Well Jesus is Jewish afterall.

Hehe
That reminds me of an old boss of mine. When exacerbated, (often by his son who was also my boss), he'd wave his arms and blurt a line of Yiddish. Then he'd look at me for a moment as if to say, "Oh yeah. You're not Jewish, so didn't understand." I wish I remembered his translation of the one saying better, but it was something about how geese pooped and yet never got any on its feathers. It took me a few days before I realized I've never seen a goose do that and yet, around city lakes and ponds there is way too much evidence on the ground that they do, but absolutely no evidence on them -- even the white geese. lol

(Did I just get others to check the south end of a north bound goose more often? lol)

Joy is part of God's nature and we are to be filled with joy.
Of course that joy spills over into humor but due to our flesh (not in Jesus' case) the humor sometimes steps over the line.

Humor? I started a thread like this awhile back. Mine went south fast. A lot of serious people here, which is cool...
......but to knock those who believe that Jesus maybe used humor?

I stand by what l said, Jesus was here for quite some time, and had a lot of time between travelling......?
It'd be silly to think He spoke only in parables, or was super serious, when telling someone their sandals were untied.

One could argue that He was too busy to joke by posting John 20:25?
......but my sandal line wouldn't have worked if l started off with it.

I firmly believe God/Jesus has a sense of humor because he created his children didn't he? Well, most of us have a wonderful sense of humor. Granted, some are better than others.

I think many of the early paintings and statues of Christ, especially in the Middle ages have given us a distorted image of Him.

God is our Father and created us to be joyful! All we need do is look at little children playing make-believe... funny kittens and puppies and other cute animals... some of the goofy mistakes we make that aren't sinful (absentmindedly putting your keys in the fridge, answering the phone when it's the doorbell, dropping your ice cream cone on the floor, a hysterically bad hair day, etc.)... there are plenty of things in life that are funny. :D

"Well, for starters, let us be sure that Jesus was not western. In fact, some of His parables wereso eastern that I think much of the West may not have entered into the rigor and humor of whatHe said." Ravi zacharias - Jesus among other Gods

Also... my son pointed out that God used sarcasm (which is funny) when He was speaking with Job.

I remember years ago that was part of a sermon and it was explained the city gates were locked
at night. But there was a small gap or gate built into city walls in which a person could just
squeeze through. He explained that was the needle and it would not have been possible
for an animal to squeeze through it. :)
I have been told that the Aramaic word for "camel" is very similar to "cable" or "heavy rope. When I learned of this, the metaphor suddenly made sense instead of seeming ridiculous.

Im glad I'm not the only one! I put my glasses in the fridge the other day. I took them
off to read some tiny print on a packet and somehow got them confused with the milk.

There is a right time to be serious with God, to cry, repent, be convicted.
Cry out in prayer etc.

But I always think of the following Psalm.
David expressed the full range of his emotions in the Psalms, but
his sorrow always turned to thankfulness and praise.

Some people I know always seem to emphasise the weeping part but they forget
the morning comes eventually. Sometimes it can feel like the night is going
to last forever, but the morning eventually comes.

We have do much to be thankful for don't we. :)

Psalm 30:1-12 NKJV
[1] I will extol You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up, And have not let my
foes rejoice over me. [2] O LORD my God, I cried out to You, And You healed
me. [3] O LORD, You brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me
alive, that I should not go down to the pit. [4] Sing praise to the LORD, you
saints of His, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.

[5] For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may
endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.
[6] Now in my prosperity
I said, "I shall never be moved." [7] LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain
stand strong; You hid Your face, and I was troubled. [8] I cried out to You, O LORD;
And to the LORD I made supplication:

[9] "What profit is there in my blood, When I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise You?
Will it declare Your truth? [10] Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me; LORD, be my helper!" [
11] You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness, [12] To the end that my glory may sing praise to You
and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

Odd question I know!

Someone raised this the other day and it got me
scratching my head for evidence (don't have head lice honest).
They had this image of God and the person of Jesus as strict,
serious, full of doom and gloom, the end is nigh etc.
I also know some Christians just like this! In fact the person
who raised the question is a bit like this they seem to think
it is a sin to laugh and Christians should not be so frivolous.

I must admit I'm the opposite, although maybe there are times
I should be more serious. I suppose I use laughter to rise above
difficult situations.

I think God must have a sense of humour as we are made in His image.
He created us in such a way that we can experience a full range of
emotions. The bible mentions the joy of the Lord and delight.

For Jesus to come out with the following verses, makes me think that he
must have had a sense of humour of sorts, even if it is just irony.

Luke 6:41 NKJV
[41] And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not
perceive the plank in your own eye?

I am not aware though of any verses which refer to Jesus laughing, (although
that's not to say he didn't). Just wondered what you thought on this. Do you
know of any? Or do you think Jesus was serious all the time?

There are several versus in the bible which refer to God laughing in a scornful way,
though this is usually connected to the enemy, wicked etc.

Psalm 37:12-14 NKJV
[12] The wicked plots against the just, And gnashes at him with his teeth.
[13] The Lord laughs at him, For He sees that his day is coming. [14] The
wicked have drawn the sword And have bent their bow, To cast down the
poor and needy, To slay those who are of upright conduct.

Maybe the English language just doesn't do justice to the word laughter.
Matthew 11:18-19
king James version(kjv)

18.)For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

19.)
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
