Titus is a short letter, from our apostle Paul written, most likely, on his journey back to Greece,
after his release from his first incarceration in Rome ...it's one of my favorite epistles, almost
seems to sing to me; comforting like good pithy poetry. On another CC forum site, someone
suggested that I open a topic tread on this letter; and on yet another CC forum site, someone
else suggested that we go thru Paul's letters to us, verse by verse (as Ariel82 started doing in
the OT books). I'm not sure that verse by verse would always be the best approach, one might
miss out on a better understanding, not always factoring in the surrounding context, but we
could experiment with different methods, sometime a single verse, sometimes more, whatever
seems to work best.

So first of all, I'd like to give you a total reading, one I've compiled directly from the Greek source
texts found in "The NT in the Original Greek, Byzantine Textform 2005," by Maurice Robinson and
William Pierpoint (they've released all rights to the public) ... and so, too, with my translations.
I mention this so that the moderators dont have to worry that any copyright rules are being abused.

"The Layman’s Companion compiled from The NT In The Original Greek,Byzantine Textform 2005,” (BT2005) by Maurice Robinson and William Pierpoint; with all differences noted (verses are asterisked) between it and Greek Critical Texts (*GCT), such as the “Greek New Testament SBL Edition,” (GNTSBL) by Michael Holmes (as reviewed against Westcott and Hort, Tisehendorf, and the Nestle-Aland Novum Testamentum)" (~Robin)In the following song of Paul to Ttus, you will notice that some of the verses are asterisked; this is simply to let the reader know that there are variations between the Byzanitine source texts (Majority Texts), and the Alexandrian (Minority Texts). My preference being the Byzantine (in almost all cases), but I have also compiled an appendix that addresses each of these differences, and as we go through this, Paul's poem, we can take a closer look at them is you want; I dearly like to hear how the spirit leads you concerning these differences. In Titus there are 17 verses with variations (some with multiple variations).

Bullinger was, I think, one of the first to notice this stuctural poetry in the NT scriptures ... (all of Paul's letters have similar structural harmony to them, by the way) ... and sometimes, like with some Hebrew scriptural structural (called parallel poetry),it's something that can be used to help one clarify, from the comparisons, the meaning of what's being said.

You will notice that the names used in my reading are a little different fom what you might be use to ... that is the original names have been restored. The inadvertent elimination of these original appellations in most translations, has "de-racinate" the NT characters, and places of location ... their ethnic heritage has been clouded, and the ambience and original peoples vanished, along with all their regional colors.
Here in addition to Greek, Aramaic, and Hebrew appellations, some Roman names are given their Latin original.


Paulos – Paul from the Greek Paulos; Saul from the Greek Saulos; from the Hebrew Shaul. Paul was born in Tarsos as Shaul.
Most Judeans of Shaul's day, living outside of Palestine had two first names, one Hebrew name, and the other Greek or Roman (Latin)

Yeshua - Jesus from the Greek iEsous; from the Hebrew Yeshua; from the Hebrew Yehoshua; from the Hebrew from Salvation, and the four Hebrew letters YHWH - since God’s name is unknowable, one writes the tetragrammation, phonetically heard as Yahweh, or descriptively as Adonai (Lord).

Anointed - Christ in English derives from the Septuagint translation of Mashiah, meaning Messiah; from the Greek christos meaning Anointed, an attribute of the Messiah. The more direct transliteration of Mashiah being Messiah, rather than Christ (an attribute of the Messiah). As a result of this misleading translation from the Hebrew Mashiah to the Greek christos, we have “Christ the Messiah,” which should be “the anointed Messiah.”


Titos – Titus from the Greek Titos; a Gentile (Gal. 2:3), and possibly a native of Crete, his name is not mentioned in Acts, even though it is thought that he is the authority to whom Luke is indebted for various portions of that book. Paul’s affectionate regard for Titus is clearly shown in 2Cor 2:13 and 8:23. The words “unto Titos, a genuine child according-to a common trust,” indicate that he was led to the truth by Paul himself. The two were companions in Antioch prior to the Council assembled at Jerusalem (Acts 15), for to this Council he accompanied Paul (Gal. 2:1). Titus is repeatedly referred to in the Corinthian epistles, to which church he was apparently sent on two occations (see 2Cor. 8:6, and chapters 2 and 7). From this epistle we learn that after Paul’s release from the Roman prison, the two journeyed together and preached in Crete (Titus 1:5; 11; 13), where Paul left him, “so-that to the things lacking you should amend.” Later, he was instructed to join Paul at Nicopolis (3:12), and likely that from there to Dalmatia or Croatia (2Tim 4:10). This epistle was one of the latest written by Paul, probable in the end of A.D. 67.

The Figure of Speech called “Heterosis” (Exchange of Accidence) – Exchange of one voice, mood, tense, person, number (nouns, adjective, pronouns), degree, or gender for another. Here in this verse, “seasons” or “kairois” is exchanged for “times” or “chronOn;” that is, a “kairos” or “season” is a certain limited portion of a larger/longer “chromos” or “time.” God has spoken to us by many portions and modes, and it is essential for us to carefully regard the times in which these words were spoken, as well as the times to which they refer, if we are to rightly divide the word of truth.

Note: “Figure of Speech” relates to the form in which the words are used. It consists in the fact that a word or words are used out of their ordinary sense, or place, or manner, for the purpose of attracting our attention to what is thus said. A Figure of speech is a designed and legitimate departure from the laws of language, in order to emphasize what is said; this particular form may not be true, or so true, to the literal meaning of the words; but it is more true to their real sense. Figures are used for the sake of emphasis, and therefore should not be ignored. Ignorance of Figures of speech has led to the grossest errors, which have been caused either from taking literally what is figurative, or from taking figuratively what is literal.

Couple additional explainations ...

1) whenever I am hestatently driven to add an English word to my lame translation,
I will, certainly, show this to you, the reader, by putting brackets around it ...

2) The Greek has various words for the definite article ("the"), but doesn't for the indefinite ("a");
however, it is my understanding that any singular noun has,
inherently included in it's make-up
the fact of an indefinite; that is when you see the above "
doulos" ... the noun - nominative, singular, mansculine "slave,"
I think it most valid to translate this as ..."a slave" (N-NSM) ... since the singular (indefinite) quality is inherient within
the word. Similarly with gemitive words, such as "theou" (N-GSM) ... noun - genitive, singular, masculine "of a God" ...
however, here, I've taken the liberty of not showing the reader the indefinite "a" since there is only One God, not an
indefinite number of gods, but the the point, here, is that the word is GENITIVE ... "OF"..."of God" ... that is, the genitive element "of" is inherent in this Greek word; therefore I show this to you, the reader, without the brackets ..."of God,"
as I do with the indefinite "a" in ..."a slave" ...

Lot's of little silly linguistic stuff ... but if we start out with some standards, it helps this to progress without subsequent confusion, and questions. Also, for purposes of consistency, only, I always read a dative word with the prefixed "unto-"
and an accusative word with the prefixed "to-" ... it aint always pretty, but a consistent method helps eventually in subsequently
determining wheather the attempted method was correct or not. That is, I may be incorrect in this, but that can only be
certainly determined, if after we "float the boat" is sinks or not!

Titus is a short letter, from our apostle Paul written, most likely, on his journey back to Greece,
after his release from his first incarceration in Rome ...it's one of my favorite epistles, almost
seems to sing to me; comforting like good pithy poetry. On another CC forum site, someone
suggested that I open a topic tread on this letter; and on yet another CC forum site, someone
else suggested that we go thru Paul's letters to us, verse by verse (as Ariel82 started doing in
the OT books). I'm not sure that verse by verse would always be the best approach, one might
miss out on a better understanding, not always factoring in the surrounding context, but we
could experiment with different methods, sometime a single verse, sometimes more, whatever
seems to work best.

So first of all, I'd like to give you a total reading, one I've compiled directly from the Greek source
texts found in "The NT in the Original Greek, Byzantine Textform 2005," by Maurice Robinson and
William Pierpoint (they've released all rights to the public) ... and so, too, with my translations.
I mention this so that the moderators dont have to worry that any copyright rules are being abused.

The Grace of God was Emerged – What We Should Be in Consequence
