Online dating, forums, social media, etc. had been a target of many people looking to solicit sex or even looking for sexual partners or perhaps, exhibitors looking for audience watching them performing sexual acts! Recently, one of the member from this forum had shared with me that she have received several messages from various men in ChristianChat to watch them performing sexual acts and I'm not sure what else this person has encountered. In order to protect her, I have decided not to reveal any further details of her identity. I believe many others out there have encountered the same situation.

I am just wondering if there is such a thing whereby the moderators would be alerted when such PM or chat conversation is being sent out to other members or even the system do be developed in such a way, whereby, it will filter out these requests and send a report to the moderators to ban the user.

I've joined this site for a month now and I have enjoyed myself very much as I can see a lot of users here are Godly people. We are all sinners but we are called to live in the Spirit of God. Should a Christian forum be a place where users should feel unsafe?

All too often when these situations arise this is what happens. The victim doesn't report it to CC staff members, rather they tell a half a dozen friends about it.

If the perpetrator is not properly reported the the staff is unable to do anything about it.

The victim who spoke to me had been feeling so scared to even come back to CC now, unfortunately. I've been speaking to her but what happened to her is rather scary for her. She's not an adult yet.

At the bottom of each mail message there is a triangle, just like the one on each post in the forums.
Ask her to come back (there's kind people here too!) and report each of them clicking that button to report each of them.
I assure you the staff do their best to protect the members from such messages, but they need to be reported

I don't know that anything can be done, but I hope something can be done to minimize such occurrences. If there was a way to do this through the Internet, I would kick those perpetrators where it hurts and tell them to back off and to get nicked.

Several times on here, women and girls pm me to tell they received an inappropriate pm from someone. I ALWAYS tell them to report it to the mods.

It's really quite a difficult and labor intensive procedure............... You have to click on a button...... then pay no attention to the post. Unless, of course you just enjoy creating drama in your life.

This, I have to say, I've seen this happen too many times. Sexual offenders do this in order to lure people in. They pretend to be females. It's very hard to trust these PMs, the best thing we can do is, yes, tell them to report to the right person. Now, some of us choose to help them in one way or another, but really, and I hate to admit, that's never going to fix the problem. Direct them to the right people, that's why there are site leaders.

Actually, now that you mentioned it, I noticed we don't have a "Report Abuse" button in the PM section (in the chatroom). I think, actually, yes I'll make this a suggestion. I've always thought it was there, but no. Some people don't even visit the forums but only go to the chatrooms. So, having a "Report" button in there, would be very helpful. There is an "ignore" button but no "report abuse".

Unfortunately, this person who spoke to me, had faced this for a very long time and has given up coming over to ChristianChat as she wants to avoid receiving these messages again. It is just very sad.... :(

I brought this up because some years ago, I implemented a Learning Management System in a university. One of the students were sexually harassed via words (timeline and messages) from within the system posted by another user that we failed to track as the user hacked into this user's account. Resulting from the incident, I looked into the configuration section of the Learning Management System to find that, I can set to filter certain words from being posted officially on the timeline or messages. This has solved the issue.

Some of the user on this forum are below 18 years old. Just imagine a young person at the age of 10, for example, receiving such messages from an adult, yes, he/she can be brave enough to report the other user to the moderator to take actions. But, hey, what happened if the person had been abused and was never helped when he/she was abused in real life, receiving such messages, unable to take the action to report the other user to the moderator? Most people would know how to make the right move but then again, how about the others who don't?

Are these problems only happening on the chat? Ive never seen anything like this happen on the forum. Ive never used the chat though. But I would suggest that if its such a serious problem, to avoid the chat all together and only visit the forum. That way they can talk in a more moderated place, and if they want to get to know someone they can on the forum, and begin talking through PM from there.

Moderating a chat room seems a bit harder to do, but they did say they have the report button. But still, moderating real time is probly no where near the same, so Id suggest that if the problem is that severe in the chat, to just stick with the forums.

I don't know if it's me but no, I have not seen a report button in chat. It would be helpful to have that, right next to the 'ignore'.

I was driving today, and heard a "bad" word spoken on the radio. Oh, oh... my life is ruined now. Honestly, give me a break.

Am I missing something? This person didn't just hear a swear word or something. They were sexually harassed.

Oh, through PMs then? Then yeah definitely report it immediately so the user can be banned.

Also, the real world is a terrible place, youre gonna have to deal with bad people saying things you dont like, that are even offensive. I would say that there is the risk online for this no matter where you go, and that everyone who uses it really needs to know this is the case. And in the case of a child, Im kinda one of those people who think that parents need to monitor their kids with these things anyway. The internet isnt really a place for a kid.

Other having a report button for the mods to be notified and take action, there isnt really a whole lot more you can do, you cant control what people do. But, if someone does get a message like that, it is their responsibility to report it so it doesnt happen again.

I have a friend in ministry, a woman, who says, "If you CAN be offended, you WILL be." I would add to that, "If you go looking for offense, you will find it.... even in the glance from a toddler."
