2 Chronicles 26:5 ►

Parallel Verses

New International Version
He sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought the LORD, God gave him success.

In our weakness there is strength in Him!

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:But the seventh day
[is] the sabbath of the LORD thy God: [in it] thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [is] within thy gates:For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus 20:8-11 (KJV)
I see the Sabbath rest as twofold.
1. (Easy one first.) Earthbound. Man cannot keep working 24/7/365. We absolutely need one day a week to rest or effort is diminished, muscles breakdown, bones weaken, the brain fogs, and our emotions overload.

It's been proven for ages that if we work the ground year after year without giving it rest, it produces less too. Same with animals. It's a built-in safeguard God instituted.

2. (The part I'm not so sure how to translate this into what we're supposed to do about it.) Godbound. It's not just resting that is required on the Sabbath. It's relationship renewal. When I was growing up, it was common for families to hop in their cars (or walk down the street) to go visit the parent's family every weekend. It wasn't like the parents didn't talk to their parents all week. They did, by phone, but come the weekend there needed to be a Sabbath meal too. It was a time to renew bonds with all generations at one table.

I think that is what God wants from us too. Sure, we talk with him all week, but more in passing. I think the other purpose of the Sabbath is supposed to give us time to reconnect with God.

Every so often we get into a huge argument about the Sabbath. Some argue that it HAS to be observed on Saturday. Others, like myself, believe the point of this law is to make sure we get a day’s rest each week. I will site this Scripture to back up my belief:

[27] And he said to them, "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath;
[28] so the Son of man is lord even of the sabbath."
Mart 2:27-28 RSV
This wasn't that argument. This was about that commandment. Why start an old argument if it wasn't brought up?

with respect, you don't know what Romans 7 is talking about.
Life is going to be a whole lot easier you on this site, if you click "reply with quotes" or at least mention who you're talking to. (Just a helpful hint from someone who has no idea which "you" you're referencing. :))

The Sabbath was made for man. And God was specific, very specific, about which day it is. I wonder why someone would try to change the day? Why would someone seek to change times and laws?
Whoops! Spoke too soon. So back to which day, eh?

OKay. I'll go with you on that the moment you can prove which day the seventh day was originally. (Hint: It doesn't come from our calendar.)

Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

2Pe 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

2Pe 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

2Pe 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

2Pe 1:5 ¶ And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

2Pe 1:6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

2Pe 1:7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

2Pe 1:8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2Pe 1:9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

2Pe 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

2Pe 1:11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

2Pe 1:12 ¶ Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth

I think this is part of the problem Blain. We are resorting to our own philosophy, and how we feel, and what our pastor thinks, etc... It does not matter what I think. It matter what YHVH thinks, and what He has told us to do.
Oh boy! Yet another person who thinks he alone gets what "YHVH thinks."

That is exactly what the adversary wants you to do. We were duped. It is time to come out of it. He tricked us all. Sunday worship, Easter, Christmas, eating pork,... rather than the Holy Days that God calls His, Leviticus 23, and we threw his dietary laws in the trash. Yes, it hurts our pride, but we were tricked. Come out of it.
Disciplemike, how long you been not duped? I feel your passion, but not all seeds scattered take root and multiply.

well, I can read what His Word says at least. I don't have to make twisted up excuses why I can do what I want. It isn't popular to go this road sister. I don't have a fan club at the moment.
And as far as your Romans 8:28, if you love God, keep His commandments (John 14:15). How much more straight forward can it be?

And the Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. (2Timothy 2:24-26).

What's your point?
Not my point:) not Peters point:) but the Holy Spirits point is everything!
2 Peter 1:7 at the end of the day, brotherly kindness, love and charity toward all should be our goal rather than wanting to come out on top in any debate. Peace
