Perhaps part of the issue is how the title of the forum is interpreted. One person is interpreting "Singles" to mean the forum is only for those who are single (and therefore the posters are available for relationships). Another (including myself) is interpreting the title to mean that the discussions are oriented toward issues singles have to deal with.

I was single until I was 43. I wonder if anything I went through might be helpful to others.

The fact is that unless the forum is specifically restricted to the unmarried, there is nothing anyone can do about who posts here. One can only hope / wish that those who post here meet ones own expectations. But life doesn't always meet ones expectations (ask any married couple:)).

It might be possible that there are one or two married people who can contribute to the wisdom of their single brothers and sisters before they make a life changing decision. I think that might be the motivation of many of the married posters.

Let's not begrudge them their desire to be supportive of their single brothers and sisters.

FWIW.
You know technically speaking, I've seen just about everyone respond to posts in the Teen and Young adult forums, including myself. So I guess we could say that's crossing a line too. Not that you're saying any one is crossing a line, it was just a thought.

Also should we not allow people who aren't Indian, Fillipino or Arab post in those forums? See what happens when we start with one?

:D I think there are more adults that post in the teens forum than there are teens! (Including WiseBeardMan, so...whatever). I personally think that is a good thing. Too many emotional, hormonal teens all together can turn sour really fast.

kind of hard for say a 13 year old to give advice to a 19 year old. and teens and kids mostly go to adults for advice.

Singles is really the only selective'ish forum minus the women only forum.

A bunch of discouraged, lonely, frustrated, (and sometimes embittered) singles can turn sour really fast, too. It helps having someone who's been there before to bolster morale.

(Ntw added, "And who's going to answer questions about how to find "the one" without asking people who've actually found "the one"?")

As I sit here crying , I'm wondering what is so wrong with me posting here when I have never done anything inappropriate? I have had a really crappy week. And what wise beard man said piut the cherry on top. It hurts. I come here for fellowship. I do go into the other forums, but I come here for fellowship sometimes. My Husband knows I'm here. It doesn't bother him. If my posts bother you put me on ignore.

I try to be kind and understanding to others. I leave CC and come back after awhile. I've even asked my Husband to join. I would never do anything to hurt my marriage. If my Husband said to me, I don't want you chatting on CC anymore I'd leave in a New York minute.

What you said hurt me. I don't care that you don't care.
Are you serious Fenner? :( Wise always says stuff like that. It's his nature. We all love you in here.

Yeah I've seen his name pop up in there, I've also responded when I think I might help. You know if any of us is reaching out or sharing a funny story with someone and not being inappropriate then it can be a positive experience for all.

If we're going to split hairs, then I guess Robo ought to create a Faith Questioning/Asexual/Autistic/Sci-Fi Nerd board. That way I'm sure to only post where I belong.

Not a bad idea though. It would keep all my crap in one place and I could just talk to myself.

*this was an attempt at self-deprecating humor if you didn't catch it*

I'm not even sure what all this stuff is all about. I'm pretty sure the Apostles would be excessively disproving of all segregation that goes on in churches and Christian groups today. :)

Don't let what he said bother you. You are an asset to this site and a tremendous resource in the Singles Forum. You always offer wise counsel and amusing and interesting anecdotes.

I guess it still comes down to how one interprets the purpose of the title. Is it declaring exclusivity of the posters, or of the common interests of the forum.

If one creates a thread for Honda automobiles, does that mean only people who own Hondas are allowed to post there, or might it indicate that those who are interested in Hondas can find common ground there?

Since there is no way to prove whether or not the posters actually own Hondas, I guess one must concede that the title declares the subject of interest, not the exclusivity of the posters.

Even if one declares a thread or forum for the exclusive use for one group or another, how can one actually enforce such a restriction?

And if the "out-of-group" posters are participating with good intentions, who knows but what they might actually have something positive to offer every once in a while.

But since there is nothing the average poster can do to enforce his/her expectations over any give thread or forum, I invite them to not let the failure of their expectations discourage them from enjoying the value of what is shared.

Just my thoughts. (FWIW ;))

the point is, this is SINGLES. and when I see someone post I expect them to be the same as me Single. no girlfriend/boyfriend, not engaged, not married.
Well, actually, Robo has given the right for anyone to post within any section of the forums, other than womens. Sometime in 2013 Robo was going to change it to not allow married and under-18 to be able to post in the Singles forum. The overwhelming majority of people spoke out against it. Enough that it caused Robo to change his mind and leave the forum as it was. So it is the actual single members of the site that pushed to allow others to post here.

Also you have a specific definition of 'single'. Others have a different take on it. For some single means 'not married', which could mean people dating are single because they are not married. Even when you join the site you are given a choice between 'single' or 'married'. There is no 'dating' or 'engaged' option. Such things have been suggested as options and Robo has rejected the idea.

Really the only reason it should be of any significance to anyone is if you were treating this section as a dating section, and not just a singles fellowship. The bulk of what is discussed here is has nothing to do with being single anyways. So it's not like non-singles are interfering with any specific subject matter that singles may not want others input on. It's mostly just people babbling and goofing off. That it's titled 'singles' is a somewhat moot point, really.
This is really the only section of the site that is so consistently about things that have nothing to do with the title of the forum. Go in the Family forum and it's almost all family related in one way or another. Same with Teens. Indian. Arab. Filipino. Bible. New Users. Music. Poetry. Health. But come to Singles and it's mostly random gibberish unrelated to even being single. So not sure what difference it even makes when this section has very little to do with being single anyways.

Yeah I was serious Zero, I let his words bother me today. I usually leave things roll off my back but I'm emotional today, for reasons I'd rather not get into. Everyone has those days. I know what he's like. I don't wish him any ill will we're all entitled to our opinion. The false advertising statement bothered me a bit because I am not putting myself up on the auction block for dates. I can understand why he's not comfortable talking to women in relationships.

As as for myself I try not to sound flirty or available of that makes sense.

You and I are friends on here as well as Facebook, same goes with Tintin, Cat Hearded and Shoryu. I hope you single men can attest that I'm not flirting or leading you guys on. If I have done that I hope someone would correct me.

I had a momentary lapse of letting things roll off my back this morning and I apologized. I feel bad that I went there.
It was immature and stupid. And to Wisebeardman I'm sorry, even though he probably has me on ignore by now. But for what it's worth I'm sorry.
