Re: PUT OFF THE "OLD MAN" AND PUT ON "THE NEW MAN": WHAT DOES THIS MEANS?

your thoughts on these statements pls
i will refrain from sharing my thoughts at the beginning for fear that my comments may divert your responses.
Means to be obedient to faith "be born again of the Spirit of GOD" and then renew the mind.

Re: PUT OFF THE "OLD MAN" AND PUT ON "THE NEW MAN": WHAT DOES THIS MEANS?

can you pls explain how this happened; i mean the old and the new
Thanks
When we are born again a spiritual exchange transpires in our spirits. God trades out the spirit of the world for His own Spirit. In the fallen sons of disobedience there is a "spirit" that is working (Eph. 2:2), but Christians are those who have received into our spirit the Spirit of Christ (Rom. 8:9). A spiritual exchange has taken place.

Yes. The old man is who we were in Adam and the new man is who we are in Christ.

Re: PUT OFF THE "OLD MAN" AND PUT ON "THE NEW MAN": WHAT DOES THIS MEANS?

The "Old Man" is the sin nature (The Law of Sin and Death). The "New Man" is the resurrection life (The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus). Romans 8:2
The Law of Sin and Death is so powerful it can't be stopped by anything except the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus. When a Believers faith is not maintained by simple faith exclusively in Christ and His First Work, the sin nature is reactivated and becomes the teacher of the heart and mind (spirit and soul). The scripture says it corrupts us with deceitful lust (Romans 7:8 ; Ephesians 4:22).

How does a Believer maintain faith exclusively in Christ and the Cross? By just believing in Jesus and what He accomplished at Calvary Cross. Romans 4:5 - Galatians 2:19-21 NKJV - 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 NKJV - Colossians 2:11-15 NKJV

Romans 6:12 says, "Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal bodies." The command would be unmeaning if the sin nature were not existing in the Christian. The sin nature dwells in a Believer, but dwells and reigns in an unbeliever.

And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed Exodus 17:11). Amalek was to dwell in the land, but not to reign in it.

The answer has always been, "If we be dead with Christ" than resurrection life is available. And that is not something we do, but enter into as a result of our simple faith in Christ.

Meant to say Finished Work, not First Work.

Man was incapable of destroying the sin nature, so he cannot in any way reactivate it!! Christ death destroyed the sin nature. and like i said mans failure cannot undo the work of the cross. Our failures are not the sin nature. Thats why the word clearly distinguish between SIN( sin nature) and SINS( our short comings).

Re: PUT OFF THE "OLD MAN" AND PUT ON "THE NEW MAN": WHAT DOES THIS MEANS?

John 3: You Must Be Born Again
1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him."3 Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."4 Nicodemus said to him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."
9 Nicodemus said to him, "How can these things be?"10 Jesus answered him, "Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony.12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things?13 No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.John 3: You Must Be Born Again

Acts 1: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

The Ascension
6 So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?"7 He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes,11 and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven."

Acts 2: The Coming of the Holy Spirit

Acts 10: Peter and Cornelius

thats what your asked to believe before getting born again or the gift of the holy spirit. etc

Re: PUT OFF THE "OLD MAN" AND PUT ON "THE NEW MAN": WHAT DOES THIS MEANS?

We know that Paul was addressing the "saints" at Ephesus and thus know that he was talking to born again believers as a point of context.

Ephesians 4 begins with Paul "beseeching" the saints to walk worthy of the calling in which they were called. He addresses and exhorts them to not be children tossed to and fro and carried with every wind of doctrine but instead grow in Christ, hence the establishment by scripture of the 5 fold ministry: Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors, and Teachers. This was given as a reminder of God's order as God has established these positions for:
1) Equipping saints for the work of the ministry
2) Edifying the body of Christ
3) Until we all come to the unity of the faith and knowledge of the Son of God and the measure of His stature of the fullness in Christ

Paul then addresses these born again believers/saints by telling them that they should no longer walk like the Gentiles (meaning that some were, thus why Paul addressed it).
How specifically? The Gentiles walk by the "futility" of their mind. Their natural understanding is darkened due to the fact that their hearts are blinded. They do not have Christ! So the warning to the born again believers is not to return to this way of understanding and walking, but to put it behind them.

Clearly stated in verse 22 is that these born again believers need to put off the ways of their former conduct which is the old man. Our former ways are corrupt by deceitful lusts as they are done without the understanding and truth in Christ. Instead of walking in this old way we are to be renewed in the spirit of our minds by (as born again believers) putting on the new man which "was" created according to God in true righteousness and holiness.

Putting off the old man and putting on the new man wasn't an exhortation for something already done (these are born again believers). Paul was warning and exhorting the born again believers at the church of Ephesus (and to us as well) to not return to the conduct and mindset of the former "old" man. Instead walk forward in conduct and understanding worthy of those who are born again. The bible speaks of denying self and dying to self daily. Each day we put off the old man and put on the new man by walking in His ways and not the ways of the world. We renew our minds by the washing of the water of the word and applying His truth to our lives. No we are not perfect and will fall from time to time. This is why as part of that new man, we can repent to the Lord when we fall short and He is good and merciful to forgive us as our Mediator and Advocate! We will undergo tests and trials. God simply wants us to choose Him and His ways by trusting on Him to guide us over the ways that seems right to us by the ways of the flesh and the world.

It's waaaay more than that. That's only the beginning, to say the least. Putting off & putting on is about a continual progressive change where christians grow & mature. We do this till we die or are changed when Jesus comes.

Christ died once and we died in Him once as well. now He is alive and we are alive in Him. so we must recon that just as Christ died once and for all, so were we in Him. And now we live (continuously) in Him. in Fact the believer's life is hid with Christ in God. Christ lives in the believers stead here and now on earth. if we constantly live with this awareness, then we will see Christ who is within shows up on the outside, as us!!!

Re: PUT OFF THE "OLD MAN" AND PUT ON "THE NEW MAN": WHAT DOES THIS MEANS?

The night I genuinely prayed for Jesus to come into my heart was when I got reborn. I know this because everything was different the next day, wooooo! :D

This would mean that Christ died for you the night you prayed for him to come into your heart; was it the day he died? Was it the day He made you a new man? we have been thought to think so but that is not the case. New birth (born again) has to do with the death of the old birth. so we are not born again when we confess Christ as our lord and savior. we were born again(begotten again) in the Resurrection of Christ from the death 2000 yrs ago! "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who according to His abundant mercy has BEGOTTEN US AGAIN(born again) unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Peter 1:3)."

It is not our acceptance of Christ as our personal Lord and Savior that produces salvation. When someone hears the good news( that Christ has already died for us and as us) and accepts it, then the Spirit of Grace comes now and seals that person, confirming His salvation! "In whom you also trusted after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation in whom also after you believed, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise(Eph 1:13)". This is known as conversion and not born gain.

Re: PUT OFF THE "OLD MAN" AND PUT ON "THE NEW MAN": WHAT DOES THIS MEANS?

What about it? Romans 8:5-13 talks about a christian who still lives according to the carnal mind( the fallen mind of Adam). i don't think you understood what i said in regards to the difference btwn SIN as a nature and sins as acts. There is a clear distinction btwn the two.

Re: PUT OFF THE "OLD MAN" AND PUT ON "THE NEW MAN": WHAT DOES THIS MEANS?

So when the Corinthian were begotten through the gospel was that day Christ died? 1 Corinthians 4:15. We have to remember of what Peter saying is that this “begotten us again” is “by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” not that he is speaking of “when” so a person can become born again the moment after trusting the gospel or after believing Christ as His Saviour.

How can we differentiate Historical belief from a heart belief? When someone’s hears and accepts the message as true that’s maybe historic but if someone believes or trusted the Gospel and Christ alone can saves him that’s heart belief.

God bless

your thoughts on these statements pls
i will refrain from sharing my thoughts at the beginning for fear that my comments may divert your responses.
It means follow the deeds and promptings of HIS SPIRIT and not the deeds and promptings of the flesh and to know the difference between what is wrought in GOD from
what is not wrought in GOD
