I have been thinking about the scripture that says that before we were born God knew us. The scriptures also say that God is the Father of spirits - of which that is part of our make-up. The essence of who we are.

What are other's thoughts on this subject? Do we originally come from the Father to begin with? How does the spirit of man come into being with conception physically?

This could be one of those things that is fuzzy in scripture and there are secret things that do belong to the Lord. It also could be that our un-renewed mind can't handle the reality of this too. I don't know - just asking the questions to see what others think. We all can learn from each other.

Well I'm not totally sure on this but I have had people say they remember things before they were born. Like being in heaven and so on. Not sure if I totally believe it but then again stranger things have happened.

A lady in church wrote a song once, I only remember a tiny bit of it:

Mommy where was I before I was born? Before I came into your tummy?
- Little Louise, you were in God's thoughts. There you've always existed,
and from the beginning He thought about your good mood and your smile.

I have heard that too. There are some that have had a "sense of God" from being a very young child and I too have had that sense. It was kind of like a hazy picture - not clear but I had a sense of God from the first time I could remember thinking within myself.

It doesn't take long for the things of this world to start to reshape our thinking and experiences.

Even though such ideas seem romantic, I do not believe they are true.

If we were preexisting our birth and/or in heaven before, it would really be some topic for the Bible. But Bible knows nothing about it.

Also notice that Jesus says - "I came from above" as a distinction between Him and other people.

Or "I am of heaven, you are of earth" etc.

There are verses in Bible about our spirit - "Body will go to the ground and spirit to God who gave it."

All put together, I think that our personality did not exist before our birth even though some part that makes us living is from God, of course.

There does seem to be a mystery behind it.

It's the part about " some part that makes us living is from God" - that seems to be the mystery part.

How is it from God?.....perhaps the bible doesn't speak about it. But I am sure there are lot's of truth in the scriptures that we have no "working knowledge" of now. This can only be revealed by the Holy Spirit to us.

I think our "personality" is developed by our experiences on earth and what kind of thinking we have in our minds. There is definitely a lot of "gray areas in our thinking"..( some pun intended for the gray matter in our brains )

Ever see the movie, The Seventh Sign? They talk about Jewish folklore regarding a place called, The Guff. It's the hall of souls where childrens' souls exist before they're (we're) born. I looked it up years ago to see if that is actual folklore but never found anything on it.

Hmmm thanks for giving me a laugh. I looked it up and found a site urban dictionary and it had a pretty funny explanation for guff. I'm not sure it is appropriate so I'll just post the link and view at your own risk. It isn't that bad but has one word not appropriate to post here.

Urban Dictionary: guff

Knowing the end from the beginning would give Him the ability to know us before we were formed.

Yes...there is a good chance He might know more then we do....lol. I think trying to figure out the Lord with our un-renewed minds is doomed to failure...;)

there's this, too -- though i think you mean further back ((in time)) . . ?

One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham, because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.
(Hebrews 7:9-10)

((also being 'in Adam' 1 Cor. 15:22, etc))

Well I'm not totally sure on this but I have had people say they remember things before they were born.
I don’t think before as source of our memory, the conscience was created people cannot remember anything . That I would consider a false lying vison as a false revelation must be coming from the father of lies

Like being in heaven and so on. Not sure if I totally believe it but then again stranger things have happened.
One thing I have been looking at is; to be born of God is to be born of God .The difference I believe is between being born of men, as sons of man, or as the same way born of the daughters of men. Both speaking of the creation of the flesh not born of God .But our first birth. While Son of God speaks to those led by the Spirit of Christ that dwells in them, our second spiritual birth .

I think it is summed up in the verse below.

John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Since Christ is the lamb of God slain from the foundation of the world . We are informed He wrote the names of those who would be born again of God in a book of life in respect to the Spirit of life that will be opened as one of the books. To be compared to another book of all who would be born of the flesh. When the names are compared all who were not found in the Lambs book of the life will not be awoken to new spirit life on the last day . it is I belive one of those mysteries of faith that brings the peace of God which surpasses all human understanding, giving us the faith to believe God working in the person in the end of the matter.

I'm not sure if lightworkers are true. They are the light of the world according to Matthew 5:14. They are the servants of God in revelation 7:3 who will receive seals on their foreheads. They were witnesses during creation. They were previous angels who volunteered to become humans to serve God's purposes. Their memories were removed. Maybe those who have clouded memories of creation are lightworkers. Some people here on CC might have angel souls.

Or it could just be their imagination? Why so dramatic?

If we were with the Father to begin with then we are fallen just like the angels that rebelled against Him.

I always wondered what the over-all purpose of this place was from Gods Perspective.

There are things I read in the scripture that make me nervous about whose side I'm on. How I was born physically and what influenced me before Christ.

And then how I was born spiritually after coming to Christ, or while coming to Christ.

I think I'm leaning more toward posthuman and HisHolly where God Knew us before we were created.

Based upon...

a) A few scriptures
b) The definitions of a few words
c) The example of Jesus
d) The sons of God singing when the creation was cast down
e) The ability of God to purge our memories
f) The testing of Job and how Satan approached God with his accusation of why Job worshipped God which in my view contains a bigger picture

My view is as follows and pay attention to
a) NOT SAYING I STAND ON THIS DOGMATICALLY
b) JUST A POSSIBILITY

It is possible that every spirit in God's kingdom have been allowed to, and or forced to experience the flesh and fallen kingdom of Satan so as to CHOOSE between God's kingdom and or Satan's kingdom....from Adam's first day to the last human born it is all about choice...EVEN JESUS HAD TO DISROBE HIMSELF OF GLORY, TAKE FLESH AND CHOOSE...

This is a summation as time this morning prevents me from laying out the scripture, word studies etc...

Joshua said..
choose you this day...God or the false god's.....
