Wait, what? Someone made a racist comment?

I have missed so much...

Someone posted earlier about calling a spade a spade thus the poking fun at the "racist" comment.

For those who are unaware a spade can be:

A) a type of shovel

B) suit in a deck of cards

C) derogatory term for someone of African descent

spade (n.1)
"tool for digging," Old English spadu "spade," from Proto-Germanic *spadan (source also of Old Frisian spada "a spade," Middle Dutch spade "a sword," Old Saxon spado, Middle Low German spade, German Spaten), from PIE *spe-dh-, from root *spe- (2) "long, flat piece of wood" (source also of Greek spathe "wooden blade, paddle," Old English spon "chip of wood, splinter," Old Norse spann "shingle, chip;" see spoon (n.)).

"A spade differs from a two-handed shovel chiefly in the form and thickness of the blade" [Century Dictionary]. To call a spade a spade "use blunt language, call things by right names" (1540s) translates a Greek proverb (known to Lucian), ten skaphen skaphen legein "to call a bowl a bowl," but Erasmus mistook Greek skaphe "trough, bowl" for a derivative of the stem of skaptein "to dig," and the mistake has stuck [see OED].

I saw this earlier on Facebook. The whole situation to me is sad. Sure, Santa isn't real. But the way the pastor was doing this was not okay. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but there were 3-7-year-olds there and yelling and screaming around the mall at the parents, it's sad.

Calm down people. Jesus is still Lord amen even if people write fiction stories to entertain us. Don't worry so much you will get an ulcer!

why should you, indeed? i had hoped it might die with my parent's generation. :(
Everyone seems to hope that. But believe me, I have heard plenty of derogatory words to describe my ancestry in my lifetime; and some were from young people. This was just one I didn't know about.

I did not know that it was used as a derogatory term for blacks.

I knew. Around 1940's to the 1960's (but I'm not that old). I was brought up in a racist's household, & I rarely heard that term. I even double-checked Wikipedia before using the phrase. The one-word is racist, but the phrase was around long before a few used it that way in the early 20th century.

Let that be a lesson to all in this thread..... one wisecracks about racism, another's believing it & spouting off, & the whole thread goes haywire.

NASB Pro 18:
20With the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach will be satisfied; He will be satisfied with the product of his lips. 21Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

NLT 20Wise words satisfy like a good meal;the right words bring satisfaction.21The tongue can bring death or life;those who love to talk will reap the consequences.

You'll reap what you sow.

You really don't have a sense of humor do you? I was joking around to lighten the mood. You were the one who brought in the racist comment which it was uncalled for because you have no idea what other people are thinking and it's wrong to assume anything
I DO have a sense of humor..... it's just not that dark, that's all.

You totally misunderstood my intentions. Nevertheless you are forgiven.:)

I don't think anyone wants to help you with your stick. You're on your own pal.

As a child I loved Santa and I put cookies and milk out for him, and carrots for the reindeer with a note for him. I repeatedly asked my parents to leave the front door unlocked so Santa would not burn himself as our fire place was going. I was really concerned about he and the reindeer having a safe journey.

I remember on Christmas Eve I kept getting up excitedly and asking: "Has Santa been here yet?!" On the last time I came out of my room to ask again, and I saw all the adults filling the stockings. Then, the next morning one of the small toys (that was already sitting around the house) had ended up in one of the stockings. I was angry and disgusted with my parents and my cousins' parents. I was about 7 years old and was upset at being lied to, and no longer trusted my parents for lying to me, and for stealing one of my toys to put in another's stocking.

As a child I remember children sharing stories about how they figured out Santa wasn't real. It was like we were getting together and talking about when and how we managed to see through some sort of conspiracy theory.

There might be some people who want to get violent with anyone who proclaims the tooth fairy doesn't exist... better be careful! At the very least though, the tooth fairy doesn't distract attention away from the birth of the Savior. :p

I agree the whole Santa idea steals the spotlight away from the true meaning of Christmas. It's called Christmas for a reason and not santamas. Parents work hard to give their children a good Christmas and then tell them Santa gave them all these gifts. Weird to me. But telling kids the true historical version of St Nicholas and giving them the lesson of giving and helping the needy all the while comparing it to God's teaching's of helping the needy and giving gifts as an act of kindness and love. So instead of your Christmas becoming a big I cant wait for santa to magically bring gifts. It can be celebrated for the gift God gave us in the form of a baby and the first gifts given by the wise men. That's where the tradition should come in and St Nicholas was a great example of giving and helping the poor.

All in all the preacher was in the wrong and there is a place and a time to do and say certain things. As Jesus was many times careful not to straight out and say I am God. We see Jesus act very wisely with his words in the presence of different people. Preach from church the true meaning of Christmas and leave it at that. If people want to add stuff well they have been told. If they fail to give glory to God in the time of Christmas then they have failed to spread the message of the birth, savior and soon ruler over new Heaven and new earth. AMEN Christmas is the best time of year to spread the word of God. Our federal government celebrates the day, our country celebrates the day, its still called Christmas and our calender is still set up with term B.C. Before Christ and A.D. Anno Domini which translated to ( in the year of our Lord). How beautiful the year of our lord! We live as of now Christ lives hallelujah!

What bothers me about the video.. Hes a pastor and not the parent. He has no right to take the parenting out of the hands of the parents. What he did was what gives us Christians a bad name
