The fact that they chose to get out of the truck and engage these people leads to believe that they did exactly what Witnesses said they did... they went there looking for trouble and they found it
I agree with you. They went looking for trouble and found it.

Now then, I hope judges are consistent with THIS punishment and with THIS crime when they sentence "other people" for not just threatening, but injuring and/or killing people. That's all I ask.

I challenge anyone to cite an example of anyone getting 20 years over heresay. Maybe the Court transcript become available. I figure most likely police found the shotgun in the truck

I have a tendency to believe we have not heard the last of this case.

There's no question about this being awful.
It's not up for debate.

But there is some reality to the fact that the media only attacks racism when it's going one particular direction.

I think all of the conservatives on CC, had we been there, would have all jumped in to stop this harassment.
We all would have jumped in to do what's right.
All we would ask is that there be EQUITY.
When there is persecution of Christians, or white males, or black republicans, or purple monkeys, or ANY group the far-left dislikes... we just ask that there be equity.

Equity is in the bible.
God says he HATES IT when there is not equity.

We should all strive for equity in our thinking, and in our discernment.

Hopefully this case will set a precedent. If you racially harassed or threatened people, no matter what your skin color, you go to jail

I've been called everything in the dictionary over the years by both whites and blacks.

I think we need to retain a distinction between "speech we don't like" and "actual threats."

These people were jailed for making actual threats... not for being generally unpleasant.

Regulating speech any more than is absolutely necessary ends up being a danger to everyone.

The problem becomes that an overly sensitive mindset seems to be defining what harassment is...

It doesn't appear to be so obvious to everyone...including people in this forum. Lol. They seem to be ok with voting complete and utter depraved people like Maxine, Nancy, Harry, and Al into positions over and over again and giving them authority over them over and over again. Lol. Stupid is as stupid does. Lol

If this case sets a precedent, Katy bar the door. Even the ones who "think" they have the lock on compassion and define harassment and threats will find themselves in bondage or jail to the very thing they set up for everyone else.

If they could only see this.

I doubt it. People think its fun to raise a mean dog until it mauls one of your own. Oh...but he's so sweet to me they say. He licks my face and wags his tail when he sees me. Lol.

I feel pretty fortunate to live where I do....there is still a modicum of common sense and decency. The stupidity is creeping in here too tho. What gives me the most hope is that my son and his friends seem to lean on the conservative side.....and that's gonna be a big deal 8 to 10 years from now. Ironically about the time Trump is leaving his second term. :)

Actually they did break the law which is why they're in prison. They threatened children with a gun
They broke the law but the punishment does not fit the crime.

Call em terrorists, so the next time a cracker drives by a black party and yells something that hurts peoples sensibilities we can fry em for terrorists acts, when in actuality they were just stupid and exercising their freedom of speech.
Freedom of speech is one thing, insulting people is a completely different thing and should be punished. And threatening kids (no matter what they are, white, black, christian, muslim etc.) with a shotgun is disgusting and should be considered terrorism and punished with life in prison.
It's good the couple got jail. They have a lot of time to really repent for what they did and understand that life is too short to hate.

Freedom of speech is one thing, and insulting people... uhh... should be meaningless if you even consider yourself a grownup.

Threatening to PHYSICALLY HARM someone is not the same as "insulting" them.
Threatening physical harm = bad.
Insulting someone = GET OVER IT UNLESS YOU'RE 7.

GuessWho,
if insulting or offending someone was a crime, I could call the police right now, and say your post offended me, and you'd go to jail.
I'd just say, "She offended me."
Bam... jail for you.
Does that seem fair to you?

Do you want jail time for voicing you OPINION?
Well... everyone's opinion is an OFFENSE to SOMEONE.

It should NEVER be a crime just to say something that "insults" someone, or "offends" someone.
Words like "insult" and "offend" are vague, nebulous terms that can mean ANYTHING.
When verbal insults, and verbal offenses become a crime, then whatever political regime happens to be in power WILL just redefine those vague words in a way to jail all their opposition.

In logic, a phrase like "verbal offense" would be considered a "conditional premise"... meaning... it's undefined and can mean virtually anything.
You want to JAIL people for terms that can mean virtually anything?

Making it a crime to say something "offensive" is the single worst idea humans have ever had.

You must be forgetting the verses in the Bible that talk about the GOSPEL being an offense.
The day "offensive language" is a crime, we're all going to jail.

"Insult"/"insulting" is very relative though. Some people are insulted when a Christian prays in public over their food . Heck, even some Christians are offended when another Christian prays in public as they recite Matthew 6:5 ["And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full."]. People love to be insulted/offended... It's easier to play the victim than it is to look at something from a different point of view.

I think freedom of speech ought to cover "insult" speech, but not threatening speech. There is a fine line. "You're mom is fat" is different than "I'm going to kill your mom." They shouldn't be treated the same way.

However, I agree with you in that I'm glad this couple got jail time. I hope they are truly sorry for what they did and that the victims can heal and not be psychologically affected.

I never said that insulting was the same as threatening.

Also, I don't believe that insulting is the same as offending. Offending is vague, I agree. Insulting is when you say bad words to a person.

But I do believe that both (insult and threatening) should be punished, but not with the same punishment, of course.

So, you wrote a long comment almost in vain because you argue about offense and I am talking about insults.

Wsblind is in disbelief and said that maybe the couple didn't threaten the children but was merely "exercising their freedom of speech" by yelling insults at those children. Please, we are all grownup christians here and we know that insulting someone is not the same as freedom of speech.

At least that's what I understood from wsblind's comment.

There is a misunderstanding here. English is not my first language so please, have patience.

I don't talk about getting insulted because someone prays in public. I am talking about people who yell insults at other people. If I would call you a piece of something you would know I am insulting you and I would know I am insulting you because I would get banned.

I hope now is clearer what I meant to say.
