Leaving God? Is it possible?

Israel abandoned God big time

No sooner had Gideon died than the Israelites again prostituted themselves to the Baals.
Judges 8:33

James is writing to believers who are doing the same thing

You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
James 4:4

Some have in fact already turned away to follow Satan.
1 Tim 5:15

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
1 Tim 4:1

Seems like it is very easy to abandon faith and go another way.

Yes, but Jesus will bring them back.
1 Thessalonians 5:23b-24;
"May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it".

And yet Jesus Himself said " The Holy Spirit will be in you forever" John 14:16

Is Jesus now a liar? Did Jesus actually accomplish anything with His work on the cross and resurrection. Does the blood of Jesus have any worth?

If we keep mixing up the Covenants - we will end up in a complete mess and it creates a works-based belief system that denies Christ and His work on the cross and resurrection.

Saul is not indicative of a New Covenant believer that is sealed in Christ for all eternity because of what Christ has done.

Lord send us more missionaries to help the unbelieving Christians to see You and all that You have done on the cross and in the resurrection.
Covenant mashing reduces the magnitude of both Covenants. There is a clear delineation of the two as God intended, yet some will ignore it to apply their own misguided bais.

Philippians 1:6 (NASB)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

Notice that it is "He who began a good work - will be the very same one to perfect that work until the day of Christ Jesus."

We don't save ourselves nor is death our savior as if we hold out until we die. Christ alone is our Savior.

A drowning man does not need 5 lessons on how to swim and if he holds out until he reaches the shore - then we will be saved.

No, a thousand times NO - He needs a Savior.

Why do we have so many "unbelieving Christians"?

It's no wonder the Lord Jesus said - "When I come back will I find faith on the earth."
Yes, finishing a work means there is a period of transition and maturity, one should expect some failures and mistakes during that transition. Salvation is the beginning of that transition, not the end.
Imagine if God were to just pull out the rug while that transition or growth were occurring, and He said "eh, you didn't try hard enough and you're not good enough, your works didn't live up to my standards, so I lied, my promise doesn't really apply to you."

The promises are conditional on the believer remaining in the faith. He will not drag you into heaven kicking and screaming against it.
