If someone asked you "why is Jesus God?", What would you answer?
Well i would ask them if they believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and if they said yes then i would say because the Bible reveals that Jesus is God..

Then if that sparked their curiosity they would ask me where? And then i would proceed to show them :)

Because He is a part of the god-head, the Trinity.

I would say in Colossians 1 it says all the fullness of the Father is in the Son- therefore that would include Deity. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God and was with God." (John 1:1). And if you read a little further it says "and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us- that's Jesus.

If someone asked you "why is Jesus God?", What would you answer?
I'm thrilled to participate in responding to this question. I'm learning to shorten my answers so please put me forth just a little space.

Jesus is God because:

My answer

Because the inspired record we have been given by God declares that Jesus created all things visible and invisible; and that inspired word states that He was The Word with God in the very beginning and that He was also God. And that same inspired word declares that all power in heaven and earth is given to Him.

Support for my answer

Joh 1:1-3
(1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
(2) The same was in the beginning with God.
(3) All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Joh 17:3-5
(3) And this is life eternal, that they might know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
(4) I have glorified you on the earth: I have finished the work which you gave me to do.
(5) And now, O Father, glorify you me with your own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Col 1:16-17
(16) For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
(17) And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

1Ti 3:16
(16) And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Mat 28:18
(18) And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me [of my Father (Mat 11:27)] in heaven and in earth.

Rev 1:7-8
(7) Behold, he comes with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
(8) I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

why Jesus is the Most High is just another trinity debate. my question has always been why is it so important and whats the benefit of believing this doctrine?

For the sake of righteousness. Only God could meet the standard of perfect righteousness that God demands.

Which speaks to how woefully inadequate fallen man has become.

Don't forget John 10:30 (“I and the Father are one.”)
and also dont forget

john 17:21 "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that THEY ALSO MAY BE ONE IN US: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me."

john 17:3 "
Now this is eternal life, that they may know YOU, the only true God, AND Jesus Christ, whom You have sent."

john 14:20 "At that day ye shall know that I AM IN MY FATHER, and YE IN ME, and I IN YOU."

Jesus is one with God, His followers are One with Him thats what the holy spirit is meant to accomplish, but this doesnt make us God, it makes us one with God, by Being one with Jesus who is one with God..

I suppose it's because only God himself can live a sinless life and die for us.
Thats why he came in the flesh.

Or am I way off the mark

John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Amen! Because God's Word says that Jesus is God.

It begs the question of if Jesus is not God is Jesus able to save. Surely the word of God presents Jesus as God and Romans 10:9-10 tell us that we beilieve in the Jesus of the bible to be saved.

One in unity, not one in the same. other wise how would this Cripture be possible? Hebrews 9:14 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh,14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

Christ offers Himself to the Father through the eternal Spirit, other wise no propitiation for sin. Jesus could not offer Himself to Himself through Himself. Who would Jesus
mediate to, if they were one in the same.

could the Son not save when that authority is given to Him by the Father?
