First and foremost, I convince myself they couldn't possibly be attracted to me. Then, I replay every relationship I've ever had and remind myself that I am horrible at relationships and not equipped for the emotional nor physical complications they entail. Next, I try to make myself scarce or just leave before any really awkward exchanges happen.

What's attractive? Attractiveness is in the eye of the beholder.
But if I meet people (that I don't already know) and in my estimation they fit the rules of what most people find "attractive" I do temper my greeting a bit. I greet them as I would greet anybody else, but in a slightly more lukewarm manner. It is reasonable to expect them to be accustomed to people flirting with them because they fit the societal standards for what is attractive, so I don't want them to mistake my overt friendliness for flirting.
Lose your train of thought
Lose all ability to think
Convince yourself they'd never be attracted to you
- All those tree. ... and possibly blush, depending on what the situation is.

the day after, I got an access card to the guym
...and was introduced to a guy named Tobias

Usually I try to figure out their personality in a conversation and if it doesn't line up with what I like then they aren't as attractive to me and I forget about them. I've avoided a lot of awkward situations just by observing and picking the right battles Lol.
