I would think 'political correctness' is a strong delusion (but perhaps not the delusion) - but then i think every age has it's own version of political correctness.

That's true, in fact I saw the other day where Joel Osteen said, and I quote:

If God has chosen to reveal Himself to Muslims a different way, it's not my place to judge that.

I wonder if he's even born again
I know little to nothing about Osteen but there are people who wonder about him I'm glad its not our place to judge people. I'm afraid I'd condemn the wrong people.

Most Christians probably have some false beliefs which they would repent of if they had the right knowledge, so I don't see why we should target individuals.

This topic has been on the mind and heart of my wife and I lately. It is because we have been prompted to pray about this more and more. Not just for ourselves, but others.

It is simply our desire to not be deceived and we know that only God can prevent this. It is our desire that no one would fall prey to any deception and be caught off guard when it comes to God's plan for his people.

The question as to what is the lie that is warned about in 2 Thessalonians 2 has come up a lot lately.

Through prayer and meditating on this, we discovered that the answer is located right in that same chapter.

I have heard a lot of theories about what the lie is about. I just wanted to present this for others to study and discuss.

I have opened this topic as a place to discuss 2 Thessalonians 2. What is written there? What does it say not to be misled about?

Please try to refrain from debate about what you believe and stick to what is written in those scriptures. I hope that this will come to others as a blessing that might give understanding on this topic.

Grace and peace be to all of you through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Greetings Markup1972,

Below is the scripture in question:

"The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the working of Satan, with every kind of power, sign, and false wonder, and with every wicked deception directed against those who are perishing, because they refused the love of the truth that would have saved them. For this reason, God will send them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie, in order that judgment will come upon all who have disbelieved the truth and delighted in wickedness."

First of all, you and your wife being in Christ, can rest easy. For Paul's reference is to the man of lawlessness, which is another designation for the antichrist. You can rest easy because the gathering of the church will have taken place prior to the events of the antichrist and the false prophet.

When the man of lawlessness, who will be empowered by that beast who comes up out of the Abyss, is revealed in the world, as the first part of the scripture states, he will be accompanied by satanic miracles, signs and wonders. The first of these will be when one of the heads of the dragon, which is that man of lawlessness who will suffer a fatal would but survives it. In addition, he will also have the false prophet performing miracles, signs and wonders on behalf of the beast who receives the fatal wound. These will all be done to deceive the inhabitants of the world by supporting the beasts claim of being God. For the inhabitants on the earth during that time who do not love the truth, God will be sending them a strong delusion to believe "the lie" which will be the antichrist's claim of being God, as well as those miracles, signs and wonders that will be performed as part of the deception. These miracles, signs and wonders that the false prophet will perform are mentioned in the followings scriptures:

"And the second beast (false prophet) performed great signs to cause even fire from heaven to come down to earth in the presence of the people. Because of the signs it was given to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived those who dwell on the earth, telling them to make an image to the beast that had been wounded by the sword and yet had lived." - Rev.13:13-14

"But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed signs on his behalf, by which he deceived those who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. Both of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

In conclusion, the miracles, signs and wonders that the false prophet will perform in order to deceive the inhabitants of the earth into believing the claim of the first beast as being God, is what the lie will be. It is to those during that time whom God will send the strong delusion to so that they will believe it. The church will not be on the earth during the time when the false prophet performs those miracles, signs and wonders, but will have already been changed, caught up and taken back to the Father's house prior to the time period of God's wrath.

I hope that this calms any fears that you might have regarding this issue.

In regard to God sending a strong delusion to beleive the lie I would ask does he perform that in Christians .If so what would be the difference between one who has faith and one who has not? The disciples believed the lie many times.Did he send them a strong delusion to keep believing the lie or did he act differently with His chosen ones?
Did Paul addressed this as pertaining to a falling away from the faith?

2 Thessalonians 2:1Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,[SUP] 2 [/SUP]That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.[SUP] 3 [/SUP]Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first,

That means the pre trib rapture is God judging His House first to deal with the falling away from the faith first before He comes back with the pre raptured saints to deal with Satan & the world's armies at the end of the great tribulation.
Then we go to that iniquity which has that mind set of new ageism where one opens themselves up to receiving spirits after a sign as it was at work even in Paul's day.

2 Thessalonians 2:[SUP]6 [/SUP]And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.[SUP]7 [/SUP]For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

Think about it. If a believer falls away from the faith by believing the lie that you can receive the Holy Spirit if not for the first time apart from salvation then again with a sign of tongues, then the restraining will be taken out of the way ( the Holy Spirit will still be in them but not restraining any more ) and God will permit the strong delusion to occur in that way by receiving another spirit and a tongue that NEVER comes with interpretation because it is not the real God's gift of tongues.

Try to understand the problem with tongue speakers insisting that tongues can be used as a prayer language by the Holy Spirit.. which He cannot use God's gift of tongues for personal use when He cannot speak for Himself as John 16:13 says in ALL Bibles because He can only speak what He hears.

This practice does not stop there with tongues. They will continue on saying that you can receive the Holy Spirit again and again and again in the bring "slain in the Spirit" and being "drunk in the Spirit" and the "holy laughter" movement and the Toronto's Blessings and the "Pensacola Outpouring" and "Ernest Angeley's Healing Crusades" and others...

So when does it stop? How can tongue speakers say.. those are not of God at all when tongue speakers ignore that is how they got that kind of tongue by which never comes with interpretation by receiving the Holy Spirit apart from their salvation.. or so they had assume when they had believed that lie?

So that is why Paul reminded believers when they had received the sanctification of the Spirit and the belief of the truth at the calling of the gospel of Jesus Christ so that by citing that tradition, it exposes the lie for what it is.

2 Thessalonians 2:[SUP]13 [/SUP]But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:[SUP] 14 [/SUP]Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.[SUP]15 [/SUP]Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

The obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ is to be a vessel unto honor in His House.

The damnation awaiting believers that have gone astray ( unless they repent ) is to be left behind and be received later on after the great tribulation as vessels unto dishonor in His House for not departing from that iniquity.

Paul went on to the third chapter talking about those whom have gone astray.. not having faith, being wicked and unreasonable men that follow not after the tradition taught of us that we are commanded by the Lord as touching us to help us to withdraw from them. but not to treat them as the enemy, but to admonish them still as brothers. 2 Thessalonians 3:1-7,14-15

And they are still brothers even for having fallen away from the faith as the foundation can never be removed, but his first inheritance.. he can lose his place at the Supper table of the King as giving it up for wild living like the prodigal son.

So those whom have gone astray... best not be found out at the market like the foolish virgins seeking to be filled still when the prudent ones know they are filled and thus ready & waiting for the Bridegroom when He comes.

Those whom have gone astray should lean on Jesus Christ as their Good shepherd at that throne of grace for help to depart from chasing after seducing spirits, return to their first love and stay there, shun vain & profane babbling and pray normally so as to give the Father's thanks in Jesus's name for answered prayers which is the will of God for all of us.

1 Thessalonians 5:[SUP]17 [/SUP]Pray without ceasing.[SUP]18 [/SUP]In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Anyway.. that is the strong delusion which comes for believing the lie that a believer can receive the Holy Spirit again apart from salvation, if not for the first time apart from salvation after a sign of tongues with no interpretation. The lie goes on from there in receiving the Holy Spirit again and again after other signs too.

I would have to greatly disagree with you on that Denadii. We are not the masters of our own destiny. God is the One who in-births faith to every believer. He is the One who has mercy upon whom he will have mercy and compassion upon whom He will have compassion. No man comes to the Son unless the Father draws him.

"Yet before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad, in order that God’s plan of election might stand, not by works but by Him who calls, she was told, “The older will serve the younger.” So it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”

Furthermore, those whom God selected to be saved, their names were written in the book of life before the world began:

"And those who dwell on the earth whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world will be astonished when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet will be."

The scripture above demonstrates that before the world began, names were written in the book of life and names were not written in the book of life.

And don't forget the fact that the scripture says that "God sends them a strong delusion" so that they would believe the lie.

Why does it matter if there is a strong delusion? After all, God causes everything... he causes sin, he causes murder, he causes rape according to Calvinism. God causes everything and this strong delusion... well, God causes it too. Why care about these questions when God's will, will happen. I don't see the point of your question from a Calvinistic stand point. What will happen will happen... why care? Those that will perish are evil people right? God figured he will skip over them and leave them for dead, set for eternal damnation right? That's the Calvinist way of thought. I'm curious... did you think you can do anything about it?

To answer the question, I used to think Islam might have been it.

This answer borders on blasphemy. You need to read your bible. Start at Genesis 1 And throw away that grass you're smoking

Those who do not make God First with the tenth of their income are under a curse. That person(s) has initiated judicial blindness (God sees to it that your spiritual insight gets worse because of your heart hardiness when you reject truth) (Romans 11:7-8).

(According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear unto this day (refers to a condition that will not correct itself, but will actually grow worse). Romans 11:8

For if God spared not the natural branches (Israel),
take heed lest He also spare not thee. Romans 11:21

For if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you either. Romans 11:21 NIV

What test is used in the bible to see if you are in faith?
Answer...Luke 16:9-13

Christians are tested with the least in the Kingdom of God which is money.
Considering what Jesus has said here (Luke 16:9-13 NKJV), I think it would be difficult to overstate the significance of this down to earth, practical teaching, that applies to everyone. If a person cannot be trusted with money, and in any capacity, Jesus plainly says, he cannot be trusted with Salvation, i.e., "true riches." In view of the seriousness of what is being said, we would do well to heed carefully.

In these passages (Luke 16:9-13), Jesus is saying that irrespective of how loudly and how often we profess our Godliness, if it does not show up in our practical, every day living, and especially in the matters of money, and our responsibility toward others, our profession is vain. This statement is plain and clear, if we are unfaithful in these things. "Who will commit to our trust the true riches?"

You keep your curses! I for one do not accept them. I am the blessed. I am the Healed, and I am a son of God! Look here!
[h=1]Romans 8 (CJB)[/h] 8 Therefore, there is no longer any condemnation awaiting those who are in union with the Messiah Yeshua. [SUP]2 [/SUP]Why? Because the Torah of the Spirit, which produces this life in union with Messiah Yeshua, has set me free from the “Torah” of sin and death.

You want curses? They're yours not mine!

The irony..... that some folks in this thread are already deluded talking about what teachings would delude the church.
Scripture speaks that few will be saved & the religious "majority" believes they all are.

It would seem that what the "majority" believes would be the first set of teachings to put under the microscope.

It would also seem that the first group to blow a fuse over that would be the ones to watch for their "fruits"

I will guarantee that you would find a hateful bunch with arrogance issues, self-righteousness, working together like a pack of wolves.

Now why would I say such terrible things to describe these?

Simple..... if a person is deluded, it's a fact that The Holy Spirit is done with them, so they won't have any "real" christian traits at all.

What you would find is a religious "moral" system where morals are at the forefront, just like the Mormons or the JW's.

While they would parrot constantly "God is love", their true teachings will always call Him a "God of grace" who would never let a single rebellious christian perish for living by a false doctrine.

This doctrine would have to be "easy" for the masses to follow after it..... after all, we live in an instant & lazy society.

All real doctrines of commitment will be taken out. The only way they can do that is to change the "meanings" of those doctrines to make them easy & leave them in.

Did Paul addressed this as pertaining to a falling away from the faith?
As always whose faith of men as the "things of men" or "of God as the things belonging to Him" ?

Yes from the falling away from and therefore the faith of Christ, the faith of God in unbelief, us falling from him and not him our living hope falling from us.

If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:If we believe not(no faith) , yet he abideth faithful: he “cannot” deny himself. 2Ti 2:12

When the new creation does fall from faith he does not send us a strong delusion to believe the lie but rather by grace calls us back knowing he cannot deny his own self who has already finished the work of giving us a new eternal spirit and new heart. But rather than sending a strong delusion we get what we don’t deserve a call to repentance disciplining those he has loved by giving his Spirit life in jeopardy of his own Spirit

Because we are new creatures he does not send of a strong delusion to believe the lie even though it was influenced by Satan the antichrist whose followers are described as anti Christ’s (plural) . Many today are still waiting for the anti-christ to be revealed regardless of what the Bible does reveal . They would be sent a strong delusion

Good example of the principle or methodology of antichrist (singular) and the antichrists (many) under the influence of Satan is show with Peter. Peter did not receive the delusion but rather a lesson on how to deny oneself.. giving God the increase

Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not "the things that be of God", but those that "be of men".Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Mat 16:22
