Veganism does not necessarily entail anything beyond abstaining from any and all animal products and/or by products in one's diet. The obvious is meat but extends to eggs, milk, cheese, honey, gelatin, etc. A vegan could wear a leather jacket, though. They are not eating it, after all. The associated philosophy of veganism includes the diet and also extends beyond it to oppose the use of animals for any purpose. Even meat eaters are opposed to cruelty to animals. Businesses that operate using ethical and humane means of growing and killing their livestock thrive because meat-eating people do care about such things. Maybe not all, but enough to sustain enterprises that offer such products.
Sorry, but this couldn't be further from the truth. My definition is taken directly from the Vegan Society webpage. You seem to be confusing veganism with a plant-based diet. How is wearing leather vegan? Much of our leather goods come from India. Buying leather directly supports violence against animals, which is definitively not vegan. There is no such thing as humane or cruelty-free meat. That makes meat eaters feel better about their choices. I dare you to watch a video on how "grass fed, free range beef" is slaughtered. Not exactly humane.

This is how cows are exploited in a country where they are supposed to be revered.

what were the hippies back in the 60s?
That's a bit too much of a broad generalization for me to tackle. They were certainly all about peace and love, compassion and non-violence, but they were simply a counter-culture movement. There was no definitive mission statement that was all-encompassing to the 'hippies'. It simply existed as many other sub and counter cultures do, like punk or goth or emo these days. They have their own culture, fashion, music etc... Veganism would be more equatable to a political part than anything, but even that might miss the mark somewhat.

Distinctions are sometimes made between several categories of veganism. Dietary vegans (or strict vegetarians) refrain from consuming animal products, not only meat but also eggs, dairy products and other animal-derived substances. The term ethical vegan is often applied to those who not only follow a vegan diet but extend the philosophy into other areas of their lives, and oppose the use of animals for any purpose. Vegans originally abstained from meat and dairy, and then eggs. Also, there are humane ways to slaughter animals. I know death is not pretty, but God did give animals for food following the flood, which you mentioned previously.

You know....GOD referenced the smell of beef roasting when offered as a sweet smelling savor.......and then fed the priests by what had been cooked.....imagine that.......nothing like a beef steak or center cut chops or a turkey breast smoked on the grill......

@dcontroversal, I don't know why you think posting pictures of meat contributes anything to an intelligent discussion on the moral implications of a vegan lifestyle, and how it relates to a Christian perspective. All you do is give Christians a bad image by belittling the beliefs of others in order to feel good about yourself.

WWJD, brother? Why don't you take the rest of this holy day to meditate on that, and come back tomorrow with some intelligent points for why you feel the need support the continued torture and exploitation of animals for your own carnal pleasure. I'm a patient person, and would love to hear your thoughts.
