Hey you people in Mexico!

Why would you want to live in the US in the first place?? Attitude towards Mexicans aint gonna get any better. Come to New Zealand! Our country was born out of immigrants with barely two coins to rub together. We love hard workers. Over here in elementary and highschools we all learn our native indigenous language as well as Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese and Japanese. And we love other cultures as well as our own. And you'd be shocked that when you walk down the road here strangers smile and wave and say hello to you :D We love immigrants and we look after refugees as well. We're strict with illegals as well but we're really kind about it and give you a work visa form instead of a kick up the bum.
Im marrying a Canadian next year, you know where we gonna live? NEW ZEALAND! If my fiance could walk on water for 5000km he'd be running, cos he thinks we're an improvement lol. Hes only gutted about losing hockey. hehehehe

Again, why would you go to the US?
I can completely respect your pride in New Zealand, Melody, as I would love to visit NZ myself someday (along with a slew of other wonderful countries) but I am guessing that another reason why Mexicans want to come here is simple proximity as well--we're a bit closer than you are :) and easier to get to.

I've found the discussion very interesting in these threads and wanted to state that I find myself agreeing with many things I'm reading here--mainly, that Mexican people are wonderful, but if they want to stay here permanently with full rights, they must do so legally.

My grandparents were fruit farmers all their lives and often hired immigrants to work in their fields. (I want to ask my Grandpa if it was mainly to save money or if they couldn't find anyone else to do the work; I also want to ask him about whether or not they were legal or illegal immigrants and what the requirements were, if any). Unfortunately, it also instilled a prejudice in them, as they had some dark-skinned farm workers who stole from them at different points over the years.

I am adopted from another country, and my parents went through great trouble and expense to bring me here. Up until the time I became a citizen at the age of 5, I was considered a "legal alien", and my mother had to file paperwork every week as to my location and so forth.

I definitely believe in immigration, even though my story is a bit different. But, I also believe it needs to be regulated and that the people who want to come here need to follow and cooperate with the laws.

(Actually... this should be held true for everyone, of course--all of us are subject to obeying the laws, as God tells us to subject ourselves to our governing authorities and to pray for our leaders.)

Well, I've lived in Mexico for 3 months down in Compeche back when I was 16. My parents had a Mexican foreign exchange student, and as a repayment, his family flew me down there to stay with them for the 3 months.

My personal account of it was this: Everyone was very nice to me. I honestly believe I was the only American many of them had ever seen. It was down on the southern end of Mexico, so it wasn't exactly a border state. I spoke NO spanish whatsoever, but even when other Mexicans could not speak English either, we all communicated in other ways, and EVERYONE was nice to me. The ONLY time I ever had a bad experience was during the world cup at the time. USA had just beaten Mexico, and a few of the guys I was with didn't like me yelling USA! USA! the whole time lol. Needless to say, I had to leave a bit early from the party to escape from getting beaten up by a lot of angry Mexicans! Either way, they were all nice to me later haha.

Also, the girls all loved me, being a foreigner and all. This was my first experience traveling outside of the United States, and well... I think it stuck with me. The hospitality was amazing down there, and everyone was beyond nice. I did play a LOT of soccer down there with all the other guys, and it was my first time really playing it like that. They literally played soccer every single day, so I became quite good at it when I came back up to the states. It was pretty interesting, actually.

Anyways, long story short, they were very nice. No one was racist against me that I knew of (I didn't speak Spanish, but I couldn't read any negativity from anyone), and so I have always had a respect for TRUE Mexicans ever since.

The only latinos I do NOT have respect for are the American born ones who wave Mexican flags and pretend like USA is the worst thing in the world and they should dump on this country, even though they have never been to Mexico in their lives. Their family might have been from there at one point, but they sure weren't, and it gave me no respect for them to claim USA was so bad while Mexico was so good simply out of their little rebellion. They are the ones that started the gangs up too. Real Mexicans that came from Mexico did NOT ever act like that. That is a strictly American Latino thing.

One thing I do have to say though is this: I read in the news a story about how it was the Mexican Indepedence day, and a school in California chose to celebrate it. A bunch of the latino kids wore mexican flag shirts and they all sang the Mexican national anthem. A few caucasian kids were AMERICAN flag shirts and sang the american national anthem in unison and the Mexican kids threatened to beat them up. The caucasian kids got suspended for the incident, which caused a national uproar and the principle I believe got fired. There was by far something wrong with kids wearing AMERICAN flags t-shirts in their own country, even if it was the mexican national holiday. It is fine to respect your heritage, but you should respect the country you are now living in as well. Once you move here, you are American, and the US should be your first country of choice over any others for that reason.

As far as illegals go... I do think they should apply the right way first. I do know that it isn't easy to get citizenship like it used to in the 1920's or something, but it is still possible. All you really need is a degree. I understand you can make more money here over Mexico, but Americans can move to the Netherlands and make more money there as well in certain jobs. We can't just pick up and move there without going through the proper channels either. The same goes in Canada if you want to go with a proximity thing. We have to follow the rules of other countries, and so Mexicans have to do the same with ours. Apply legally to become a US citizen, get your green card, and you will find that you will make a LOT more money here as a citizen than you ever would have as an illegal. If you want to go with the "smart" business move excuse, then you should be smart yourself and triple your income potential by becoming a legal citizen.

I do not think taxpayers should pay for illegals to get free medical care and free education while the illegal families do not pay into the taxes as well. If illegals are here, then they should try to apply for citizenship and pay taxes. To not do so is clearly wrong, and you should be deported for trying to fraud the system by tax evasion.

Also... Phoenix is the murder capital of the nation right now just to let you guys know. That's where the illegals go, and they turn to a life of crime. Not all do, but enough do to make Phoenix a bad place to live from what it used to be. That is why Arizona made up their new laws. If you never would have ruined things for yourselves, you never would have gotten these new laws out of politicians. It is that simple.

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Jer 32:27 Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

I do believe that God can heal anything. But this has me thinking "Why did we do this to ourselves again...?"

With the way this nation is, I'm not so sure about the "humbling" and "turning from their wicked ways" part will happen.

So for myself all I can do is pray and grow in my faith (not sure this will protect the whole country, but nothing is impossible for God :)).

Consumed,
People have been saying the u.s. will be this and that for years now. It's all just wishful thinking on their part. Everyone is just watching and waiting for us to fail so they can point and say SEEE we were right! Especially people from other countries. They would just love to see us fail.

Illegal's? We are told that we must uphold the laws of the land. So what do we do when the law of the land goes against the law of God?

I have little understanding of the boarder problems between Mexico and the US. But comments here raise the question of our devotion to a command of Christ. Love your brother as you love yourself. These words came forth out of the mouth of our Lord and saviour, God manifested in flesh upon this world.

I ask the question.

What thoughts and emotions went through you as you responded above and below.

Peter

Christ lights my path, I need to be sure that I watch where I walk.

i dont hate anyone....but i really do not like racism.....now i dont have a problem w/anyone wanting to come into our country to get work and have a life here if they get their green card and have the proper paper work to work and live here......as a recipient of welfare in the past....i have seen w/my own eyes illegals getting help from the government because they came over and just gave birth to a baby here....for that child qualified them for everything and honestly it mad me angry.....i have known illegals being paid under the tables at restaurants and such....it was wrong.......they worked very hard and made a good living for them and their family....i personally had a friend that was that way and no i said nothing....she was receiving welfare and yet her husband was getting paid under the table so she did not report it.....its things liike this that should not be allowed to happen but it does.....

if anyone from any country wants to be here then do so the right way and do so legally.....if they cant do so and get busted for being here fraudulently i say deport them....for its taking from the people here that really need it and have a right to it.......

This is a lie, plain and simple. Our debt is sky high, but our GNP is SO HIGH compared to the rest of the world (we are a HUGE country, 300 million people, compared to australia for instance which only has 30 million), that our debt to income ratio is still far below almost every other country in the world. We will not be a 3rd world country even if our debt continues the way it is going.

Also, if the US economy fails, people fail to realize that the entire world will fall into an economic collapse, not just us. The world economy is based on the US dollar right now, and the EU isn't exactly doing amazing right now either. Countries like Britian are close to being bankrupt, and look at Iceland. They literally went completely broke.

If the US economy ever failed, the world all follows suit. We are too big of a player in the world economy to collapse without there being severe repurcussions for EVERYONE else. The ones that want the US to fail are just ignorant and short sighted with world economics.

In a past life, I was an economics major... (before I chose English/Electrical Engineering, and before I joined the US Navy). The US will be fine, and if we aren't, then the world gets screwed too.

If you don't remember... during the great depression... the entire world fell into one, not just us.

I know why people move ilegally, it is because sometimes legally is impossible (really).

An example, is a story that I saw, of a UK person (it is not even a latino), that was refused entry on the US.

Reason: The immigration claimed that he was lieing when he said that he had a Ph.d, because he was...

blind.

Yes, the person, a UK citizen was denied entry in the US, because was blind. After a while he tried again, and found out that he was put in a list of permanently banned people, for "lieing" to the immigration.

I am from Brazil, and I plan to move to Canada myself (not because I want to get money on Canada, like actually most immigrants do, but it is because I dislike Brazil, I want some other country nationality, and I will renounce my Brazilian citizenship), and to move to any state that is not Quebec, you need to have a degree in some really specific areas, like mining technology, and some other wierd stuff, or be a refugee, but refugees are only people that live in countries officially in civil war (I live in a place with murder rate high as Iraq, I got guns pointed at me, I saw firefights from my bedroom, and yet, I am NOT a refugee...). So, several laws make impossible to immigrate, thus people take the illegal way, in hope at least, that they won't die in their own country from violence, or from some other problem (famine, diseases, etc...)

Come on up to God's country Speeder;)....We welcome everyone who wants to be a CANADIAN CITIZEN. same rules....do it the right way.
You'll love it here. We still have a tree or two left!

Just a question. If people from Mexico are so eager to get out of Mexico, how come there's so much Mexico flag waving and if we Americans don't like it we're racist and please don't get me wrong. I was an immigrant I came from Africa, the correct way. I learned English and learned the laws of the land. Why is it so hard for others to do the same?
Also the idea of singing the national anthem in Spanish infuriated me. USATODAY.com - Spanish 'Banner' draws protest Is that wrong of me? Am I the only one who thinks if you want to be an American citizen you should speak in English.

Yeah I agree. You should learn to speak English if you're not an American citizen who doesn't know the English language. Plus it will be harder for the person if he or she doesn't learn English. As far as your own personal wishes at home or among your personal friends and family, you have the right to speak whatever your native language is.

The bible does say that we are to obey our leaders and the laws of the land. A true Christian does not hate anybody because if one cannot love their neighbor who they can see, then they do not love God who they cannot see. The bible does make it clear that whatever laws are passed from the Government, we are to obey them

Ok, don't go making up fake statistics just to prove your point, no matter how valid it may be. Phoenix is NOT the murder capital of the nation, nor is it anywhere near that. According to the FBI, New Orleans is #1, with a rate of 63.6 murders per 100,000 people. Phoenix comes in at #31 with a rate of 10.5. The city ranks even lower for overall violent crime.
