This thread is dedicated to lifting up the "least" of the gifts; but sometimes the least can be great***I will share the benefits of speaking in tongues from 40 years of experience***I have been involved in all faiths***my first Church was Billy Graham's church in Western Springs, Illinois***He was pastor of that Church in 1943, but I actually attended it in 1975 when I was first saved***PURPOSE----My purpose is not to engender strife and arguments about tongues, so if you don't like, believe, or practice tongues this is not for you; but if you are Spirit Filled and can speak in tongues I want to encourage you with what I have learned***My first benefit I would like to share is the healing that comes from speaking in tongues***as a new Christian I was messed up from drugs***I tried to be like George Harrison and take 800 acid trips; my girlfriend's sister took 400 acid trips***I only got to 200 but it did have a negative affect on my life and thinking***my pastor and I would pray in tongues for up to 5 hours a day***this sounds extreme but it brought healing along with God's Word and the love of the small congregation...
***Benefits of Praying in Tongues/A Fuller Prayer Life ***Praying in Tongues can fill help out your prayer life ***Their are days I do not pray in Tongues---rather in English because I feel the Lord has laid some requests upon my heart and sometimes I will pray much about these requests and put in the time needed for these requests***Other times I do not have this directions upon my heart, but rather a push in my spirit to pray in tongues***While praying in tongues I will get many benefits from this----drawing closer to the Lord---receiving knowledge in the Word---receiving direction from the Lord---and also getting built up in the Lord***I will also at times receive knowledge of what to pray for in English---sometimes things that are important in which I have forgot, and sometimes knew understanding of what and how to pray...Grace and Peace

how is the angel language prayer different than the common language prayer? if you have two sick kids, one set of parents pray in the angel language, the other set of parents pray in their common language, how is the prayer accepted differently by the Lord?

Prayer can change depending on how it is targeted. For example, do you pray a generic prayer for everyone with cancer, or do you pray a specific prayer for a specific person who has cancer? Too, there is power in the spoken word, which is why prayers are most often advised to be spoken. The question is, if you are praying for a specific person, there may be things going on with them that you do not know about. So how can you speak to the things you don't know about? The Holy Spirit knows, so allowing the Holy Spirit to speak thru us allows us to speak to the mysteries we know nothing about.

The thought came to me about the faith of the one praying in their own natural language. I wouldn't want someone to lay hands on me and pray that a sickness is the will of God and I must learn the lessons of being sick. :)

The one praying in Spirit always prays the perfect will of God. We may not know what that is unless revealed. And I didn't say presupposed. Revealed!

Amen and that is why the gift of tongues is a lovely and powerful gift to us. We are trusting Him again to do and not us to do. I love that!! The Lord always wants us to trust Him above ourselves. When I first began learning about this gift., I also wondered why God would decide give us this prayer language to use and not just tell me instead how to pray in English?

Well, in just the same way He tells us to follow Him by faith believing He will come to our rescue. We speak in tongues by faith believing it is the Holy Spirit who comes to our rescue and edifies and strengthens our whole person and those who we pray for by grace through faith. It is He who works in us to will and to do of His good pleasure. The gift of tongues is for us to do just that and enter in.

It's putting our faith and trust in Him and not us and our words. It's the same pattern of living by grace through faith. It's another gift He gives - praying and singing in tongues. It's stepping away from the natural of our lives and learning the daily discipline of entering into the realm of the Spirit. We are actually allowing our daily human behavior to be transformed and helped as we use the gift as we go about our day.

We work and pray in tongues., sing in tongues. We can drive the car and pray and sing in tongues. As we get more familiar with and used to doing this it becomes part of our daily habit instead of worry and fear we are entering purposefully into prayer in the Holy Spirit.

I have not read this thread in a long time so if this was already said I apologize. When we pray in tongues we are edifying our whole body., soul and spirit man. Whenever I pray or sing in tongues there is always peace and a settled heart and mind.

didnt Yeshua teach that the Most High knew our heart before we ask it? He never mentioned we need a specific prayer language to get the prayer to go through.

im pretty sure every word Yeshua spoke was in the spirit, as well as James, leader of the 1st church of Jerusalem, as well as John, the greatest prophet, and it was always in their common language.

Jesus said that the things He did (and more) we will do. Who will do? WE will do. Yeshua wants our partnership, that was His deal with Adam ... I'll walk with you talk with you lend you an ear and give you advice, but what YOU say Adam, that's what goes. It's the same for us. God knows everything, but wants us to participate, so He gives us a means by which to intercede upon things that are unknown to us.

When Adam and Eve were created, and as man's numbers grew, he had a single spiritual language - it was one of the few things man took with him after the fall. And it lasted up until Babel. Prophecy says that when Christ restores all that was lost on earth, one of the things that will be restored is that pure singular spiritual language. I believe that what we know as tongues is an ability to tap into that future restored language, now, thru Christ's victory in heaven and the Holy Spirit's intercession. And in that sense, it's really our native language. At that time English, german, et all will be the tongues.

Whose will is it that a person speaks, prays and sings in tongues?
Most who do vocalize in tongues are running on self-will and not by God's will.
Those on self-will 'claim' it. Those on God's-will are too humbled to claim it for they know it is not them who vocalizes.

1. Did Jesus give the Lord s Prayer in *prayer language* or in plain simple everyday speech which even a child could understand (Q)

2. Did Jesus ever pray in so-called *prayer language or were His prayers in plain everyday language and very brief (Q)

So does this statement shown below even apply, or should you be following His example (Q)

Jesus said that the things He did (and more) we will do.

It's hard to learn anything when you always feel the need to be the expert.
Great quotation. I watch this way too often in someone I love. I hurt for this person: it stymies growth, making it slow and so delayed. But I have my own faults of which I am unaware.

I was born into a tongues-talking church organization, not one that publicly used the idea often -- not even weekly -- except during their summer camp meetings. Further, the odd behavior I've seen on the Internet was very limited. Regardless, I was never comfortable with it.

When the local pastor excommunicated me, and I gladly walked away, I also walked away from their idea of tongues. As a result, the unfortunate thing was that I also avoided any study of the H Spirit. However, I am glad I saw this thread tonight, because I finally starting studying the H Spirit (not tongues) last night and studied all night instead of sleeping. Wow. It has been thrilling.

Over my years away from the old organization (since December of 1998), I have been disheartened by the disregard, disrespect, and minimalizing of the H Spirit I have seen and read. This is a real head-shaker, a wonder. He is not a toy; He will not be treated as a toy: but it seems a lot of people do not realize this.

While in that church, I witnessed examples of people doing fake tongues. I also saw the spread of teenagers faking sign language, calling this tongues. Saw a few interesting dances; saw a lot of eyes darting here and there apparently, to make sure they were being seen. A few claimed they could speak in tongues at any time, anywhere, upon their own desire. Their were a few who admitted that they believed their speech had stumbled, and that was all their "tongues" were. And there were a lot of people who were confused and disheartened.

So as I continue my study of the H Spirit, I want my heart to be open to Truth, not to my fears, misgivings, or resentment of the past.

One of the first things I saw again, as I studied last night, was that unlike what many believe today, the giving of the H Spirit did not start with Acts 2. People who think this have not read much of their Bibles. The H Spirit is not about tongues; He is so much more than just that.

We have no record of Jesus ever speaking in tongues.

We do have a record of Jesus saying we will do even more than He did.

Of course he spoke in a language. All people who speak do.

Amen. I think a lot of what is going on with pentasmatic churches and people are exactly what prompted Paul to write 1 Cor 14. Paul was very clear - 1. there are different kinds of tongues 2. there's a proper time and place for each tongue, and time and place are very important 3. he hoped we'd all speak in tongues and 4. he'd rather we didn't speak in tongues than do it incorrectly.

I am not knocking anyone who speaks or prays or sings in Tongues. However, I've only witnessed speaking in tongues one time. That was when I was a child about 5 years old. It was a frightening event for me.

I personally see no reason for it if there isn't an interpreter there to explain. Just my own opinion. I see no benefit but then that's just me.

so the Lord knows what we need, yet even when we Love Him, love our fellow man, and do our best to follow what His Son taught us, the Almighty is going to withhold giving what we need because we dont speak the prayer language?

Doing anything like babbling, or convulsing in any way shape or form, or whatever related activities these people engage in, is Wrong. Its not in the bible.

There is a reason you do not see the apostles nor Christ do that. Because it is a vain imagination of people. Bad teachers perpetuating more of their bad doctrine.

Their wayward students just spread the lies to those gullible enough to listen .

No different than with rapture or any number of false teachings.

People have been taught how Not to read the bible. Many Christians sadly have been mislead. They have literally replaced the bible with really bad commentary .

I would answer but you're looking for arguments not answers. Bless you and Merry Christmas!
