The Old Covenant didn't pass away completely until the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD. Even though the New Covenant was established upon the Cross and Jesus ascension.

Passover is a memorial of salvation from the plague of the first born. It was established AFTER Moses lead God's people out of Egypt.

All the feasts point to Jesus. However that is a totally different topic and just distracts from the questions at hand.

However it's easier for some to try and redirect conversation then answer the simple questions:

Why did God establish the Sabbath?

How does He want us to "keep the Sabbath holy" in this age as followers of Jesus?

Can we keep the Sabbath EVERY day?

Can we keep every day Holy and dedicated to God?

Are we God's priests and our bodies His Holy tabernacles, or we just empty wells without water?

there is no Scripture that says N. T. Christ followers are to keep the Sabbath. can't quote what is not there.

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's commandment to wear tzitzit is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to mix different types of fabric.

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

yet i never find anyone who says believers go to hell for wearing poly/cotton blend t-shirts, nor for failing to have tassels on their clothes. ((nevermind that this was given to Israel, and those who dwelt with them as proselytes, not to all mankind))

is that the 'falling away' ?

not one jot, not one tittle -- but there is a Way

Men evolve many arguments to evade the commandments of God
because the carnal mind is hostile to God, and is not subject to His law! (Romans 8:7).

When men reject the commandments of God, that they may hold to their traditions
(see Mark 7:6-9), they must devise arguments to justify their rebellion.

One of the arguments is that God’s commandments
did not exist until the children of Israel reached Mt. Sinai.

-Adam was created and living when sunset came that sixth
day of creation week—when God rested from His work.
Adam knew which was the seventh day, he was with God on that day.

-Jesus called Abel “righteous”(Matthew 23:35), so Abel kept the Sabbath.
and “all thy commandments are righteousness” (Psalm 119:172).

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth,
and having on the breastplate of righteousness;Ephesians 6:14

For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation
upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing,
and was clad with zeal as a cloak. Isaiah 59:17

-Enoch “walked with God,” God keep the Sabbath,so Enoch must have kept the Sabbath
—and he was “translated” less than a hundred years before Noah.

They knew which day was the same seventh day all through this time.
Adam lived 243 years with Methuselah, and until Lamech was
56 years of age. These men knew which day was the seventh day Sabbath.
Methuselah lived 600 years with Noah, and Lamech lived with Noah 595 years.

-Noah certainly learned from them, and others, which was the same seventh day.
he also knew Gods calander, to be able to record when the flood events happened.
And Noah kept it, because Noah was a preacher of righteousness (2 Peter 2:5)

-Shem was also righteous, and he lived until Abraham was 150 years old.
Noah died only about two years before Abraham was born.
No, time was not lost down to the time of Abraham

Abraham kept God’s commandments 430 years before
his descendants reached Sinai.

“Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge,
MY COMMANDMENTS, MY STATUTES, AND MY LAWS” (Genesis 26:5).
God is speaking. He is explaining [why] He made the great promises to Abraham.

-Abraham kept God’s Sabbath!

It was Abraham's faith in the Promise Seed spoken of in Genesis 3 that saved him....not the keeping of the Sabbath.

Idolatry is a sin. Yet many Jewish folks seem to worship "Lady Sabbat" (see the Jewish articles i posted earlier) perhaps it's just figurative language?

Why did God establish the Sabbath?
“[T]he [ETERNAL] hath given you the Sabbath.” Nowhere in all God’s Word
can you find any statement that “The Eternal hath given you Sunday.”

“For by him [Christ] were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth,
visible andinvisible …. And he is the head of the body, the church …”(Colossians 1:16, 18).

The Sabbath was made by Jesus Christ for man, and He said plainly that
He is Lord also of the Sabbath! It was made for mankind, not just for the
jews but[ all flesh] even animals.

On the seventh day He MADE THE SABBATH! But the Sabbath was made, not by work,
but by rest. What He ended on the seventh day was the work of creation—that which was
created by work! On the seventh day He rested! He created the Sabbath by resting.

Was He so fatigued He was forced to stop and rest?
Positively not, for God “fainteth not, neither is weary”! (Isaiah 40:28).

Yet, this was a real rest, because in Exodus 31:17 it is written: “…
in six days the Lord [Christ] made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested,
and was refreshed.” Since He was “refreshed” by this rest, it was a real rest.

Yet He was not tired or weary! Why did He rest? To put His divine presence in that day!
He made the Sabbath day by resting, whereas He had made all other things by working!

Notice further! Also He “blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it”!
What does “sanctified” mean? Look in your dictionary.

It means “set apart, for holy use or purpose.” He set apart this day
from other days—set it apart for holy use—for a day of physical
rest, in which His people may assemble and worship God!

Therefore what God did—and God did it by Christ—
was to make future TIME holy!

No man has power to make anything holy. God alone is holy—or whatever God has
made holy! No group or organization of men has authority to make future time holy!

Gods presence is Holy

“Moses! Moses!” called God, “… put off thy shoes from off thy feet,
for the place whereon thou standest is HOLY GROUND” (Exodus 3:2-5).

The ground a mile away was not holy. Why did it make any difference whether Moses
took off his shoes—or where? Here is why! The ground where he then stood was holy .
He was required, by God, to treat holy ground with a respect he did not treat other ground.

And why? Well, what made that particular bit of ground holy?
God’s very presence was in that ground! God is holy !
God’s presence in that bush made the ground around it holy!

In the very same manner, God’s presence is in His Sabbath.
He rested on that first Sabbath to put His presence in that day!

This made it holy time! Four thousand years later, when this same “Logos,” or “Word,”
was made flesh—when He came as Jesus Christ in the human flesh—
He was still putting His presence in that same weekly recurring Sabbath—

He went into the synagogues as His custom was!

Who made the week? How did we come about to be 7 days A week. anyone?

wow TREMENDOUS logical leap you just took!!
also known as a "non-sequitur"

did Abel also wear tzitzit and keep Passover? was he circumcised and did he tithe to Levi?

i have read of a righteousness that does not come through works. must not be the one you're thinking of.

God's presence is the Holy spirit living in the hearts of His people making our bodies Holy tabernacle.....thus we should worship God every day and keep our lives set apart and dedicated unto God, praying without ceasing.

God created the Sabbath so men might rest from their labors as He rested from His.

Do you agree or disagree?

"And on the seventh day God rested from all His works"

"
Behold, I will do a new thing;
now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?
"

"
if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new
"

which day is it that He creates me, a new creature?

"God again designated a certain day as 'Today'"

"each should be fully persuaded in their own mind"

i do not believe we should be judging anyone either because they observe sabbath according to Moses or because they do not. all we are doing is attempting to destroy one another's faith.

we might try we might try lifting Christ up, as the brazen serpent was, instead of quibbling over words and endlessly arguing over law. pretty sure there happen to be NT scriptures about that. :)

. . so what exactly has He done so that it is possible we may be counted righteous apart from works of the Law, on the basis of belief? if not one jot or tittle of the Sinai covenant is removed how exactly are we made clean without the ashes of a red heifer?

Not "in the Promised Seed" but in the One who gave that promise -- the LORD God Almighty. That is what justified Abraham, who believed GOD (Elohim) and it was counted to him for righteousness. There is no evidence that Abraham was a Sabbatarian. That is pure conjecture.

Sadly, this forum seems full of these very people...
Thankfully not a quorum though!
Well I am on the 4th page and am seeing that it might be useless to have argument with a man who does not see or understand even a LITTLE of the spirit of the words. If he can only see Gods word humanly, then that's the only way he can see it. Argument will accomplish nothing in that case.

I had hoped the thread would maybe go in the direction of the spirit of the rest of the commandments and even what the spirit of some of the ceremonial laws is. So I'm sad too.

But...I see some who sort of waver in and out of seeing the spirit. I think the thread may strengthen them to lay aside looking at the word humanly and to move toward more and longer periods of walking in the Spirit. So while I am disappointed for myself, I am happy and hopeful for them. :)

Many of modern day Sabbath practices are man-made and not God ordained. That is why people claim we can't keep the Sabbath EVERY day. Some of the same people say praying without ceasing is impossible. However most honest people will admit that God commands we do that also.
Yes, modern day traditions regarding God's Holy Sabbath are truly man made, as it was for the Mainstream Preachers of Christ's time.. But it is Jesus, not man, who claims His Holy Sabbath is Sanctified, set apart from the other 6 days. To reject this Biblical reality would be a man made decision, not from God. One is very hard pressed to prove with Scriptures the "change" or elimination of this Commandment Jesus created for men. Given the warning about deception, I'm not sure why a person would want too.

There are truly scores of sermons and books written to support the religious doctrine of the "change" or "elimination" of this Commandment Jesus created for man.

Ecc. 12:10 The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.11 The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD ( Jesus) thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

Now if we can just determine what God meant by "work" we should be all set.
