Ill wait for you to fit in Islam with the freemasonry connection, Rockefeller, prince Charles, and the new Pharisees.
Im a newbie..still studying. :)

I could tie in Alister Crowley and Rick Warren, and Warren to a Protestant movement to
Sharia Law. I can tie in the Jesuits back to the CFR and the CFR back to Islam. I did not
want to change the focus of this thread but rather intended only to show that there is a
larger picture here, all tied in to Catholicism and Freemasonry. This might be a topic for
another thread. Knowing the dangers, the response is still the same -- call them out of
false systems and show the salt and light of the Gospel of Jesus.

Yes they are all tied to each other here are some points linking them together

1) Both the Papacy and Islam are church-state powers who arose after pagan Rome fell which fits into Daniel 2 The Iron & Clay

2) Both hold Mary in high regard

3) Both pray with beads

4) Muslim women and catholic nuns dress the same

5) Both use the same symbols as shown above

6) Both persecute Christians who do not hold the same teachings. It is impossible to witness about Christ in Muslim countries. The Papacy persecuted many Christians during the dark ages .

There would be many other similarities as well. But to get back to the question "Who is the king of the north"

Daniel 11:45
(45) And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

The part highlighted in red Islam have fulfilled and at the moment they can be the only ones who can fulfill this.

Zone I would say that happens before the millennium because its talking about the false prophet and the persecution of christians which doesnt happen while yeshua rules. On the lake of fire part though the judgement doesnt come till chapter 20 after the millennium. So its clear from that AND by the context/wording in the passage you quoted that its talking about the consequence of taking the mark not an actual chronological event.

The Church of the Transfiguration is a Franciscan church located on Mount Tabor in Israel.
It is traditionally believed to be the site where the Transfiguration of Christ took place, an
event in the Gospels in which Jesus is transfigured upon an unnamed mountain and
speaks with Moses and Elijah
.

It was built on the ruins of an ancient (4th–6th century) Byzantine church and a 12th
century church of the Crusader Kingdom period. There is a Greek Orthodox church
located on Mount Tabor as well, dedicated to the same purpose.

The Transfiguration of Jesus is an event reported by the Synoptic Gospels in which Jesus
is transfigured upon a mountain (Matthew 17:1–9, Mark 9:2–8, Luke 9:28–36). Jesus
becomes radiant, speaks with Moses and Elijah, and is called "Son" by God. The
transfiguration put Jesus above Moses and Elijah, the two preeminent figures of Judaism.

Several mountains have been identified as the site of the Transfiguration, for example
the tallest mountain in Israel, Mount Hermon. Mount Tabor is closer to the center of
Jesus's activities and therefore the Bishop Cyril of Jerusalem wrote in the year 348 that
he preferred Mount Tabor to Mount Hermon. Thus Mount Tabor was accepted as the site
of the transfiguration of Christ.

look at it again:

when does this stuff happen?
before the Second Advent or at the end of the millennium?

Revelation 13
11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. 12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. 13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, 14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. 15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. (KJV)

Revelation 14
9 And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.”

12 Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus. (ESV)

~

because EVERYONE who takes that mark goes into the lake of fire.

so: all of this either happens before the Second Advent and everybody gets thrown into the lake of fire at that time, at The Judgment - or you have EVERYBODY except Christians who DID NOT take the mark going through a literal 1,000 years WITH THE MARK, only to be thrown in the lake of fire at the end of it.
the answer is in a simple, prayerful look at what is the period called a thousand years.
exactly what DOES Rev 20 say, and what does it NOT say.

look at it again:

the answer is in a simple, prayerful look at what is the period called a thousand years.
exactly what DOES Rev 20 say, and what does it NOT say.

I have read it, and there is nowhere in that passage that states people are thrown into the lake of fire at that time, just that they are warned it will happen if they receive the mark.

I believe Revelation 20 says this:

1Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. 2And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, 3and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while.

First I believe it says satan will be chained, bound, thrown, shut up, and sealed. I believe this happens after Yeshuas return which happened in chapter 19. I believe that this takes place for a thousand years. I believe that when the thousand years have ended, satan will be released for a short time.

4Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.

I believe after Satan is bound, when Yeshua returns those who were dead in Him, and the martyrs, and the ones who didnt worship the beast, and the ones to whom authority was given to judge, and the ones who are blessed and holy, and the ones who wont go to hell (second death) and to those who are priests of God and Christ, (in other words all believers throughout the ages) will be resurrected/raptured to meet Yeshua and come down to earth with Him to reign with Him for the thousand years over the world. I believe that at this point no non-believers who have died will be resurrected.

7And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison 8and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea.

I believe when God releases satan (for in my opinion to show the earth that even with a holy atmosphere, holy lifestyle, holy government etc etc that people still deny Him, not because of their environment or for any other reason apart from they want to be God over their own lives. But this is just my opinion.) that he will go out to all the nations who are populated with those who did not die with the army at armageddon but who have been being ruled over by Yeshua and all the saints to deceive them and to gather them for battle against Yeshua and His children.

9And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city,

I believe satan will surround Jerusalem in a final attempt at getting rid of Yeshua and His people,

but fire came down from heaven and consumed them,

BUT will be consumed by God and defeated.

10and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Then I believe Satan is thrown into the lake of fire where he will never rise again but suffer torment for eternity with the antichrist and the false prophet.

11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Then I believe the second resurrection takes place and all non-believers who have died will come back to life in spiritual bodies, and the world (believers and non believers) will be judged. The holy will be found worthy and will then enjoy rev 21-22 and the unholy people who have rejected Yeshua will be found guilty and will be sent to the lake of fire for eternity.

Thats what I believe rev 20 says and id be interested in what you believe it says too zone :)

hey Lad...this is a very good post.
we can actually talk about it now.

I believe that this takes place for a thousand years. I believe that when the thousand years have ended, satan will be released for a short time.

ok.
it does "say" that.
but john is seeing visions. he is having realities revealed to him through symbolic imagery.
this book is not like historical narratives and chronologies.

just because Chapter 20 in the physical book of Revelation chronologically follows Chapter 19 does not mean we are meant to follow a linear timeline accordingly.

Revelation 19 STOPS the action for moment, like your new TV electronics player can put LIVE ACTION on PAUSE.

the scene is PAUSED at the Second Advent, in chapter 19.

then we could say, using the same (LAME, sorry) analogy that there is breaking news, or some interruption of the broadcast, which is paused at the action in 19.

now in 20 we are seeing SOMETHING ELSE.

its still part of the story, but is a detail.

KJV is faithful to retain the one word that gives us our FIRST CLUE that we have a scene change in 20: AND

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years

so, with the action on earth PAUSED, we have a different detail breaking in: the words And I saw
are indicative of the language of the VISION.

the AND is a sort of polysyndeton. it is connecting 19 to 20 but BY SAYING SOMETHING IN ADDITION TO WHAT IS EXPRESSED.
http://grammar.about.com/od/pq/g/polysyndterm.htm

so what does this mean so far?

First I believe it says satan will be chained, bound, thrown, shut up, and sealed. I believe this happens after Yeshuas return which happened in chapter 19. I believe that this takes place for a thousand years. I believe that when the thousand years have ended, satan will be released for a short time.

it just means so far, that we can stop for a moment, and ponder whether we are REQUIRED to read chapter 20 as a linear chronological account of eschatological events, or whether it may be something else. if we feel free enough to look at 20 as a separate vision altogether from the scenes we have been viewing previously, maybe it looks like something different.

which it is. it is actually a scene IN HEAVEN, which encompasses the entire Messianic Period, Redemptive History from the First to the Second Advents.

unless you believe in soul sleep, that's where you are going when your flesh body dies: to the Heavenly realm of the Kingdom, having just departed the earthly realm - the field (where nothing more is being done than harvesting souls and translating them from this world to the next).

that scene in 20 (IN HEAVEN) we are told continues for the period symbolically called a thousand years AND THEN SOMETHING HAPPENS to INTERRUPT IT.

satan is released for short season. this only happens ONCE.

its time for the eschaton...2 Thessalonians 2

all this happens before the Second Advent fo His Coming is the end of the world, the harvest.

more later.

Ill look forward to the rest,

OH and i now get what you were saying bout VW while i still think what you said was a bit harsh (maybe im just too lovey-dovey :p) i think hes just babbling now about nothing, there was some truth to what he was saying but i think for the most part i was inferring what i know to be truth into his post when that isnt what he meant at all. I dont think id go so far as to say he was a wolf or a false prophet but i def think hes misguided and perhaps needs to look into his receiving of the Spirit to make sure it was actually the baptism talked about in Acts and in the other epistles and even in the gospels. I also think he needs to judge what hes saying against scripture more, because while I believe in prophecies etc that are given from the Spirit, i also believe it NEVER contradicts or replaces scripture, rather it is a harmony between the vertical word of God (to prophets for specific events relating to present or future) and the horizontal word of God (the Bible which is inspired and is intended for salvation and service throughout the ages).

Anyway im babbling cos im tired :p

Love ya too zone

Have you already reached the resurrection? It has already happened? In the 20th chapter of Revelation we see those who have achieved the first resurrection. Therefore, any millennium now, and there can not be. Human prejudices.

There are many references to the Tabor in the old Testament, reflecting its importance.

Joshua 19:22: "And the coast reacheth to Tabor, and Shahazimah, and Bethshemesh; and the
outgoings of their border were at Jordan: sixteen cities with their villages".

Judges 4:6" And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedeshnaphtali, and said unto him,
Hath not the LORD God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw toward mount Tabor, and take with
thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?"

Judges 4:12: "And they showed Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam was gone up to mount Tabor".

Judges 4:14: "And Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the LORD hath delivered
Sisera into thine hand: is not the LORD gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor,
and ten thousand men after him".

Judges 8:18: "Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at
Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king".

1 Samuel 10:3: "Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor,
and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another
carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:"

1 Chronicles 6:77: "Unto the rest of the children of Merari were given out of the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmon
with her suburbs, Tabor with her suburbs:"

Psalms 89:12 "The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy
name."

Jeremiah 46:18 "As I live, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, Surely as Tabor is among
the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come."

Josiah 5:1: "Hear ye this, O priests; and hearken, ye house of Israel; and give ye ear, O house of the
king; for judgment is toward you, because ye have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon
Tabor."

Can we step back and recap here? There seems to be several conversations, can we list
them?

1) Are we talking about a history of rulers or kings from the north

2) Are we talking about current events

3) Are we talking about the Crusades?

4) Are we talking about Revelation and future events?

5) Are we limiting 'north'-- to -- ' that north of Jerusalem'?
- What about coming out of the North such as Russia or Canada?

-- Please don't respond yes or no -- but with a few sentences on each category (and others)
to help re-focus the thread -- thank you.

We are asleep (or spiritually dead) before we come to a saving knowledge and accept
and commit to it.
This is Justification, this is 'the quickening'. The first death is spiritual
death. We have a chance in this life to wake up or to be "defibrillated" spiritually, being
brought back from [spiritual] death by a jolt of enlightenment (a death in the family, a
terminal disease, a job loss, the loss of a home to a natural disaster, a refugee in war,
etc.). Yes, this IS the FIRST RESURRECTION!

Our fleshly body dies, and the spirit we leave behind passes on to those we have
influenced in this life. "Eternal Life" means you pass the life giving spirit on to others
(LEGACY).

If you don't have that spirit, you are judged at death (physical death, the 'second death')
and dismissed as not a spirit-person to follow in the steps of. Think of a role model you
may have admired and aspired to who dies and you take on that memory, legacy, spirit
of that person - this is that spirit passing.

Now think of a person you despise and who dies, in your mind, that person is judged, and
you would want to put them, and their actions in this life behind you. To take the first
spirit means you too will help create a society that can live on and not be judged to death
(as in war or disease or crime etc.). Taking the spirit of the second person, leads right
back in to that round of suffering and death .. again,
(as in war or disease or crime etc.).

Think of the parable of the wheat and the tares ...

According to the Matthew 13:24-30 during the final judgment, the angels will separate the
"sons of the evil one" (the "tares" or weeds) from the "sons of the kingdom" (the wheat).
It follows the Parable of the Sower, and precedes the Parable of the Mustard Seed.

There are several definitions of DEATH:

(1) The return of the fleshy body to dust in the absence of the of the spirit of man, 2
Corinthians 5:1-8, James 2:26.

(2) The state of most living men in each generation wherein our true spiritual character
from God is not functioning in us nor governing our actions, Matthew 8:22, Ephesians
2:1-3. (I call this 'sleep' (zombies)).

(3) A description of Satan and his family, who are mechanical "robots" made from
non-living dust to be tools in God's education scheme, , Isaiah 14:19-21, Ezekiel 32:31-32.

Jesus is always with us now, but again, many are spiritually asleep, many are spiritually
dead
. Some speak of a second resurrection

I know a lot of what I say flies in the face of much you hear or may have heard sitting in a
pew.
But I am not asking for your money or praise, just your attention and seeking spirit.
Feel free to question all that is said -- asking we receive, seeking we find, knocking, it shall
be opened unto us ...

The Manger: Massey - 'Ancient Egypt' - "Hathor-Meri was the mother of Horus, the Su in
the "house of a thousand years", born in the stable or the manger of the bull. He had
been brought forth as a young lion in the house of the lions, as a scarabaeus in the sign of
the beetles, and now was manifested as the calf in the sign of the bull. And it was as the
lunar cow in the "house of a thousand years" that the mother brought forth her child as a
calf in the stable which was rebuilt for the oxen, that is, for the bull, the cow and calf, when
the birthplace passed into the zodiacal house, stable, or byre of Taurus. In re-erecting
the house of heaven on earth when it was going to ruin, or, at the end of the period, King
Har-si-Atef says he has built the stable for oxen in the temple. (Stele of King Har-si-Atef,
left side".Records, v. 6, p. 90.) In this stable of the temple the mystery of the birthplace
was sacredly performed, and the child born in a manger (the Apt) was exhibited to the
worshippers every year.

Was Christmas celebrated in ancient Egypt?

Well the ancient Egypts celebrated a feast-day on the 25th of July which was the start of
the Egyptian year. The feast was the celebration of the messiah in Egypt in the cult of
Horus. The feast involved an abundance of food and wine and was known as the Wag
festival. This festival was linked to the coming of the Inundation of the Nile river which
brought forth food, grain, trees and all manner of vegetation, in short: all of life was
sustained by the Nile. Before this time they had fasted for some 40 nights in
commemoration of the ending of the 40 years of famine whilst Horus wandered the
wildnerness and was challenged by "temptation" by Apep-Sut (The Papyrus of Hu-nefer)

According to astrological data the 25th of July begun in the sign of Leo but due to the
procession (of the equinoxes) through time the 25th was configured into the 25th of
December; the vernol equinox in the sign of pisces and thus heralding a new age of
enlightenment. The annula cycle of the inundation of the Nile waters coincides with what
the Egyptians referred to as "the House of a Thousand Years"; the time in which Horus
was set to rule the world after the battle with Sut

Thus the coming of Horus coincided with the battle with Sut and the promise of a new age
after Sut and his "evil" reign had ended in the lake of Osiris (the Lake of Fire) at Edfu.

Astrological data confirms that during pre-dynastic Egypt the easter equinox was in the
sign of Leo (thus the birth of the messiah was placed in the house of Leo), then as the
years progressed the procession changed when the equinox entered the sign of the crab,
then in the sign of the heavenly twins (Gemini), and then in the sign of the Taurus the Bull
(coinciding with the Cult of Amun) and then to Aries the ram (during the late dynastic
period) and finally to Pisces which heralds the return of the flood and consequently a new
age begins. Notice that this comprises the concept of Zep-tepi which principally pertains
to the concept of time-travell (i.e going back in time) and the return to the primeval state
- from when the Great flood first began.

Horus was actually born twice! Once for the "New Year" on the 25th of July (Horus the
Younger) and again on the 25th of December (Horus the Elder).

When was Jesus believed to have been born? Some say 25th of March, and some say 25th
of December. But according to the gospel of James, Jesus was born on the equinox when
he observed whilst looking up at the night sky and the pole of heaven stood still, that the
flowing of the river had stood still and the children were not drinking from the river.

Psalms 90: 3-6
A prayer of Moses the man of God.

3 You turn people back to dust,
saying, “Return to dust, you mortals.”
4 A thousand years in your sight
are like a day that has just gone by,

or like a watch in the night.
5 Yet you sweep people away in the sleep of death—
they are like the new grass of the morning:
6 In the morning it springs up new,
but by evening it is dry and withered.

The Astrotheological Millennium

In an article in the Transactions of the Society of Biblical Archaeology, biblical scholar
Ernest de Bunsen (1819-1903) discusses various astronomical and astrotheological
concepts, such as the "fortnightly period of the Hebrews, from the new moon to the full
moon, in connection with the precessional cycle of 72 years...." de Bunsen continues:

"The fourteen of the litanies of Thot, the god riding on the moon, and whose secret
number was 72, are explained by reference to 14 moon-stations of the lunar zodiac, the
hidden Mazzareoth or mansions of the moon in the book of Job, and to the precessional
cycle of 72 years, which can be connected to the solar year and the Phoenix-period of the
Egyptians, the Saros of the Babylonians, and the Mosaic period of on day like a thousand
years...." (TSBA, VI, 586.)

The Mosaic thousand -year period apparently refers to Psalms 90:4, which has been
interpreted to mean that "with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand
years as one day." (2 Peter 3:8) Here we see the contention that the 1,000- year cycle
comprises an astrotheological development based on the 14-day lunar period multiplied
by either 71 or 72, the number of the dodecans, as well as the time it takes for the
precession of the equinoxes to move one degree, to equal some 994 to 1008 years. (See
also Kuhn, LL, 547.)

We further discover that astronomical studies have been done recently on th actual
existence of a 1,000-year solar cycle. As related in the journal Solar Physics, the results of
a study by L.H. Ma published in 2007 and entitled, "Thousand-Year Cycle signals in Solar
Activity," regarding "long-term fluctuations of solar variation," demonstrate "a
thousand-year cycle in solar activity." (Solar Physics, v. 245, n. 2 (10/07)

In light of these facts of the ancients possessing a tradition of a thousand-year-old solar
cycle symbolized by various myths, it is highly plausible that this 1,000-year period -
whether simply "mythical" as in the ancient phoenix tales, or factual in that these myths
truly represented ancient knowledge of such a solar cycle - rates as what is being
reflected in the stories of a god or solar hero "returning" to rule for a millenium. In this
regard, we should hardly base our futures on an ongoing cycle of the sun that is being
erroneously taken as "prophecy," as we find in various Armageddon and "End Times"
apocolyptic scenarios, based on millenarianism.

"The House of a Thousand Years"

Another controversial aspect of the Horus-Jesus connection is the suggestion that, like
his Jewish counterpart, the Egyptian savior would rule on Earth for 1,000 years. Over the
centuries, millions of Christians worldwide have relied on promises based on the supposed
"Second Coming," as found at Revelation 20:2-7, in which it is said that Satan will be
bound, and Christ and his saints will reign, for a millennium.

...This theme of the great god or holy one's return to reign for a thousand years can be
found not only in Christianity but also in Islam, and is called "millenarianism." ...Like
millenariansim, Christian chiliasm is the doctrine that Jesus Christ will reign upon the
Earth for 1,000 years. As might be expected, we canfind a parallel to this notion within the
Egyptian religion as well. The "House of a Thousand Years" is mentioned on a stela that
the Nubian king Harsiyotef/Harsiotef/Har-si-atef/Heru-Sa-Atef (404-369 BC) dedicated to
Amun at Napata (modern Jebel/Gebel, Barkal), dating to the 26th Egyptian Dynasty
(housed at the Museum at Cairo, Cairo JE 48864). On this stela created by Harsiotef/Heru
-Sa-Atef - a name meaning "Horus, son of his father" (Torok, KK, 203) - the inscription
relates: "And on another occasion, when the House of a Thousand Years began to fall into
ruin, I rebuilt it for thee (Budge, ES, 80; Maspero, Etudes, 235. Budge dated the stela of
Heru-Sa-Atef to around 560 BC). As Budge says, "Heru-Sa-atef then directed his energies
and money to the restoration of the House of a Thousand Years (Budge, EL, cxiii.). In this
regard, in Budges Hieroglyphic Dictionary we find under the entry of per-kha-renput,
"house of a thousand years," as on the Harsiotef Stela.

The Phoenix/Benu Bird

In ancient times, the thousand -year cycle appeared within the famous myth concerning
the resurrection from ashes of the phoenix, called a "sun bird" (Lactantius, "The
Phoenix"). Although many writers discuss a 500-year-life cycle, the phoenix was said by
the ancient Latin writer Martial (40-102 AD/CE) to have been renewed every "ten
centuries" (Epig. Lib. V, VII; Martial/Bohn, 223.), makinga millenium. In this regard,
Rutgers University prophessor Dr. Carol Salvo Heffernan says that "the phoenix will
achieve a qualified immortality-post-mortem, through its offspring, every thousand
years." (Heffernan, 62.)

...As concerns the earliest written mention of the phoenix, Dr. van der Toorn relates that
several writers, including various Talmudic rabbis, claim the Hebrew word at Job 29:18 -
chowl or hol - normally translated as "sand," is in fact "phoenix," (van der Toorn, 655,
656; Shuchat, 345.) which indeed makes more sense with the rest of the scripture: "Then I
thought, 'I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand [phoenix]..."
(RSV)

...Regarding the phoenix in Egypt, Dr. Howard Schwartz, a professor at the University of
Saint Louis, concludes:

"...The legend of the Phoenix has been taken from Egyptian mythology.... The myth of the
Phoenix moved beyond its Egyptian origins to enter Greek, Jewish, and Christian
literature." (Schwartz, 149.)

As some might expect from the god's identification with the benu, who in turn is deemed
to be the phoenix, a millenium-bringer, Horus is associated with a thousand year reign on
Earth. In "The Dirge of Seti-Menephtah" appears the following, as related by Dr. John A.
Paine (fl. 1889-1906), an archaeologist and curator at the New York's Metropolitan
Museum of Art:

"O Horus, friend of things that are just!
Thou shalt dwell a thousand years on the earth..." (The Century, XXXVII, 728.)

...One could say therefore that the "Horus-Bennu" reigned a thousand years before dying
and resurrecting to bring a new millenium. Horus as the sun god, naturally, is part of a
solar cycle, in this case evidently reigning in a "house" for a millennium.

Jesus and the Phoenix

In his epistle to the Corinthians (25-26), Clement clearly related that the bird is reborn,
renewed, or resurrected from the ashes of his former self. In the 26th chapter in this
letter, the Church father asks whether or not is a "great and wonderful thing" that God
will "raise up all who have served Him in holiness and in the confidence of a good faith,
seeing that even a bird is made to show the mightiness of His promises?"
(Clement/Gregg, 23-24.) Clement then cites various Old Testament scriptures as
promises of the resurrection, passages using terminology that sounds very Egyptian, as
at Psalms 28:7, 3:5 and Job 19:26 in the Septuagint. The story of the phoenix rising from
the dead is deemed a "widespread myth" by Clements time, and it is apparent that this
rebirth or resurrection theme existed for centuries before the common era.

In addition to the comparisons by several other Christian writers, such as Lactanius, who
wrote an entire treatise on the phoenix, we also discover an ancient Coptic text according
to which "the last known appearance of the phoenix marked the birth of Jesus in
Bethlehem." (Heffernan, 38.)

Again, the identification of the phoenix with Jesus lasted for centuries, as evidenced by a
poem in Old English called "the Phoenix," in which "Jesus and the phoenix are made
explicitly parallel." (Carter, 102.) Jesus has been called the "true phoenix," which
suggests that the pertinent parts of the phoenix myth, including not only its death but
also its resurrection - essentially of a solar hero - clearly proceed Christ's purported
advent.

look at it again:

the answer is in a simple, prayerful look at what is the period called a thousand years.
exactly what DOES Rev 20 say, and what does it NOT say.

First, it should be pointed out that scripture does not speak of "the thousand year reign of
Christ." Revelation 20:4 says, "...and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the
witness of Jesus, and for the word of God,...and they lived and reigned with Christ a
thousand years." It's not Christ that reigns 1000 years, but those who were killed for
God's sake that reign with Christ 1000 years.

To illustrate, consider the phrase, "John Doe reigned with the king for one year." Does
this mean the king reigned for only one year? No, it does not. The king could reign for
many years, but the point is not how long the king reigned but how long John reigned with
the king. The king isn't the subject, it is speaking about how long John reigns with him.
Likewise, Revelation 20:4 is not about how long Jesus will reign, but how long others will
reign with Jesus. There's a big difference.

* Who was the 'oldest man' in the bible and how long did he live -- not 1000 years, but 31
Less, 969
* How long has the age of the automobile been, but about 100
* The space age, hardly yet 70, and the space shuttle is now gone away
* how old are the Unions or the Federal Reserve (not yet 100)
* How old are the Lutherans, Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, (not 1000)

People or Things

Job 9:3, "If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand."

Psalms 50:10, "For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand
hills."

Ecclesiastes 7:28, "...one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all
those have I not found."

Song of Solomon 4:4, "…whereon there hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty
men."

Daniel 5:1, "Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and
drank wine before the thousand."

Daniel 7:10, "...thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten
thousand stood before him."

Days, Years, and Generations

Deuteronomy 7:9, "…which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that…keep his
commandments to a thousand generations;"

1 Chronicles 16:15, "Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he
commanded to a thousand generations;"

Psalms 84:10, "For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand."

Psalms 90:4, "For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past,"

Psalms 105:8, "He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he
commanded to a thousand generations."

Ecclesiastes 6:6, "Yea, though he live a thousand years twice told, yet hath he seen no
good: do not all go to one place?"

2 Peter 3:8, "...one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as
one day."

A KINGDOM FOREVER:

Luke 1:33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there
shall be no end.

2 Samuel 7:13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the
throne of his kingdom forever.

Psalm 89:4 'I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all
generations.'" Selah

Psalm 89:36 that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the
sun;

Isaiah 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign
on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and
righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will
accomplish this.

Daniel 2:44 "In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will
never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms
and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever.

Daniel 4:34 At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven,
and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him
who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from
generation to generation.

(other similar verses in Daniel)

Revelation 11:15 The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in
heaven, which said: "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and
of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever."
