Hmmm, well!!! Better tell that to the Catholics' Queen of Heaven. The same one who promises salvation to those who will honor her with the Rosary.
That is not part of the doctrine or belief of the Catholic church. If you did see/hear Catholics making that claim, they are in error.

There lies your problem, 'was...being a very devout, bible reading". Get back to the Bible and leave those traditions where they belong. If this does not tell you are anyone else where the problem lies, then nothing will.
His story is not a new one I can assure you, pretty much every convert in RCIA each year has roughly the same story. Sure Evangelical churches steal away Catholics, often the young and uncatechized (or badly catechized) in the Faith, but we generally get your very active and devout old-guard (which is not a bad thing since they usually bring their entire family with them) .

Basically from my conversations with converts it all started with wondering "Maybe the Catholics are right", and then they start to question the premise of Sola Scriptura all-together. Finally they usually look back at the writings of the Early Christians and their leaders and they see a church that is not Protestant, but Catholic.

I think he's referring to the promise to those that faithfully pray the rosary of final repentance. Which means they will not die without the Sacraments.

The Catholics content that they do not worship the goddess of Heaven, but yet who is this person who promises more than a human can deliver. You are correct, the Catholic Church does not worsip Mary, the mother of Jesus, but Isis and her child. All of Sripture pertains to God and His Son, but the Catholic Church would have it as goddess of Heaven with her birth.

What do you make of these 15 promises she gives to those who would serve her with the Rosar located at Our Lady's 15 Promises for Praying the Rosary

Our church doesn't teach that she is a goddess, but rather someone who BY SCRIPTURE is one who should be revered. NOT as revered as Jesus himself,
but as OUR heavenly mother.

Jesus telling his DISCIPLE John that Mary is his mother (we are ALSO his disciples):

John 19:26-27
When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.”

Mary is to ALWAYS be called blessed by mankind (which is indeed the case if you are Catholic):

Luke 1: 46, 48

And Mary said:
for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed

Mary, 'queen' of Heaven in scripture: (protestants believe this refers to Isreal, but why would God refer to Isreal as a WOMAN and not a NATION??)

Revelation 12:1
A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun,
with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.

I don't mind calling Mary blessed. Because honestly she was blessed. So blessed? Yes. Ordained? No.

As far as the Revelation thing...from what I can tell, Revelation has a LOT of symbolism. The Bible itself has a lot of symbolism in a lot of places...so that's what I'm gettin' outta that.

Though with that being said, from what it sounds like the Catholic church that you go to doesn't sound as out-there as some are...

that was specifically to John to take care of Mary after His death. ...It doesn't teach that Mary is our mother. There are verses about Abraham being our spiritual father, why doesn't the church have rosaries about him?

yes it true Mary will be called blessed but Jesus says MORE blessed are those hear the word of God and keep it. ...

Luke 11
27 And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!”
28 But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

God refers to Israel as a WOMAN often in the OT. it is not changed. Revelation 12 is not about MARY but about Faithful Israel, the remnant that remained pure.

This is from part of the Rosary prayer.

They call Mary, holy Queen, our life, our hope.

Jesus is the only holy one. Jesus is our only life. Jesus is our only hope.

I post this very short example because Catholics are very good at taking an 'accusation', then saying, "Hey we don't do that'." : Then giving an explanation that puts a frogs hair distance between what they say they do and what they were accused of. In essensce if there is only a frogs hairs distance, you're still kinda doing it!

Anyways this serves as a clear example that they DO treat Mary how we claim they DO treat Mary. They can't wiggle outta this one with a frogs hair distance argument.

The Hail, Holy Queen: Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley, of tears. Turn, then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus; O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

*
You left off the last verse that is always said with this prayer " Pray for us O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ"
If we considered her a goddess we would not need her to call on a Higher Power.

Luke 2 34:35
34 and Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this [child] is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel; and for a sign which is spoken against; 35 yea and a sword shall pierce through thine own soul; that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed.

She obviously plays a role in salvation beyond the birth of Jesus as the above verse clearly states.

Mother of God!!!! If God has a mother, then who is the god of His mother?
Does not our High Priest pray for us? Who else do we need besides our Advocate?

Those verses only states that her heart will be pierced through with a sword, feeling the most dreadful sorrow seeing her Son upon the cross.

Was it not said by Jesus, "The one who does my will is my mother and my brother?" So, it is obvious that she plays no more of a role than one who is blessed amoungst all woman: having brought in the Savior into the world.

She was mother of Jesus who was God manifested in the flesh. To call her mother of God is misleading and just an attempt to put her on a pedestal....you know it, I know it, and everyone else knows it.

Look, here your only going to get one side of the story since we can't address everything with how fast some of it comes in. So I would recommend you google "Catholic Answers Forum" and ask some questions there as well.

We are going to look at what God has said in His Word................

John 14:13
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

John 14:14
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 16..
23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say NOT unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
( Jesus said we ought to ask God ourselves; IN HIS NAME.............. NEVER SAID FOR NO ONE ELSE CAN GO TO GOD FOR US, NOT EVEN HE WILL ASK GOD FOR US)))))

27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from (NOT MARY)God. ( God loves us enough that is why He said we can come boldly before His throne of grace))))

1 Timothy 2:5
For there is ONE God, and ONE MEDIATOR between God >>>> and>>>> men, the man Christ Jesus; ((( This is true for the man part of Jesus, for he is our kinsman redeemer, the first fruit of the dead, "spiritually ")

Remember: The Spirit of God did not come onto Jesus the man till after He was baptized.......... when he was born he was all man, who sought to do the will of the Father......... as He said " I do what I see the Father do, and say What I hear the Father say.... he do not ever speak of Mary.....

YET we still have people trying to defend their belief in the Roman Catholic Church. Was not the point of this thread to state for this site what the foundational beliefs are? This thread is slowly degenerating into all of the other Catholic vs Non-Catholic threads that we see in this forum. The points have been made. We are here not to support what is heresy, but to give the truth. With that, can the bickering stop?

OK, LET'S GO THROUGH THE WORD OF GOD TO SEE WHAT IT SAY ABOUT MARY.....

LET'S GO BACK IN THE BIBLE FIRST......

Moses....... Spoke face-to-face with God, God called Him a friend........... He also got to see God from the rear...... He got to see the Finger of God......... God appeared to Moses in a burning Bush. hmm.... God did all this with Moses........ yet, Moses is not considered a saint???

Sarah and Abraham........ She being 90 and he 100........ a miracle birth, who the Seed ( Jesus Christ came through)

But, how is it they are not seen as also saints????

There are some many times God done great things though a man or woman, yet how is it they are looked over by Catholics???

NOW MARY............

Luke 1:38
And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

Remember what Jesus said about Abraham being the Father of Jesus Christ........

King James Version (KJV)
56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. (
(((( HOW CAN JESUS BE BEFORE ABRAHAM........ YET, COULD BE THE SON OF ANY HUMAN..... He said the same about David:

42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David.

43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,

44 The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?

45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

HOW THEN MARY CALLING HIM LORD, CAN BE HIS MOTHER, HOW CAN ANYONE EVEN WITH THE SMALLEST UNDERSTANDING.... Say that God has a mother............ when the bible tells us that God, and the Son of God had no beginning neither will have no end.............. Jesus Christ did not start with Mary, He started from where God started Him.............

The Bible tells us....... In Collossians 1:15-17...Jesus Christ: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:.17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.. .....

Mary was nothing but a vessel to bring fourth, The Lord Who already existed....... How can she make Him afther He made her????

Ok one more thing........ SHE DID NOT DIE A VIRGIN.... SHE GAVE JOSEPH CHILDREN........

MATTHEW 1:24-25....Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.

MARK 6:3-4.........3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.4 But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

NONE OF THESE PEOPLE WERE NAMED AS DISCIPLES, THEy ARE CALLED HIS SISTERS AND BROTHERS IN HIS HOME TOWN.... THE PEOPLE ADDRESSED THEM AS SUCH BECAUSE THEY WERE TRYING TO MAKE HIM NO DIFFERENT THEN THEY ARE, FOR KNOWING HIM AS HE GREW UP......... NAMING THOSE OF HIS HOUSEHOLD..... father, mother, brothers and sisters...... they did not call them his disciples,,,, WHY? because they did not believe he was someone special enough to have power, or followers............ like who he think he is...... we known him all his life......... we know his whole household....... he can't be anyone important........ even though they saw the miracles he did...... they did not believe on him...... Jesus did not give more power or privilage to His earhtly mother, as he did to anyone who did the will of God.........

MATTHEW 12...........
46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.

47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.

48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! ((((( He called his disciples, HIS MOTHER ....... ))))

50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Trust the Word Of God......... He alone can save Us......... Jesus Christ is the Word of God........ and He is the Only True Chrurch...... for the Church is His Body........ HE BEING THE HEAD AND WE, THE CHILDREN OF GOD, MAKE UP THE BODY......

Christianity is not just Protestant. Christianity is a religion with three denominations; Catholic, Protestant and East Orthodox. Catholicism and the East Orthodox are not separate from Christianity. They are part of it.

Yeah, Catholics believe that Mary is the mother of God. They believe that Mary was crowned the Queen of Heaven. They believe that Mary was sinless, just like Jesus.

Yeah, Catholics believe that they are not the Saints, and that the Saints are people in Catholic history (sorry if this info is incorrect).

Catholics use books in their Bibles that we don't use in our Protestant Bibles.

SO WHAT!!!!!!!!!!

Catholicism and the East Orthodox are not separate religions heading straight for hell. They are our brothers and sisters in Christ. We should stop attacking them.

I'm gonna be honest. If I went somewhere and the nearest church was a Catholic church, and the nearest Protestant church was a hundred miles away, I'd go to the Catholic church. Not because I'm lazy, but because you are still worshipping God in a Catholic church.

Respect them instead of persecuting them.

Catholic Doctrine is not a heresy. I would happily welcome Catholic Doctrine. But I follow the Protestant Doctrine.

I would discuss Catholic Doctrine with Catholics. Just like I would discuss Protestant Doctrine with Protestants. The same with Islamic Doctrine. I would discuss Islamic Doctrine with Muslims and Christians who are interested in evangelism. But I would discuss Protestant Doctrine with Catholics as well. If they allowed me. I would respect their request. The same with Muslims, if they didn't want to discuss Protestant Doctrine, I'd respect that.

To all the Catholic and Anglican Christians, Kyrie Eleison and Christe Eleison. You should be familiar with it. I think it's Greek, but I'm not sure. What does 'Eleison' mean? I have an idea what 'Kyrie' and 'Christe' mean.
Kyrie Eleison, Christie Eleison -- Lord, have mercy, Christ have mercy

When God saw peopel getting too hung up on keeping laws, He sent Jesus to fulfill the law and to narrow it down to 2 things: Love the Lord with all your heart and all your mind, and likewise to love your neighbour as yourself. Do any of you really think that God is turning people away for minute differences of opinion on Mary, mother of our Lord Jesus Christ? Catholics are christians. Do you really think Christianity began with the reformation? No, it began with the death of Jesus. Traditions have changes and varied and there is a Christian home for everyone. God doesn't want us to spew hate -- there are a lot of folks around here who ought to be ashamed of themeselves. I'll put you all in my prayers and pray that the Lord allows you to be filled with love, compassion and acceptance.

highly unlikely unless the mods decide to close the thread... the Catholics will continue posting what they believe and the non Catholics will either respond to their post or post something they believe that Catholics believe and in turn the Catholics will state they don't really believe what the non Catholic says they believe and then some Catholics will differ slightly on what they believe and we might get an Eastern Orthodox in the mix... and it continues.....

meanwhile some will wonder if this is heresy, what then is sound doctrine?

1 Peter 1
13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”[c]
17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; 18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. 20 He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you 21 who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit[d] in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,[e] 24 because
“All flesh is as grass,
And all the glory of man[f] as the flower of the grass.
The grass withers,
And its flower falls away,
25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.”[g]

Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.

Brilliant Truth !

Do not add to nor take away from the Word of God, scripture does, indeed, state.
That fact tells me that though Catholics are Christians, there studying books , like Barach and Siriach, that Christians don't. That right there!!!!!! will call the rise of Satan, for in Christ's true church, there is NO division. Man made the seperation of religions , NOT God.

My biggest, and, ONLY problem with Catholicism is there feeling that they're sect is going to Heaven and THEY are the true alone Christ's church. This thought process is what mincemeats christianity protestantism and catholicism christianity, divisively, so, so, shredded :(

I don't care about fact that Mary is sinless or not, even though to me she was a virgin and blessed, not without sin, and, not a name capitalized, not said as anything but 'mother' in scripture. Wouldn't it be 'Mother' if she was esteemed as more powerful being than others. She found favor with God because she was following God's will, like Abraham, like Enoch, like David, Elijah, Noah, et al, and, yes, all these folk found favor with God, were blessed in some way, just ordinary blessing. As I see it, for Mary, nothing blessing her out of the ordinary past carrying the Saviour Of The World in her stomach area. , sure, she will be blessed for generations, no doubt, she carried God in her, so to speak.

But, anyway, uh, yeah, I just believe that the heresy is more belittling troubling to me than preaching wrong Truth. I mean, it's both things but, yeah, enough, I don't want to disrupt the peace , I just stated some of my 'Mary' thoughts my intention, to , hopefully, have Catholics who believe they are the ONLY bride of Christ that I think God will divorce you at the Judgment Seat for that kind of thinking :(
