Title: "The Doomsday Books"
Release date: March 1987
Writers: Mike W. Barr

Pop-culture historians regard Detective Comics as the first comic devoted exclusively to one theme. While it began with a variety of detective-related stories, from hard-boiled Slam Bradley to Sax Rohmer adaptations, fans remember the comic for one principal reason: it introduced the Batman.

In March, 1987, DC decided to celebrate 50 years of its landmark periodical with a special story, "The Doomsday Book." As Mike W. Barr explains on the inside cover, they knew it would be a Batman story-- he's dominated the title since 1939-- but they wanted to include other aspects of Detective's history. The resulting story proves amusing, and it teams Batman and Robin with the aged Slam Bradley, Detective alumnus Elongated Man, and the celebrated Sherlock Holmes. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's great detective had, after all, shaped the genre in which this comic was rooted, and 1987 marked his centenniel.

The cover features Batman and Holmes examining Detective #27, the cover of which also hangs on the wall. That issue, of course, marked Batman's first appearance. This is a comic, so Holmes appears at his most iconic: deerstalker cap, inverness coat, and curved pipe. Within, the long and tangled tale begins in a dive bar on Christmas, with a private eye borrowed from another subgenre.

Slam Bradley appeared in the first issue of Detective. He's now an old man, still in practice, still smoking a pack a day, still wearing his fedora and trenchcoat, and still narrating his life in the world-weary, Mike Hammer style. In the traditon of comic book heroes, his hair remains dark atop, and only the sides have grayed with age. He's thinking of retiring, but he entertains a client, a man from England who calls himself "Thomas Morgan" and who claims his fiancée has been kidnapped. No sooner does he begin his tale than a group of armed men burst into the office, forcing Bradley and client to flee. By the end of the story he has found the young woman-- and learns the truth of his client's identity.

The next chapter brings Ralph Dibny, the Elongated Man, into the mystery. The Plastic Man-like hero is visiting London with his wife, who has gone to the theater with friends. He walks the foggy streets alone, past 221B Baker Street, on his way to meet a man who claims he's found a new, unpublished Holmes adventure. He, too, encounters gunfire-- superheroes are danger-magnets-- and a descendant of Professor Moriarty. This chapter ends with Dibny meeting Bradley, who has come to England with his clients, hoping to solve a bigger mystery.

We visit the past next, and find Holmes and Watson, early in their partnership, on a case which Holmes forbids the doctor to publish. They cannot find enough evidence against the ringleader of the conspiracy-- Moriarty, of course-- and must remain silent until they can. Cruz, who draws this adventure, had earlier adapted Doyle for DC, and his style nicely recalls old Classics Comics. It suits Holmes and the Victorian Era well.

Finally, Batman and his sidekick, already in London, make their appearance, swinging from ropes affixed to.... Well, that's very hard to say, given that they appear to be above the Thames. The heroes of the 1987 stories join forces, realizing that the current Moriarty intends to fulfill a plot of his ancestor's, foiled by Holmes a century ago. Of course, this time he faces superheroes, a grizzled old pulp detective, and some young lovers. Someone else, too, lurks in the background providing aid.

The heroes win-- no spoilers there.
Those who wish to read the original may want to stop reading this account now.

The lurker proves to be the great detective himself who, "thanks to a proper diet, a certain distillation of royal jelly... and the rarified atmosphere of Tibet" where he keeps his "primary residence," has survived more than a century.

The issue also features an exellent poster by celebrated Batman artist Dick Sprang. It nicely recalls the style and adventures of the Dark Knight's earlier days, when comic-book villains were cartoonier, comic-book technology more preposterous, and no one had heard of mylar bags.

The cover features Batman and Holmes examining Detective #27

Detective No. 27 is a graphic novel by Michael Uslan and Peter Snejbjerg, published by DC Comics as an Elseworlds tale, detailing the adventures of a Bruce Wayne that never became The Batman, but instead became a detective in a secret society. He is the 27th detective in the agency, thus giving the graphic novel its title. (Which is, of course, also a reference to Batman's first appearence, in Detective Comics #27).

The story involves a complicated plot dating back to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, by a group of confederate sympathizers who wish to gain revenge by bringing great geneticists into developing a super virulent poison that will wipe out a major city.

The story is set in the 1920s and 1930s, as Bruce Wayne, who saw his parents murdered, returns to Gotham City after years of study. Instead of becoming a Super-Hero, he is ushered into the secret fraternity of detectives, and plays a vital role in foiling the evil scheme to poison all of Gotham City.

As a story, it works fine, and the plot is fairly involved and involving. And the historical nature of the story gives some nice surprises: if you've ever wanted to watch Bruce Wayne and Babe Ruth team up (with attendant Bat Man jokes), this is probably the only place to do it. As a Batman story, the story doesn't actually work, though. The key to Batman's characterization is a great rage that is only kept under control with an iron code of ethics and self-discipline, which results in a total competency and an almost super-human insight. This story doesn't seem to have the key to Batman's character, and is instead merely a tale of a man who shares some of Bruce Wayne's biography.

Rockefeller Foundation Predicts 13,000 Dead at London 2012 Olympics

James Britpod
libertytactics.com

A 2010 Rockefeller Foundation document entitled “Scenarios for the Future of Technology and International Development” outlines a scenario which results in the death of 13,000 during the 2012 Olympics.

The first worrying prediction begins in 2012 when ‘the pandemic the world had been anticipating for years’, finally hits, infecting nearly 20 percent of world population and claiming 8 million lives. Due to this pandemic, the Rockefeller Foundation outlines how the public will welcome a more authoritative government and a tighter control across all aspects of life, including Biometric IDs for all citizens.

The 2012 London Olympics Bombing
In the document, the Rockefeller Foundation ‘predicts’ that the decade of 2010-2020 will be named “The Doom Decade”, because of a wave of terrorist attacks, natural disasters as well as civil uprisings and financial collapses.

The years 2010 to 2020 were dubbed the “doom decade” for good reason: the 2012 Olympic bombing, which killed 13,000, was followed closely by an earthquake in Indonesia killing 40,000, a tsunami that almost wiped out Nicaragua, and the onset of the West China Famine, caused by a once-in-a-millennium drought linked to climate change.

Mirroring events in real life, the document also predicts that by 2015 a large share of the US’ armed forces are recalled from countries such as Afghanistan to be stationed domestically, apparently posse comitatus no longer being a concern.

In 2015, the U.S. reallocated a large share of its defense spending to domestic concerns, pulling out of Afghanistan—where the resurgent Taliban seized power once again.

As is happening right now, the document outlines how nations will lose power over their own finances due to massive debt, apparently handing over financial sovereignty to the banking technocrats.

But the document doesn’t just cover these topics. The growing mistrust in vaccines is covered in the Rockefeller document, where they state that due to corruption within national and global bodies such as WHO, “bogus” vaccines will result in mass deaths. According to the paper, the resulting mistrust in vaccines results in a large number of parents who avoid vaccination, which causes infant and child morality to rise to levels not seen since the 1970s.

The comics part; and movies etc; is nothing more complicated than that's how the perpetrators (like Rockefeller's clan) communicate with their minions. It's simple and obvious.
Predictive programming for us, inside info for them.
They have goals; plans that are inter-generational. They plan stuff and throw everything they have at it, ensuring it comes to pass (WW1 & WW2 = United Nations, etc).
They'll get their hour.

Yes, I think it highlights how your line of reasoning misses the point of the passage.
I thought the other man had missed the point when he used it in his post....

I have read the reasoning of some on the death penalty and i must admit mine is different...

Accused Colorado killer no easy fit for mass murderer profile | Reuters

By Sharon Begley
NEW YORK | Tue Jul 24, 2012 8:44pm EDT

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Unless James Holmes chooses to say why he went on the lethal shooting spree he is accused of in a Colorado movie theater last Friday, the analyses offered by forensic psychiatrists, based on their study of other mass murders, may be as close as we get.
From what is known of the attack and his life so far, experts say Holmes was probably not suffering from as serious a mental illness as Jared Loughner, who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia after killing six people in Tucson, Arizona, in 2011.
"People want to believe that someone who does something like this must be floridly psychotic," said Louis Schlesinger, professor of forensic psychology at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, who has studied mass killers since the 1970s. "They think, ‘ah, he's mentally ill; now I understand.' It makes people feel they and people they know would never behave this way."
The scarier prospect is that Holmes's psychological illness was more common, less severe, and not easily detectable.
As experts in forensic psychiatry try to figure out from afar what is wrong with Holmes, they are focusing on three details of the shooting: The targets were strangers to the killer, not colleagues or acquaintances; the shooter did not commit suicide or invite his own death at the hands of police; and Holmes warned authorities about his booby-trapped apartment before the explosives he rigged killed anyone.
Murdering 12 strangers and shooting dozens more points to a generalized paranoia and rage against the world rather than a specific grudge, forensic psychiatrists say.
"Most mass murderers kill specific people for specific reasons," said criminologist James Alan Fox of Northeastern University, who with colleague Jack Levin has studied every mass murder in the United States since the early 1980s. "They kill the bosses who fired them, the professors who wronged them. These are revenge killings."
One of the many mass murderers who fit this profile is Nathan Dunlap, who killed four employees at a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant in Aurora in December 1993, after he was fired and reportedly felt his boss had "made a fool" of him.
Holmes was in the process of withdrawing from the University of Colorado's graduate program in neuroscience, which has prompted speculation that academic failure might have played into his motives. But he did not target either professors or fellow students.
"REPRESENTATIVE" VICTIMS
That suggests his resentment was directed elsewhere than academia. It may put him closer to the second most common kind of mass murderer: one who targets people who represent what they consider the source of their woes, experts said.
"These killers don't know the victims personally, but they're getting back at a certain kind of individual," said Fox.
Marc Lepine, for instance, separated men from women in a classroom at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal in December 1989 and shot nine women, six fatally. He killed eight more women as he rampaged through the corridors and cafeteria, claiming feminism had ruined his life.
Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 students and teachers at Virginia Tech in April 2007, the deadliest murder by a single gunman in U.S. history. Cho called other students "hedonistic" and "brats" who had "raped" his soul and had "everything" they wanted, such as "Mercedes … , golden necklaces … , trust fund … , vodka and cognac."
If the victims did not represent a category of people Holmes specifically hated or resented, then he would fall into the category of mass murderers who target strangers indiscriminately, the least common profile.
In such cases, "the perpetrator has a grudge against the world and feels that if it were not for the system, things would have gone better for him," said Fox. "He doesn't care who he kills as long as he kills a lot of people."
About 16 percent of mass killings target complete strangers, said Levin, professor of sociology and criminology at Northeastern. They are not necessarily more or less severely mentally ill than murderers who target acquaintances or people who belong to a group they resent, but their pathology takes a distinct form.
Wide-ranging suspicion that the world has treated you unfairly can be a sign of paranoid personality disorder. The American Psychiatric Association defines that condition as "a pervasive distrust and suspiciousness of others such that their motives are interpreted as malevolent, beginning by early adulthood."
The condition has an estimated lifetime prevalence in the United States of 4.4 percent; schizophrenia affects 1.1 percent of U.S. adults, according to the National Institutes of Health.
There is no evidence Holmes felt paranoia, nor have any records emerged showing he was ever diagnosed with or treated for any form of mental illness. But the absence of such evidence does not rule out the disorder, experts said.
"Of all the psychoses, paranoia is the most difficult to detect," said John Jay's Schlesinger. "Unless you broach a particular subject - like work, if someone thinks his boss is out to get him - they might very well seem normal if you sat down and talked to them. In Holmes' case, it could have been an encapsulated paranoia, focused on one particular area of life where he thinks people are out to get him."
If so, Holmes would fit the profile of the mass murderer whose act has been triggered by a severe strain and led him to externalize blame, Levin and Fox's studies have shown.
"They blame everyone but themselves for their frustration and disappointment," said Levin. "Then there is some acute strain, which usually takes the form of a catastrophic loss - of a job, of money, of a child in a custody battle, or of academic standing. ... The catastrophic strain sets the stage for the planning phase of the mass murder."
NO SOURCE OF PERSPECTIVE
Another clue to Holmes's mental state is that he clearly intended to survive the massacre, wearing body armor during the attack and then surrendering to authorities.
In contrast, say experts, most of the mass killers they call "pseudocommandos" - those who kill in public, plan meticulously, and are armed to the teeth - expect to die in their rampage, noted Dr James Knoll, a forensic psychiatrist at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, in a 2010 study. Virginia Tech's Cho killed himself, as did the two teenagers who fatally shot 13 people at Colorado's Columbine High School in April 1999.
"That (Holmes) didn't is an indication that he was different in psychological terms than the others we've studied," said Levin.
Holmes's warning to authorities that he had booby-trapped his apartment before the explosives could kill anyone suggests "he felt he had accomplished his mission," said Fox. "He showed the world how fearsome and powerful he was."
President Barack Obama did not say the name of the suspected killer in his remarks in Aurora last Sunday. Some reporters, notably CNN's Anderson Cooper, have suggested the press not use Holmes's name, denying him the infamy he may have sought.
^I really like this part^
Whether mass killers are motivated by a desire for notoriety "is hard to generalize," said Schlesinger. "Some are, some aren't. All we can say is that infamy is a motivation for some."
Were there warning signs that, if acted on, might have prevented the tragedy in Aurora?
Based on the scores of mass murderers he has studied, Northeastern's Fox says there is "a consistent profile in which someone has a history of frustration and failure despite promise and aptitude. But they also have a very weak support system: They don't have close friends or family nearby to turn to for help or to put their thoughts in perspective."
Holmes has been described by fellow students as quiet and reserved, though not an outright loner. Fox warns that not even more dramatic social isolation is a reliable warning sign.
"There are thousands and thousands of people who fit that pattern and do not kill anyone," Fox said. "You can't use it to predict who will become (a mass murderer). These are not red flags, but yellow ones. They become red only in retrospect, when the blood flows."

I may well have erred by saying that James Holmes was probably not responsible for the shooting. I mean, he was likely "sort of" responsible and "sort of" not responsible.

They call it "Devil's Breath" and it would definitely explain how a University student with no history of mental illness or criminal behaviour would suddenly go nuts and start shooting people. It would also explain why he now suffers from Amnesia and why he looks like he is in a "drugged" state.

bible prophecy doesn't actually -say- there will be world government...except for the reign of christ...the other stuff is up for interpretation...

we cannot allow -speculation- to taint our exegesis...

seven days of creation equaling 7,000 years is actually one of the old notions the reformers objected to...i guess you only stand with the reformers part of the time...namely when they don't get in the way of your conspiracy rants...

and are you setting dates for the end time now? the bible says that is a no-no...

if the -united nations- is satan's attempt at world government...then we have nothing to worry about lol
Mark 13:
31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Tell me Rachel, when does the Bible say that Heaven and Earth shall pass away?

Revelation 20:

11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Revelation 21:

1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Now Rachel, what happens before the White Throne Judgement?

Revelation 20:

1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

So Rachel, when does Christ return to earth? Before Revelation Chapter 20, or after? Then what ever do you mean below?

"and are you setting dates for the end time now? the bible says that is a no-no..."

You still have no clue when any of this will actually take place even if you know the order. Will it be next week or month maybe 10 or 100 years from now. Thats her point is that you have no plausible clue when this wil all take place. SO nice try

11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

The beast we read of is the second beast, that arises after Rome receives her mortal wound. John Wesley stated that this beast had not yet arisen. This beast is believed by many to be the USA. Personally I agree with this view. The USA shall cause the entire world to worship Rome. The scripture I selected describes America perfectly. This is the first time in history where such a feat is truly possible.

Interesting article...thanks for referencing it Jullianna.

I'm wondering if our society's obsession with movies, first person shooter video games, and isolation due to internet/computer use ( me too ;) ) is leading us into very strange times.

I do wonder what all this is doing to our mental states?

Another question I have concerns gun laws...don't we have gun laws restricting the purchase of automatic weapons? Are they just not being enforced?

I wondered the exact same thing when the story first broke, Lucy. Desensitization.

And I wondered how long it would take for someone to say it wasn't his fault.

In my state a red flag will pop up if someone buys 3 packs of certain cold meds. Hopefully, someone, somewhere will be alerted when someone who is not on an LE/military tactical team of some type buys a full set of body armor, 4 weapons and more ammo than one person could easily carry.

Don't misunderstand. I have no problem with guns or the right to bear arms. I have a problem with the right to become a one man assault team.

Yes, it's very hard to understand how he could purchase all of this stuff without someone or some agency checking into it. Especially with all of our anti-terror legislation and procedures.

I read an article years ago written by a military person who raised warnings about first-person shooter games...he pointed out that the military used these games to train soldiers.

I think movies, and role-playing, have more of an affect on us than we realize.

I think that's true. To a degree, we see this online. People will abuse one another online, christians and non-christians, in ways they wouldn't dream of doing in person. I often wonder how long it takes this practice to affect their offline persona as well.

For the record, I'm just as curmudgeonly in person as I am online.
