When one goes to Church, should they fear that ex-thief sitting next to them? Should we maintain that fear towards that ex-adulterer? Fear in the Church!!!! Nay!!!!!!
You are right, we should forgive them, but that doesn't me we automatically hand over the teaching duties to them, much more the pulpit. This decision should come from the elders or leaders in the church in which base their decision on the person's words and actions, how they now live, and upon the discernment skills given to them through the Holy Spirit.

I would not be okay with a convicted child molester teaching my children in an unsupervised area. Ever. Why? Because we can never know the true condition of another person's heart. That's what I think. [/QUOTE]

I was just thinking... why should any parent EVER let ANYONE be teaching "our" children in an unsupervised area. I mean according do the bible... parents are responsible for instructing and raising children. I ca tell you that in my life time... I see unproven "believers" put into children's ministry positions. I notice when a new believer wants to serve, they get put in the childrens ministry... kids can't say... Hey mom/dad they person has bad theology. The bible is pretty clear about WHO gets to be an overseer but I hardly ever see that is the case with children's ministry... why does christiandom sacrifice the tender minds of children to those who are unproven and biblically unqualified??? Kinda like the title of this thread... says "what does the bible say"... but the answers are mostly opinions.

But what if he repented and he walks with God? Shall his past sins not be forgiven? Does God hold to memory his past?
By all means let him/her teach, but make sure they on a firm foundation, and I think this all what Tintin is trying to say...

I myself would probably have reservations if a former child molester was the teach of my 3 or 9 year old, unless someone else was there with him. I've seen in my church before where a few people needed to be watched because of their previous conduct. One guy was actually asked to keep his distance from children (not to cut him off completely) because he gravitated toward them and touched them and talked to them in non-appropriate ways. Needless to say we haven't seen him since.

Paul was a murderer, and Christ himself came to Paul and called Paul to ministry. Paul was a persecuter of Christians! yet paul preached. Many in the bible committed sins and God used them. Moses murdered and God used him too, to lead and set the isrealites free and look where we all are now due to it. We need to rid ourselves from all pride and arrogance as it damages the truth and our walk with the Lord... Humbling ourselves is the only way!!
That is why Paul said oh what a wretched man am i! Who will save me .. God Will!! He knew His past and He also said he was the worst of them all meaning sinners... yet Jesus chose Him right there on the road to Damascas to change His life and used forgiveness towards him with mercy, grace and love. But most of all, respect in love...

God used paul and trusted him to minister his word and Paul did a good job too... Where would we be without Paul? For much of the New Testament is written by him... All i can say is if God trusted someone who sinned so much to use him to help others to find the Lord, then praise God for that means thier is hope for people like you and me... Amen... If not. Then Jesus lied when he said what He does for one, He'll do for all for He doesnt play favorites...

Just a note.. almost every person God used in the bible greatly sinned.. and God on purposely used them anyway! Just to prove that its not them doing it, its HIM!
James 2: 9-11 [SUP]9 [/SUP]But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. [SUP]10 [/SUP]For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. [SUP]11 [/SUP]For he who said, “You shall not commit adultery,”[SUP][b][/SUP] also said, “You shall not murder.”[SUP][c][/SUP] If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

So all sins are equal in Gods eyes and should be dealt with accordingly... Brings a new prespective to it when you start to think about what we each have done huh? For then we are all in the same boat as each other.. WE ARE ALL SINNERS SAVED BY GRACE! We cant get to heaven not even if we have 1 sin in us for we are imperfect!! Jesus is our only answer! This is why grace is so important! :)
Paul and the LORD proved Paul to be worthy of an apostle, he had witnesses. Acts 9:7;
[SUP]7 [/SUP]And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice but seeing no one.
and
Ananias Baptizes Saul

[SUP]10 [/SUP]Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and to him the Lord said in a vision, “Ananias.”

And he said, “Here I am, Lord.”
[SUP]11 [/SUP]So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying. [SUP]12 [/SUP]And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.”

[SUP]13 [/SUP]Then Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. [SUP]14 [/SUP]And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.”
[SUP]15 [/SUP]But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. [SUP]16 [/SUP]For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.”

I would be interested to know if this was a real life question or a theoretical question.
bit of both. there was a person who got upset that they were told they weren't really qualified to work with kids for those reasons and tried to guilt others into thinking they were being unChristian for denying him.

I just wanted to see why someone people allowed the guy to do such a thing and mess with their mind in such a way.

good point though some have quoted scripture. like the one about the qualifications of an overseer or deacon and the ones about sexual immorality.

perhaps a summary of the scriptures used to point?

Great caution should be used. Nothing against my earthly father, who was a minister, but my dad let a man take charge of our youth group in which I attended (I'm sure this man wasn't truthful with my Dad up front, but perhaps my dad should have had more oversight). There where several occasions where my friend and I, got high (marijuana)with this man, who's last name happened to be Stone.
wow really? now I'm going to be paranoid and run my own background checks on the youth ministers of the church. its a good thing my kids are only 7 and 4 right now.

Homewardbound, I'm not sure why you're replying to my posts, they were addressed by others much earlier on, and it's all sorted out.

Lol, yah, but your background check may come up with nothing. People can hide things pretty well. But your sin will always find you out

This is why supervision is important in all cases whether or not a past record, whne this person tried to guilt the people and or if anyone tries to guilt someone else to get something then is a sign of evil to me just as when Christ said to add a promise to a yes answer comes from evil

Maybe just have your kids tell you what is going on in there and have others thatyou know are trustworthy as back up. I knopw of a child that went to church with us and had never been in church she was 11 and the teacher of that group scared the daylights out of her that God was going to zap her dead and this little girl did not need to hear that God is a tyranbt becausae he is not. We found this out from her telling us as we could see the fear in her. And this teacher was the Deacons wife. Which she got repremanded for this, and this little went on to understasnd the Love of God and to respond to this love to not focus on sin bercause that is what brings forth sin

I thought everyone who works with children and teenagers needs to have a police check these days? Is it different in other parts of the world? (I'm from Australia)

Just in your thoughts alone you are yourself convicted unless you have put to death oyur own carnal mind through belief in christ and he has matured you into the perfection of him the meat of the word. I never once said this man has to be a teacher unto students Children but I have seen where ones have gotten into this position and past the background checks with no convictions foir they were very clever as the carnal mind is in pretending as a lot of professed believers do and are none of Christs even though they do this in his name or that. I trust a confessed person that sonfesses what he has done or evern what he has thought easier that Hello Howard GOD loves you and so do I. I as Paul will not know them by thier vain philoshophy and enticing words, but will no them by thoer actions and power of love through the Holy Ghost. The love of God has gone out through the world but man does not want to give up his carnality or does but does not see how and is caught in trying to do this on his own and when makes mistakes he hides them in fear instead of this is what I have done and I need help
In God's love homwardbound
You see, the topic of the thread is weather a former child molester should be allowed to teach Sunday School and what scripture says on it. The tone of your post in reference to the topic imply that you are advocating for allowing such a thing to happen.

I see now this was not your intent, so our discussion is resolved.

Well this discounts the majority of professed believers,
I pray to God that the Church is not so far gone that Pauls basic requirements for decons is no longer possible...

I also beleive it is not that far gone. It is actually not very hard to find Christians who qualify in my area at least.
for all have become great actors as if they are righteous and do no evil are good to thier spouses and kids, but I (God) know what goes on behind closed doors hiding your sins puttin on your masks as you walk out the door as if you are somebody please I beg of you I love you confess your sins and be healed from them, you know who you are and i know who I was and have been redeemed and healed, the carnality miond has been put into the grave by Go9d the Father through trust in him, yet I do noit know what tommorrow will bring but there is enough carnality around me today so I willk therefore understand waht is meant by taking all thoughts captive to the obedience oif Christ.
Some do put on false acts. Such people need to be taken out of positions of authority and possible out of the Church itself.

I do not believe this is the norm in churches at all.
Will you make known who you are behind closed doors. For that is who one truly is. you know I can do all things well look good in front of others help others out in the open do all the mysteries and fool all the people, no matter what it is that I or anyonme does in the open is not the real you. So ,let us talk about the real you, what is ti that you do when you are all alone?
It's pointless to be any different. I am who I am, just as many other people are. Despite televisions constant affirmations to the contrary I don't believe most people actively live a double life.
Yes that is the real you and maybe it might be a mix of sin and no sin of some sort ususally I bet it is lust of the flesh and anger to our significant others when no one else is watching and therefore
Anger is not a sin, or else God has sinned many times :( Lust of the flesh wanting material goods you should not have, our culture is bad for that, but even then contented people do exist.
we have the right to ex-comm unicate a child molester. I remember Paul saying to do this about the Son wanting his Dad's wife in the 1 cor but in the 2 cor. he said restore this one forPaul understand it is God's love that teaches a man to say no to unrighteousness changing us from a worldly sorrow to a Godly one,
When does he say to restore those that where purged? A reference for this would be nice. He just says to purge those that did those things.

Even in Romans 1 and 2 it talks of you , me who are under the law you say donot do this or that and then as you read you, me are convicted for we either did or do the same as we udge we are judgedso judge nothing before the time
And sorry if anyone thinks I am off the subject this had to be said
Umm, What?
