The work of the Father is to BELIEVE in Jesus. Jesus also said with out Him we can do nothing, zip, zilch, nada,He implies we can do nothing to please God,we can't know God without Him,we can't love God without Him,we can't trust Him or Obey Him without Jesus. Not one single thing can we do on our own. We are utterly and totally helpless before Him.

The reason Jesus doesn't know them is they don't believe in Him. [/COLOR]
As Many as Received Him: The Mechanic of Salvation

Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Two questions.

  1. 1. What is this power that God gives those who receive Him?
    2. How does one receive Him that they may indeed be given this power?

Let's answer the latter question first and then we'll be able to move into the second and see how it all works.
In order to understand how to receive Jesus it is very important to understand repentance. Jesus clearly taught that one must repent otherwise they will most certainly perish.

Luk 13:3I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

John the Baptist and Jesus both taught repentance and that it was directly related to the remission of sins.

Mar_1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
Luk_24:47And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

It is important to understand that it is not the repentance itself that remits sins, what repentance does do though is fulfill one of the essential conditions which God has ordained for remission to take place. We read in Acts how repentance is tied to a genuine conversion by which the refreshing (anapsuxis – recovery of breath) can take place.

Act 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Repentance literally means a change of mind. Paul taught that it was godly sorrow which brings forth a genuine change of mind which, in turn, leads to salvation.

2Co 7:10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
2Co 7:11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

Godly sorrow produces a crisis of conviction in the heart of those experiencing it as they come to an understanding of what sin actually is, its consequences, and how offensive it is to a holy God. This crisis in the soul produces great fear and indignation over sin and its consequences. It also gives rise to a strong desire and zeal to clear oneself of all wrongdoing, to make amends and to then do what is right. It is through a genuine repentance that the hearts rebellion to God is purged leaving an individual teachable and willing to yield. It is akin to how a wild horse must be broken before it will yield to a rider.

This godly sorrow is evident in what Zacchaeus said to Jesus is Luke 19.

Luk 19:8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

The prodigal son is another good example of godly sorrow working repentance unto salvation, this occurred when he came to himself amongst the pigs...

Luk 15:17And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
Luk 15:18I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee,
Luk 15:19And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

The change of mind in the pig pen drove the prodigal son to take action. Thus the repentance produced a genuine conversion.

Luk 15:20And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
Luk 15:21And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

In doing this the son did not save himself, he simply fulfilled what was required in order that he receive mercy. The Father, seeing this take place, had mercy and forgave the son. . This principle is prevalent throughout Scripture.

Pro 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

Isa 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

The prodigal son clearly forsook his wicked ways and thoughts and then returned to his Father. In the parable the Father says that the son was dead but is now alive once again which harmonises with the refreshing or return of breath of Acts 3:19. The refreshing is the same as being born again from above.

Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Again, a genuine conversion (epistrephō -revert, about face) can only take place if there is a mind change behind it.
Act 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

It is for this reason that Paul would emphasise that one ought do works meet (suitable) for repentance. If there is no actual change in conduct then the repentance is most certainly not genuine. Paul wanted to ensure that people genuinely repented.

Act 26:20 But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

A person who goes through a genuine repentance will stop all their willful rebellion to God, this simply means they forsake all known sin. Not stopping some sins, not wanting to stop sinning, but actually stopping all known sin. An adulterous husband cannot be truly repentant for committing adultery if he will not forsake the illicit relationship. It is no different with God and spiritual adultery.

The Scriptures are clear that one must forsake or stop all known sin in order to receive forgiveness from God. God cannot and will not do a saving work in an individual who refuses to forsake their rebellion because they are simply unwilling to yield.

This is why James would write the following...

Jas 1:21Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
Jas 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

One cannot receive with meekness the implanted word unless they have first laid aside their rebellion. One cannot serve two masters. Light and darkness simply do not mix. Unfortunately most people in the church system believe they can coexist.

When rebellion has been laid aside a new believer can then, through a working faith, put into effect the grace of God.

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Grace in the greek is defined as follows...
charis -graciousness (as gratifying), of manner or act (abstract or concrete; literal, figurative or spiritual; especially the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life.)

Grace is the divine influence on our heart, graciously provided by God, by which our spirits are quickened back to life as we come into union with Christ. Again this is the same as the refreshing of Acts 3:19, being born again of John 3:3, being raised up with Christ of Romans 6:4 and Romans 8:11.

Eph 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

Act 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water andofthe Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Rom 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Col 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with himthrough the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

We then being quickened together with Christ by His grace become obedient workers together with Him walking after the Spirit and it is through this synergistic process that a purity of heart is wrought in a believer.

2Co 6:1 We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

Rom 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Rom 1:5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:

Tit 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Tit 2:12Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

1Pe 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

Gal 5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

Thus, with the abundance of scripture outlined above, it becomes very clear why Jesus said that one must be a doer of the word and not a hearer only. Grace leads us but we must follow, if we refuse to follow we will be lost. It is as simple as that.

This is why it is absolutely essential to walk a life of self denial with the old man crucified, not yielding to the flesh but rather yielding to the Spirit. It is not an optional.

Not to mention that the blood of Christ only cleanses someone if they are walking in the light (1Joh 1:7), in other words one can only enter into the inner sanctuary with a true heart and be cleansed (Heb 10:22) and therefore be reconciled to God . This is the aspect by which we are a living sacrifice.

Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

By presenting our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God we prove the good and perfect will of God through the inner transformation that takes place through the renewing of our mind.

Thus we can then be a doer of the Father's will and enter the kingdom.

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

If we through the power of the Spirit put to death the deeds of the body (the passions and desires of the old man) we are indeed led by the Spirit and are a son of God.

Rom 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Which leads our study in a full circle back to John 1:12.

Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Romans 2
1 Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.

2
And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things.

3 But do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God?

4
Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?

James 1
16
Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.

17
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

18
In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

where shall we find repentance?
within ourselves? is that what God's Word says?

is repentance and the forsaking of sin the gift of God?
is it good? is it perfect?
does it come down from the Father?

what does the LOGOS say about it?

I find the prepositional phrases pretty striking. :)

Its by God's grace we are given a New heart, but God's grace is so much more than even that.

  1. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone boast.” (Ephesians 2:8)
[*]“… who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.” (2 Timothy 1:9)
[*]“And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.” (Romans 11:6)
[*]“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Romans 5:1-2)
[*]“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men …” (Titus 2:11)
[*]“But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they.” (Acts 15:11)
[*]“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:4-7)
[*]“… that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:7)
[*]“… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus …” (Romans 3:23-24)
[*]“For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17)
[*]“Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace …” (2 Thessalonians 2:16)
[*]“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence …” (Ephesians 1:7-8)
[*]“For if by the one man’s offense, many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.” (Romans 5:15)
[*]“… having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved.” (Ephesians 1:6)
[*]“But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 5:20)
[*]“I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.” (Galatians 2:21)

Grace in the greek is defined as follows...
charis -graciousness (as gratifying), of manner or act (abstract or concrete; literal, figurative or spiritual; especially the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life.)

just read the definition.

it is a manner or act of graciousness.( Done by God to the undeserving. )

the manner or act of graciousness can be God giving a person a new heart but Grace is the act itself. it is GOD being gracious.

what a silly definition. using the word gracious to define grace.

Here are other definitions of grace that do a better job of it:

  1. Unmerited favor, mercy, compassion
  2. Undeserved blessing, a free gift
  3. Gods loving mercy toward mankind
  4. Favor, graciousness, kindness, beauty, pleasantness
  5. God’s disposition to exercise goodwill toward His creatures
  6. Synonymous with the gospel of God’s gift of unmerited salvation in Jesus Christ
  7. Favor or kindness shown without regard to the worth or merit of the one who receives it and in spite of what that same person deserves
  8. Undeserved acceptance and love received from another, especially the characteristic attitude of God in providing salvation to sinners
  9. The gift of God as expressed in His actions of extending mercy, loving-kindness and salvation to people
  10. Unmerited divine assistance given man for his regeneration or sanctification
  11. The power and equipment for ministry

To be born again is an act of Grace, but God's grace is so much more.

Homward... Mercy is not a cloak for iniquity.

You error is in denying this...

Isa 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

You want to believe in mercy and forgiveness being granted without having to forsake rebellion. You don't believe the Bible and you can quote mercy verses all day long but you will not find a single one which teaches that God grants an ongoing state of forgiveness for an individual who persists in rebellion. The rebellion ceases otherwise there is no forgiveness. Grace may abound but such abounding is just a demonstration of God's longsuffering for He wills none to perish but all to come to repentance.

God did not give Nineveh a reprieve because they merely confessed their sinfulness. God gave them a reprieve because they confessed their sin and stopped doing it.
Yuo believe what you want to believe Skinski but you do not have to live like a refugee!!!!! By the Mercy of God and the Frogiveness I have forsaken rebellion. how can one believe God and be rebellious?

Those who refuse to forsake their iniquity but rather continue to work it will be rejected at the judgement. There will be many who profess Jesus Christ at the judgement who refused to forsake their iniquity.

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

The warning by Jesus could not be any clearer.
Everyone here has been saying ot you that we believe and through this belief we are trusting God to showus the truth in leaving behind our failures, and that God is Faithful to do as we believe, frosaking our sin natures leaving them behind in the grave and what you say above is true and is of the Old Covenant no the new and none of us as I see are taking Advantage of the Grace of God we are rather growing in grace and oyu are condeming those that are seeking truth and trusting God to work out wherever we are wrong, andsince this is waht you believe and want togo by the Old Covenat and work out your own Salvtion with fear and tremblimg you go right ahead. since you desire to allthat is right see 1 Cor 13 and are you always Loving? I think not!!! Are you ever proud or boastful? I think so, you preach the Law of the Old Covenant as to full fill it and noone can that was the purpose of the Old Covenant Law was to show all people that they do not have the ability to obey it
Read Romans 1 and 2 trying to show you the conviction that the Law brings while it is true, just and Holy, but when it flows through the flesh, it kills the person of the flesh and God came to rebirth the fallen creation back to life life in God through God'sSon Jesus Chrst, and only God can do this
Still Love you Skinski and praying for you to recieve the Mercy of God ands belief in him as youcontinue to try and work out your own salvation. hERE IS YOUR LISCENCE TO SIN!!!!!! YOU GO NOW AND JUST SIN AWAY UNTIL YOUR HEART IS CONTENT, DO THE PORNOGRAPHY YOU HAVE DONE IN YOUR MIND THAT NO ONE ELSE SEES YOU UNDER ARE GRACE ARE FREE TO. YUES THIS INCLUDES ANGER AT YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS UNDER GRACE

  1. 1 Corinthians 6:12
[ Sexual Immorality ] “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.
1 Corinthians 6:11-13 (in Context) 1 Corinthians 6 (Whole Chapter) Other Translations
  2. 1 Corinthians 10:23[ The Believer’s Freedom ] “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive.
1 Corinthians 10:22-24 (in Context) 1 Corinthians 10 (Whole Chapter) Other Translations

You see Skinski when you are free to do anything then sin does not take occassion by the commandment, If I can be angry with no consquence which is true with God after the cross by the Son, there is no fun why do it the excitment of being sneaky is gone, sin is no longer any fun when you are free to do it, therefore why do it? You see Skinski being under Law you are under the curse of the Law and are trying so hard to stop it that you are yelling at others as in how can you all stop by Faith that can't be while the whole time you are convicted by it and cannot stop it. It is thorugh Faith in Christ that we stop it is by being free to disobey that we obey, we are responders to the truth of God and no longer iniators in being God ourselves or by trying to get God pleased for God is the creator we are the creation. When the fall happened Adam and Eve became Gods, and the rest born after them are born this way which includes us and we need to forsake our flesh and come to belief in God and be set free to do what is right through being free to dispobey we thus obey as Gods in the flesh we became initiators instead of responders to the creator of all. So God put the Law in place ot show us our inability to obeyand whenChrist came he showed the first chosen that thier was nothing they could do in and of themselves to make it to heaven that with man it is impossible to make to heaven by your efforts. The disciples even asked Jesus before the new covenant took place before the death well Jesus how is it possible for any of us to enter heaven? Jesus replied WITH MAN IT IS IMPOSSIBLE BUT WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE. therefore it is only by god and through god starting at the death dying to self efforts and asking for the new life in christ thus be born again by the operation of God alone through faith in God without a doubt. have a doubt you do not enter

"the demonic doctrine he is enslaved to will now cause him to put forth large cut in paste rhetoric about the "letter of the Law" and how you are teaching a license to sin...""

.....not quite as long as the others but still, predictable and totally NOT address the points made about

Christ's Imputed Righteousness to believers.

If you want to talk about STRAWMAN. here is one of YOUR creation Skinski "The false teachers teach that there is life in simply "trusting" in a "package" and deny "manifest purity.""

for that is a lie. show me once where I've ever taught such things?

I say there is Life eternal in Trusting in the finished work of Christ and that will cause believers to manifest the purity of HIs love for the sake of OTHERS and not self, because of God's love and acceptance that was given them when they First believe in CHRIST's finished work at the Cross. not their own works, not their own righteousness, but GOD's righteousness APART from the law that enables them to walk with the Spirit and be cleansed and obtain righteousness according to the law. not for their own sakes but to show the world God's love and be living epistles for Christ.
Absolutely Ariel you go girl absolutely we as believers had no righteousness none before we were saved and after either, but we do have righteousness it is not ours it is his and we are partakers of this being then there is no room for proudness or boastfullness our own rigghteousness that we thought we had through trying to obey the Law we found out to be filthy rags as Paul found out and forsook the Law so that he would win Christ, OH YES YES YES!!!!!!!

I mean there is still hope that God will deliver the man from his sins but there is no hope for or in the false gospel he teaches.

and that is what we pray will happen.

yes, Christ's righteousness is the only righteousness that allows us to stand before God, but that is not the only righteousness we are to have in our life. God will chasten and teach us wisdom from above, self control, perseverance so that we might obtain godliness in our lives and our actions.

It is simple.

He who believes is not condemned,

He who does not believe is condemned already,

You have it backwards my friend.. We do not get right with God first. then he lets us in. this would be law. He makes us right with him first (born again) then HE CHANGES OUR LIVES TO MAKE US RIGHTEOUS.

why do you want to continue to do the impossible. and make yourself right with God when you CAN"T.. You think God is going to take your good deeds and say come on in?? You would be just as wrong as the pharisees.
EG I think not so much to make us righteous as for us to participate in his righteouseness I pointed out whatyou said in Red and I am sure you did not mean it as it states or looks like. For remember we have come to the conclusion that we have no righteousness of our own and never will of our own, so now by belief we do have imputed righteousness that is not ours it is Christ's ans we are partakers in this which is what gets us to do justly, love MERCY and walk humbly we would not walk huimbly if any righteousness was of ourselves as Saul was before Paul

I disagree.... Just because we are under grace we do NOT have a license to sin for we are to live our lives as living epistles from God to the world. do those things are NOT a testimony of God's love and if you were lead by the Holy Spirit and have wisdom and self control you would NOT do them.

When the fall happened Adam and Eve became Gods, and the rest born after them are born this way which includes us and we need to forsake our flesh and come to belief in God and be set free to do what is right through being free to dispobey we thus obey as Gods in the flesh we became initiators instead of responders to the creator of all.
wait.. .What?!? did you just say that Adam and Eve were gods and that we are to obey as "gods in the flesh"?

ummm.... ...i'm going to go pray now...

kind of off topic but i'm kind of in shock....
