Double Fudge Sugar Free, no fat Chocolate Brownies

Well, there is fat in the walnuts.

1[SUP]1[/SUP]/[SUB]3[/SUB] C whole wheat flour
¼ t baking powder
1[SUP]2[/SUP]/[SUB]3[/SUB] C Splenda
½ C chopped nuts
½ C raisins
1 C powdered chocolate
1 C apple sauce
1½ t vanilla extract
2 eggs

Optional: berries. Good with blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries on top. (Raisins aren't needed then.) And the more the better. Also, if your into peppermint brownies, by all means chop some peppermint.

Preheat oven to 350. Grease 13 X 9-inch baking pan.
Mix dry ingredients in one bowl, and then wet ingredients in another. Then add wet into dry and stir until blended. Then spread in the pan.

Bake for 22 minutes.

We like large chunks, so we cut it into ten pieces. If you like normal six, you can cut them int 18 squares And yes, some can be freeze.

Yes. Splenda looks like sugar. It taste like sugar. It measures like sugar, but it's a diabetics dream. lol (The only thing it doesn't do is caramelize like sugar.)

If you have no problems with sugar, you can use sugar instead of Splenda.

We most of us like choc brownies but when i first saw the title, i didnt take heed for there are countless recipes around, i thought. Today i peek to see what replaced the sugar in this... We had splenda at my parents' haus, but in my case we always used sugar except the occasional honey and stevia wc is a little expensive tho. First i thot 1 2/3 c splenda? when it registered in my mind it's splenda! and not just applesauce and raisins to sweeten it. Could it not have some ill effects as discussed by one entitled Sucralose’s (Splenda) Harms Vastly Underestimated...
I wish not to be a kj, ok but because i often reduced the sugar we used in most recipes, i am thinking might the sweetener not have some effect on sleep patterns/other? Oh, i was thinking of making a batch altho we have no applesauce.

IDK. I'm not a scientist, nor have I played one on TV. lol I do know our insomnia came along before Splenda even showed up though.

I see. Oh, but when i said there was splenda at my parents' i mean those small packets wc i thought were used just like the other sweeteners where u put much less by volume to get such taste or sweetness.. I cannot imagine those in larger packaging for these are imported items, wc although not always, are much more expensive here.
Its nice to look posted recipes, but honest, do u know many things others consider staple like chocolate chips, berries and dried fruit, even oats and lots of nuts--almonds! arent 'native' here so sometimes i just use a handful when a recipe calls for a cup or half!

Well, I've become very creative with recipes. (For instance, this started out as the recipe on the side of the Nestle's chocolate box, but I can't take oil, hubby can't take salt, and neither one of us can take sugar, so I substituted, until I got the measurements right.)

So, if I don't have walnuts in the house, I'll use peanuts. (I'm boycotting almonds because most of ours come from California, which is having a drought now because of their own stupidity, and almonds take enormous amounts of water to grow. One person boycotting won't change anything, but I'm weird like that. lol) If we had chia seeds in the house, I'd add them too. I like the little bit of crunch in the texture, so what is cheap and easy to get that's crunchy in the Philippines? If you can imagine it as tasty with a brownie, then try it and see if you like it.

And if the berries Americans take for granted aren't abundant where you live, what fruit is? I was looking for recipes to make fudge -- without sugar, salt, or grease -- and found one that uses bananas in roughly the same way I use apple sauce in this recipe. (Not supposed to taste it much, but works like another ingredient.) That got me thinking of making these brownies with bananas.

We grow passionflowers in our backyard, but not the tropical variety that sells in our grocery stores. Our variety tastes a bit like over-sweetened lemonade. If it didn't have seeds in the same way pomegranate has seeds, (have to spit out each seed), I'd use passionfruit in it.

I go with inexpensive ingredients, so the fruit is usually chosen when it's in season and local. It also has to make my mouth water combining that with chocolate. So start thinking in those terms, and I bet you can come up with a variety that works where you live.

Or, you could skip the nuts and fruit all together. They're still brownies.
