This is one of two favorite Christmas cookie recipes I have.

2 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp salt

1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup oil
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg

Regular sugar to roll balls in
Cinnamon red hots or other candies to decorate if you want to

Stir together first 6 ingredients. Combine remaining ingredients, mixing well. Add flour mixture to this and beat well. Form into balls, roll in sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.

NOTE: You can try to roll out and use a cookie cutter to cut into ginger bread man shapes. I haven't tried that yet, but I do have a special gingerbread man/woman cookie sheet mold that I use. These cookies are soft and chewy, and I always get requests for them around Christmas time!

Hi Owletta,

Are these like Ginger Snaps? I use to bake them all the time, but haven't made Ginger Snaps in quite some time. Yummy, I can smell the ginger wafting through my computer screen into my nostrils. :)

Thanks for sharing the recipe. I think I have everything. Do you have a
suggestion for substitutes on the oil? I try to use little fat in my recipes.

They do. I neither liked much spicy things as a child, but when i met cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cardamom... it was like poetry of scents and spices, without words-).
