Ariel,

you didn't say how long you would be gone, (1day---) if it's a bit longer, you will need the
iron kettle.

if it just a short treck, then don't ever forget= good water-a good source of protein-dried fruits,
they a lot lighter-and most of all, a way to ask for help if needed...:)

have fun little one, you deserve it...

Iron is too heavy, we have aluminum pots...just helping with food prep for the AT hike next year.

I can post what we had this year...will keep some of the same and add and take out some for the vegetarians and gluten free hikers who come...will be 5-7 days, 30-40 miles...haven't been decided yet.

It's really awesome, we have morning and evening devotions as a group.

You've got to try sargento balanced breaks. You should keep the cheese cold though. Yum!

Find a very basic cookie/ cracker recipe for think crackers that suits your requirements.
Bring the dry stuff and add water then you are going to make them.
Have the fire burn down to embers, heat a flat rock and put the "dough" onto it.

:D

I will try the cheese but not gonna work for backpacking, can't keep cold without extra weight.

Basics:

Peanutbutter, crackers, trail mix (raisins, nuts, dried fruit, granola crunchs, etc to taste), cheeses that don't need to stay cold (normally wrapped in wax)

We had a few meals and added the meat later is that our vegetarians could eat.

Example: mac& cheese & instant potatoes (meat was spam and summer sausages)

Ramen noodles

My husband and son liked the CousCous recipe that had freeze dried veggies, Italian spices, freeze dried chicken (which we could vacuum seal in a separate bag)

We can try the chicken Alfredo (uses evaporated milk)

Or the spicy chicken and rice ( just package chicken separately)

I was thinking maybe adapt a curry or stirfry recipe to use similar seasoning but dried or freeze dried veggies to cut down on weight?

Gatorade also was a must....

I just need help with the recipes and figure out how many ounces per person each meal will weigh after repackage...maybe test out a few.

Really need ideas for the gluten free folks...maybe a subsitute?

Okay so our local Wal-Mart has a gluten free aisle and probably all the other grocery stores do too...they had pasta made out of corn and rice...so I guess take out wheat?

do you have a vacuum sealer ? If not don't because their expensive on short notice I'm not sure how long they keep unrefrigerated if that does work make all the vegetarian and gluten free means you want seal them in those bags. I apologise I haven't had much sleep so prob not thinking clearly about the shelf life of vacuum sealers
