In some parts of West Africa, coconut water is sold in the streets. People drink it for its health benefits. Coconut milk however requires some work, at home I use it when I have to cook with it. Thanks for sharing.

I love coconut in fact I have 5 trees! I love to drink the water and a nice blend is coconut water and pineapple juice. We use coconut milk in our cooking here like in curries, in a local dish call callaloo ( a soup made with green leaves of a dasheen plant and we add ochroe (okra) pods to it with some seasonings ).

We grate dried coconut meat and make something call sugarcake, we also add it to a bread recipe called coconut sweetbread or to a cassava pone recipe.

When we grate the coconut meat we add water and make a coconut milk this can be used as I have mentioned before and also in ice cream.

Coconut oil is made from boiling the dried coconut I have not done this so cannot say how but I know the recipe for such is out there on the Internet :). The first extraction of the oil is used in cooking. The oil hots pretty fast.

The oil is also used for hair and skin. Even read an article on people in India using it to do something (can't remember the name right now) in which they take I think 1tsp or 1tbsp of coconut oil and gargle it first thing on a morning for 15 minutes.

The branches well I have made a blind thing for the fence for privacy. We also strip off the leaf of each stem and bundle it up to make a broom (no generally not in these times we use this but those from the country area know about it and may either buy it or make them).

Right now I have a dried coconut on top of my kitchen counter lol :D and I see a few coconuts on one of my trees.

The shake thing sounds nice and hmmm yes sprinkling some coconut flakes on salads or even desserts sounds like a good idea too.

I love eating coconut. Especially coconut cake. Delish! But I also put it in my hair as a moisturizer and use it on my skin to take scars away.

Mar,

thank you so much for 'reposting' this, my husband and i are recent converts
to this amazing product=(coconut oil - and we will definitely be making our own
'coconut butter' as we greatly enjoy making/eating many of the other
nut butters - the health benefits are numerous and the results are
immediately obvious, especially applying to the skin.
this is a product definitely worth researching for the health-conscious.
:)

just this morning hubby cooked our eggs in the coconut oil and they
were amazingly good.
