Can anyone recommend great dairy free recipes? Thanks :)

Google tells me:

Milk
Taste
Uses

Soy Milk

 • In general, soy milk is considered "hearty" among the non-dairy beverages, and is excellent when you are craving something thick and creamy.
 • The plain varieties have a faintly sweet and nutty flavor.
 • Taste and consistency vary widely among soy milk brands.

 • Soy milk can easily be substituted for cow's milk in all baking needs, over cereal, for pancakes and waffles, in smoothies, or straight from the glass.
 • The unsweetened varieties work equally well in savory dishes.
 • Soy milk does have a more pronounced flavor, so it may not be the top choice for delicate desserts and sauces.

Rice Milk

 • For many, rice milk has that "true milk flavor." It is one of the lightest, sweetest, and most refreshing of the dairy substitutes.

 • With its natural sweetness, rice milk is perfect in desserts and baked goods.
 • Its delicate texture also works well in curries as well as lighter cream soups and sauces.
 • Rice milk is best avoided in the broader savory foods arena.

Oat Milk

 • Oat milk is light in texture and has a very mild flavor with just a hint of sweetness. It substitutes very well for low-fat or fat-free milk.

 • Oat milk has been successfully trialed as a substitute for cow's milk in both sweet and savory dishes.
 • In addition to drinking it straight from the glass, oat milk is recommended for your morning cereal; smoothies; baked goods; curries; lighter cream soups and sauces; and mashed potatoes.

I also developed lactose intolerance in my early twenties...I can do cheese, butter, and yogurt for the most part but consuming straight up regular milk guarantees that I will be barfing within 24 hours.

This isn't a recipe, but I use Lactaid as a substitute for regular milk, usually in my coffee or tea.

Anytime! The taste isn't any different...it's 100% milk but the lactose is broken down for you so that you dont experience the uncomfortable symptoms and nausea. You can use it in drinks, cook with it, bake with it, but the website doesn't recommend freezing it.

Lactose intolerance is from not having enough of the lactase enzyme in your body to break down lactose sugar properly. The over the counter pills you mentioned earlier provide you with that enzyme to help you break down the lactose.

I have to avoid lactose and casein. I can do butter, but can't do milk or cheese, either. (Do you know how bad I miss pizza?? Like...alot.) I overall have a hard time digesting proteins properly. I have to take lots of enzymes and probiotics. But definitely give your body time to heal. I'd also recommend cutting out gluten, too, because for some odd reason casein and gluten are similar.

But I have lots of recipes (mainly dessert recipes because my sweet tooth can never pass up a good dessert recipe.) if you want any. :D

I use almond milk for a lot of pastries, but typically not straight from the glass (I also won't use it in family meals since Dad's severely allergic to nuts), unless it's dark chocolate.

So Delicious Dairy Free | Coconut Milk, Almond Milk and Soy Milk Based Beverages, Snacks and Desserts This is my go-to brand, along with Silk, for dairy-free stuff. Seriously, So Delicious' ice cream is AMAZING. So delicious also has coffee creamer! :)

If you're like me and love a good iced coffee (or coffee in general :D ) Almond Breeze has a wonderful Vanilla Iced Coffee. Silk has the better Mocha flavored, but I have to monitor my soymilk intake, since at one point in time I was becoming sensitive towards it, too. (In fact I might have to skip out on the morning iced coffee for a day because my mood has been a bit off. My mood plays a HUGE factor in indicating if I'm eating something I shouldn't.)

And with dairy free products, it's trial and error. Though I'm a picky person, so if I say something's good, it's probably pretty good. :D But I've bought products before like Daiya cheese, and I'd heard it's sooo good, and I thought "It couldn't hurt to try..." and my tastebuds are forever scarred from the awful taste.

For most meals, though, you should be able to continue on eating, you just gotta substitute. And when you go out to eat, if you can have wheat, watch out to make sure the breading on your meal doesn't contain milk. I don't know where you find those things out, unfortunately. I just end up completely avoiding anything with breading or wheat (I'm also sensitive to wheat/gluten. I can have some, but I don't dare have a lot).

Go Dairy Free - Dairy-Free Recipes, Substitutes, Reviews, and More This link has TONS of info, too. Lots of recipes, lots of product info, and they also do product reviews. It may take some time to learn about your new lifestyle, but in the end, it WILL be worth it. You'll feel SO MUCH better.
