I felt in love with this beautiful art since the moment I saw it!
"Mehndi is used in India and some arabic and asiatic countries to decorate the bride's body before the marriage."
When I read that I inmediately wanted to have some mehndi desings drawn in my body as a gift to my future husband, but as a christian woman I wanted to know the biblical view on the matter.
Since this is not part of my culture and I don't know much about this art, I would like to know what my christian brothers and sisters from India think about it.

-is it common to have mehndis in Indian weddings?
-is it right if I have mehndis for my wedding even if I'm not Indian?
-do Christian brides have mehndis too?

Answering your questions

-is it common to have mehndis in Indian weddings?

Yes, Mehendi - the decorative art is usually always done on an occasion of marriage. It's not just Hindus who do this but Muslims too.

-is it right if I have mehndis for my wedding even if I'm not Indian?

It no longer has any significance or meaning in modern times and many Indians do have this "henna art" done from time to time.

It's temporary and within a week it fades away, so seemingly harmless.

In many North Indian weddings, they have a 3 day ceremony, one of which is the Mehendi. In this, all the women who attend the marriage also get their hands decorated along with the bride. It doesn't matter if you are a non Indian.

-do Christian brides have mehndis too?

Not really. Christian weddings differ from Hindu weddings. They don't follow this Mehendi ritual.

However many Christian women have gotten their hands decorated with mehendi on occasions of weddings of other people.

Thanx!
I though that it may be a problem since it looks like a tatoo, but I've learned that it's temporal, so I guess is fine :)

I had mehndi done for my friends wedding while in Kolkata. She was a Christian who married a Hindu, so naturally she had he full on Indian wedding and we were spectators of weeklong craziness!

A 2014 thread. The OP is no longer active and the person that resurfaced it only did so to advertise.
