Hi, It is paradoxical to see obese Christians.
It shows lack of self-control in your dietery intake (self-control is the fruit of the Spirit).
What is your opinion, does it glorify God when Christians are obese/overweight?
(There are surely some who know this and are trying to lose weight but are unsuccessful).

Why do people obseess about the flesh ?
We are people of the spirit, housed in flesh.
The outer apperience is just a facade.

It is often forgotten that genetics/medical conditions play a HUGE role in our body size.

We are to glorify God in our body since our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19-20). Having a slim body does glorify God. Follow the Lord Jesus Christ's example. I have been obese my entire life :( it's my genes. But I also have been a Christian all my life and a born-again Christan since I was 13. I never looked at other people's appearance to know how much they love Christ.

I won't generalise that it's due to lack for self-control because for some it is genetics or illnesses like thyroid dysfunction, PCOS. Nonetheless, it's good to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

There are all sorts of reasons people are obese. We live in a culture where fattening foods are a virtual staple. We see continual commercials that push fattening, sugary food and drink. Some people have medical issues or just very slow metabolisms. Certainly, we should all seek to be healthy, but I think it's sick the way people pick on obese people. People that are overweight hate themselves for it. I think people worship looks in this country. Certainly, I don't believe we should let ourselves get fat because it's not good for us, but we also shouldn't judge others. We don't know their situation.

I sympathize with the obese but I think it is not right for a Christian. We may say 'genes', sometimes it's a 'not so good upbringing' actually maybe almost all the time it is a 'not so good upbringing' therefore hard to place blame solely on an individual. However the back has to stop somewhere. We will all give an account. It is quite hard/ if not impossible to prove or stand on the side of obesity if you go deep into the word of God/the bible.

It is important to mention that I was always skinny when younger and even now I'm just like normal weight but I like to think I'm not biased :)

Thread hasn't been used in three years. But food addiction is a serious issue. I struggle from it. Drugs and alcohol would have been my addiction if I didn't see the effects of it during childhood. Addiction is a main reason why people are obese and/or unhealthy. Some, yeah, just don't want to get help or active. But it's a lot harder (in my experience) to lose rather than gain.

Essentially tried to say everyone who is fat is fat because of their choices. You knew you couldn't get away with saying that, but it's clear that's basically what you meant. As a naturally thin person telling fat people they are only fat because their bad choices and not genetics, hormones, illness, etc... Yeah you actually sound very biased as well as clueless.
Truth is when you look at an overweight person you have no clue what the reason is. Nor is it really any of your business. For you to walk around condemning every overweight person you see (which you think they are all basically to blame) doesn't make you look enlightened. It makes you look like a judgmental jerk. Attitudes like yours never help anyone, and sometimes makes things worse.

Maybe sometimes.............

I eat way too much, myself. But, I have sat next to some rather beefy people in restaurants who have as much on their plates for that one, solitary meal as I eat for the entire day.......... and that is still more than either of us should consume in a day.

In December of 2014 I had weight loss surgery. I had a sleeve gastrectomy. I did this because I needed help. I was very heavy and in pain. I was also always hungry.

I knew before that surgery that I am a food addict. I went to support meetings and realized what I was doing to myself. Before they do the surgery insurance requires you to take a number of years. You must have a psychological evaluation, a sleep study, for sleep somewhat, a heart test, a stomach scope. You have to go to support group meetings. You must also lose some weight before the surgery.

I was bulemic in my twenties, I did get help for that, but I still and will probably always look in the mirror and see a fat girl. Even when I was a size 6 I thought I was fat. I have lost a lot of weight since the surgery, I'm not at my goal and I don't know when I will be. I will never regret having the surgery because it saved me from myself. I am no longer endlessly hungry and I see a nutritionist who helps me make the right choices. I don't dwell on my weight anymore and I don't fanatically exercise fanatically anymore. I take my day's one day at a time. Do I eat the wrong thing sometimes, yep. Do I make myself vomit anymore, nope. Do I look at other people's food especially those who are overweight and think, gosh, that's to much food, you shouldn't eat that? No I don't. I know the struggle, I do guide my kids to eat the right thing's, that's my job as a parent.

Being obese isn't fun, people who are obese don't wake up one day and say, boy I'd like to disobey God and be fat. Most of them struggle not to eat the bad stuff. You want to fat shame someone or tell them God says it's a sin, from experience I can tell you that person is beating themselves up more than you ever could.

None of us has ever seen you, but you seem right appealing in a Godly sort of way. Engaging. Ravishing, as it were. Beguiling. Bewitching if you know what I mean. Killer, cute, drop dead gorgeous.... easy on the eye. Foxy. Formally beauteous. Babebraham Lincoln.

This is what happens when I 'see' you...
