Hi everyone.

These are my views, but the problem in India is not the cows on the roads - it's these people. These silent spectators and bystanders.

I've seen too many news articles about people being harrassed by drivers, women getting attacked in ATMs, women getting eve teased , and I can only ask where were the people?

Crowds will gather and watch at times, but no one steps forward to help.

I am not saying this phenomenon happens only in India, but since I've been only here, my views are limited to this country. (but if it happens in any other country, I would want to know)

I understand the reasons why someone would not want to step forward and help someone over here too.

Bureaucratic tangles, police reports and questionings, court meetings - who would want to get embroiled in all that?

But as Christians, I don't think we can just stand and watch while another human being gets subjected to injustice and evil.
Didn't Jesus tell us the story about the Good Samaritan?

Maybe even just calling the police or a required helpline would be the thing to do in a situation.

But let's just not be silent spectators.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.... (Edmund Burke, India supporter)

As a young man I had the pleasure of working with people from many different countries. When I was about 24 years old I was a foreman with a crew of 8 men. One crew I had were immigrants from India, a mixture of older men and a few young men that were about the same age as I was. The older men spoke only a few words of English but the young men were fluent in English and as we worked together I learned much of their way of living in India and their culture that they had come from. I have shared this journey through life with many wonderful people be they groups of people, individuals, men, women and children. The stories and learning experiencesI have had are too numerous to mention.

I had an experience a few days ago when I walked into my local corner store and the lady who was at the till said to me that I will not be seeing her at the store next week. I asked her why and she said that the store was getting a new boss, an east Indian, and she would not work for "those kind of people" . I was upset with this and spent a few minutes voicing my displeasure with this kind of an attitude. I suppose what I am trying to say is that sometimes an individual has to step up and say or do what they believe is right as they see it.

Hi I understand what you're saying!
Thanks for posting.

It's really sad that people hold prejudices against each other. There are so many different cultures and different views, some that may not resonate with us.

Yet we have to remember that God created us all, and shows no partiality.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am glad that you were able to appreciate your crew and take the time and courage to stand up to this woman. That's just awesome.
I wish there were more people like that.

God bless you and much love.

*bump*

This thread was my first thread on cc :)

I just remembered it, seeing how I've always been passionate about not being violent towards others, and more often than not, how people could take that to mean being silent.

I believe in helping out others wherever injustice occurs and not being blind to the plight of others.

This is a nice walk down memory lane. ^_^
