The Holy Spirit in Acts

by cinder on June 24th, 2015 at 08:41 AM

So it didn’t take me a year this time to make the next entry. Here’s (some of) what the book of Acts has to reveal to us about the Holy Spirit.

It starts with Jesus telling his disciples / apostles that they will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes and then they will tell people about him throughout the entire world (Acts 1:8). I’m going to jump off here because one of the fascinating things I found in my reading was that whenever the Holy Spirit gave direction,

The Holy Spirit According to Jesus

by cinder on June 7th, 2015 at 06:13 AM

So after nearly a year of avoiding it; it’s time to continue this whole series about Charismatic teachings and experiences and “so what’s really from the Holy Spirit anyway”. So I’ll work at reading through some “Holy Spirit passages” to see what was said about the Holy Spirit and what the Holy Spirit did. We’re going to go straight to the source and start with the upper room discourse in John 14-16. What did Jesus himself say about the Holy Spirit?

What I learned from the Liturgicals

by cinder on April 17th, 2015 at 11:33 AM

So in my, well it’s starting to feel like my journey of rethinking faith (I’m sure about Jesus and the Bible and very little else in Christendom right now), this baptist raised turned charismatic girl had the chance to spend the past 5ish months (from Advent to Easter) attending a liturgical church. I’d been exposed to liturgy before but that was in my tradition is boring days. Being a bit older and I hope wiser, and having been encouraged to think of tradition as “the democracy

What the Bible says about divorce?

by cinder on February 21st, 2015 at 05:43 AM
This is a post I originally made in the forums in response to someone saying that marrying a divorced person is equal to adultery and therefore sinful and all divorced people should remain unmarried. Since this idea is spread a lot around various forums as what the Bible says, I decided to do a quick Bible search on the word divorce and here's some of what I found posted in the hopes that those facing or who have been through a divorce can have a better idea of what the Bible teaches.

Are we living a lie (or two or three)?

by cinder on October 15th, 2014 at 08:02 AM

So one of the things I’ve been thinking about a lot is God’s power and finding kind of the balance between the name it and claim it crowd who tell you if God doesn’t do what you ask him to do it’s because you don’t have enough faith, and the more conservative crowd who when they don’t get what they pray for say well it must not have been God’s will. Now I believe in God and his power to heal and restore lives, and I’ve known people who desperately needed to have God’s
