    Scofield Bible

Well, you said, "If people think any of the notes of any study bible is scripture they need more help than we can give them," or something, so you evidently imagine some people do, and for reasons of their own, presumably. Why write it if you think no one thinks this way?

Couldn't we help them by explaining to them how notes are not Scripture?

Yes. He may be right. Dispensationalism has been all the rage among many evangelicals for years. But that seems to be changing; he may not be, too.

    Scofield Bible

The problem was (or is) that people read Schofield’s notes thinking they had the same weight as the Bible. Schofield didn’t write a translation of the Bible; the Schofield Bible is the KJV with notes. (I’ve pushed past 70 by a few years and have known about this Bible for most of my life.)...

    Yes, Paul, completely agree.

Cessationism vs. continuationism...does it make any difference?

The irony is that continuationists are accused of being experience-oriented while their cessationist friends are more word-based. But where the cessationists experience no gifts operating in their churches, they conclude that they have ceased - and nimbly sidestep scripture that goes against...

Cessationism vs. continuationism...does it make any difference?

You make an interesting (and in all likelihood valid) point, Simona. What I really, really like in your contribution though, is your use of "avant la lettre". I just had to reply. I think we can say that your idiomatic use of the phrase - well, your use of it, idiomatic or not, really - has...

Cessationism vs. continuationism...does it make any difference?

Sorry about the delay, Wattie. I don't come here often and saw your reply just now. Good to hear back from you. The thing is, neither the unfolding of revelation (this side of heaven) nor the writing of scripture is what Paul is dealing with here; it's an idea that is being imposed on the...

Cessationism vs. continuationism...does it make any difference?

Hi Wattie, Does Paul write about the canon of scripture anywhere chapter 13 (or anywhere else in 1 Corinthians, for that matter) though? The idea is foreign to the context. Other than that, now that we have the completed scriptures, do you now “know fully, even as you are fully known “? The...

Less well-known Rapture verses. The case for the Rapture is compelling.

Well, you’re certainly entitled to your view.
