10 mins in middle of oven

Stir butter and sugar well
Add everything else
Knead dough and roll into "sausages"
Use your fingers to flatten them a bit
brush some egg (or milk or water) on top and put some sugar, and if desired: nuts) on top

Put in oven
When taking them out, immediately cut them into sticks (while they are still soft)
leave them for a bit to go cold and they will harden

thanks so much! :)

i do have vanilla sugar, but you lost me at bright syrup?
could i substitute maple syrup (which is plentiful here) or would that throw things off?

the only other thing i can think of is what we call 'simple syrup', which is sugar and water
cooked down to be thinker?

hum, well, in Norway we have a bright and a dark variety. If you use ordinary syrup that should be OK I guess.
I never tried making it with homemade syrup myself, but that might make it even more yummy

:) Well I had high hopes of getting all done, I did get the flour but my energy ran out.
I did get the cookies done, and the sweedish tea rings, but the pies, fudge and frosting the cookies will have to wait till tomorrow.
I cannot believe I have gone through 25 lbs of surgar in the last two days, most went to additional jam, as my oldest daughter wanted to make some for peole where she worked.
It was fun teaching her my recipes and secrets last night, one does need some one to keep the traditions going. :)
The pies will be made but I will freeze them along with the tea ring untill Christmas eve eve, as I wont be able to do anything then.
But hubby and daughter will make sure they are properly cooked. :)
Good grief, I almost forgot, I still have to make the huckleberry syrup too, there goes my day tomorrow. :)
I think it is time my hubby learned a little as well, who knows, he just might have some hidden talents. :)

Are you making anything special for christmas? :)
I love hearing about other food traditions. :)

God bless

My plan is working the candy part is done. I rolled so many balls of coconut and peanut butter yesterday that my right shoulder hurt last night. But the candy made for gifts is complete!!!! Yay!

Now today it is the wedding cookies and maybe some other type confection treat that I am going to concoct with left over candy ingredients.... There is no name for this concoction just know there will be a lot of calories in it as there will be coconut, nuts, eagle brand milk and chocolate drizzled over it probably with a graham cracker crust.....sounds sinful right? I got to do something with the left overs and I am NOT ROLLING ANY MORE BALLS....

Wedding cookies today.... yes it is 4:40 AM tourist said to me yesterday Do you ever rest? I 'll have to think about that.... it's a nice suggestion.... I keep telling everyone that I work on Heaven's time as no one sleeps there I am just getting started early down here on earth with that concept....lol

Once I finish today's plan then tomorrow it is make the Cherry pie to take to the Nichols family gathering Saturday and interact with my New Family!!!

O.K. I am cheating on the pie as I bought canned cherry filling but I am going to home make the crust and I am trying to figure out how to cut a nice looking Christmas tree to put on the top of the pie as I don't have a cookie cutter shaped like a tree. Hum.....will it be crooked or not? Guess I will find out tomorrow.....stay tuned..... The Christmas rush continues.....sleep who needs it?

I am getting tired just reading this and only got a single little cookie out of this ordeal. It was quite yummy though. It had powdered sugar on it. It was my breakfast. Wait. Not so fast she says...I will require Orange Juice.

Are you allowed to eat the beef, with the calf being only 5 hrs old?
That would be 5 hour Veal Stew as in baby calf....I said 5 hour beef stew - How long do I cook it Blond wants to know?

That all depends if your timers and clocks are made in China. For who knows how inaccurate these may be.
You could set one for 300 mins. New years may be here before the bell rings, if it rings at all.

5:04 AM and I have been up since 3 something AM - other wise known as Oh Dark 30......So today's plan of attack is go get blood test done....I know not a whole lot to do with cooking but if I want to enjoy what has been cooked got to go get that test before any food passes these lips...

Back to Christmas preparations.... Cherry pie is on the list of things to do today beside starting to clean up the dinning room so that we can actually eat a Christmas dinner in there around the table that will seat 6 and in hope that there will be 5 filling the seats and we could always fit in more if we need to.....

The Cherry pie however is for the Nichols family gathering tomorrow as well as most all of the other candy/cookies and confections made thus far.... Next week there is another pie or two to be made and a pineapple upside down cake as it is my favorite cake and my Birthday....I know...... making my own cake and have been doing it for years.... If you want something done right then ......you know the rest of the statement.... Wish I weren't such a control freak.... maybe tourist can help me get over that.....

I will be 60! I am shooting for sexy 60's as I am leaving Foxy 50's - Can I say that here? It is the What's Cooking thread.....lol I have all original white hairs an wrinkles that a 60 year old female can have and I have earned each one of them and not ashamed of them or the Blond/white hair either.....

What is it they say? As you get older you can get away with saying almost anything.....Blond is working on that principal.....or which ever one with correct spelling I should be using at this moment you pick....principal, principle....you know the one I mean..... What is up with the English language anyway? There, their, bear, bare, hair, hare, fair, fare....Blond says pick one and stick with it.....

Sleep maybe that is what I need?.......lol

Made all that candy and then what did I do but forget to take it with us to the family party....I was not too happy with myself for forgetting it. So as I stood waiting at the post office yesterday to overnight said candy to the various family members and handed over the cash to mail them overnight....COSTLY - all I can say is I won't be forgetting what I make for next years gathering....

I ran out of steam and the cherry pie did not get made for the Nichols party, but I took so much stuff even though I forgot the candy there was still so much there that the pie was not missed.

However, since I called a friend and he has agreed to come and do the cooking for Christmas day feast at our house.....That cherry pie might show up on the Christmas dinner table....time will tell and there is tomorrow to work with.....

I think everyone should have a dial a cook friend like I have. I have known Dan for about 20 years now he's like a big brother to me and he has been begging to do one of the holidays so after making candy and cookies etc....I have decided to go on strike and dialed a cook who has agreed to do it....lol Tourist is learning that his Blond has a bag full of tricks and I can power through almost anything....but when a trick or two I have up my sleeve works I call them in.....my new husband is either wondering or amazed at what and how I can get things done.....sometimes without doing them.....lol

One of my favorite sayings is - It's not what ya know but who ya know......I will be assistant chef at this gathering and let Dan be the head chef....... Or better yet I will be the hostess and let Dan cook the mostess.....

Dial a cook was a success and Christmas dinner good with way too much food. Think I might dial a cook next year or maybe let tourist do the main cooking and help him.....must check with him and see if this is agreeable.......or I could sit back and let the dial a cook and spouse take over the kitchen that would be interesting to watch. 363 days to ponder such a thing....lol

Darlene, Mark and i have friends who have 12 children (11 boys! lol).

and we and our 6 got together (often) with them and there were, like a hundred kids there...
so we'd share the food prep.
we went to their house once, and we were bringing salad, my (in?)famous pumpkin bread,
and dessert. (chocolate cake)

as you may imagine, getting the crew in the car, complete with diaper bags, etc,
was no small feat, and everyone carried something to the car...hopefully the baby
got included...

we put the food on top of the car, got the kids in and buckled up, and drove away.
a mile down the road we heard clunks and glass shattering...yeah...
we never actually placed said food items into the car...

i believe that's also some sort of social solecism? :)
just a bit of consolation, i hope.

Thanks for the story got a chuckle out of it.....My main worry about mailing the candy was it is Florida and how much melted chocolate arrived to the final destination? I hope it arrived o.k. We were having a warm spell.... I pray it was o.k. Have not heard any feedback so silence is golden.....I tried at least.....lol Just shows you how Blond I really am.....lol
