Made some really good banana bread with walnuts and it is so yummy......melted butter and warm......have not had or made it in a while....

10 tablespoons of butter plus 1 teaspoon - Yeah that's right unsalted BUTTER, everything is better with BUTTER.
2 Ripe mashed up bananas - Really ripe almost black skins....really black spotted skins.
1/2 cup Sour Cream - This helps make the bread really moist.....yum.
2 Large eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons Vanilla - Ah the flavor enhancer.
2 Cups cake flour or regular flour sifted - Always sift the flour gives it a very nice texture cake like.
3/4 Cup plus 2 Tablespoons of Sugar - Sweet is a very good thing.
1 teaspoon Baking soda - Got to get a rise outta the bread.
3/4 teaspoon Baking powder - Rise and shine on the bread.
1/2 teaspoon Salt - Have you ever made anything and forgot the salt....Yuck....Remember the salt.
1 Cup Chopped up Walnuts (or Pecans) - Use any nut of your choosing leave the human nuts out though.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Cream sugar and butter, add beaten eggs mix well, add vanilla, sour cream, bananas and mix well, set aside.
In sifter put flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt. Sift into wet ingredients a little at a time and mix well until all dry ingredients are added. Add chopped nuts mix well pour into greased bread pan.

Bake at 350 for 1 hour then insert knife if knife comes out clean it is done. Cool remove from pan and enjoy.

So tell this Blond What's Cooking in your life?

Firemen may also be included in this thread as while cooking in the kitchen it is possible a fire could break out. As we all know we may need someone to put the fire out.

The little light bulb in my oven is not functioning properly. It emits sparks on the pre-heat setting and makes these little popping sounds. It will be OK as long as it does not explode 'cause I don't like shards of broken glass in my banana bread. I will check out the light bulb thread for technical support. How do you turn off the smoke detector? It is making this very annoying sound.

I really don't have a clue. The timer on my stove don't work. I am hearing the popping noises again from the light bulb inside the stove. As to how long it will take for the stew, my suggestion is to allow for a lot of pre-heating time 'cause 5 hours is a long time. You may have to baste to keep it from dying out.

In the last few weeks I was hoping for a crisp north wind of the kind that we get that puts a deep chill into the bones in winter and blows for days on end driving the snow into drifts that seem to prefer to amass on my driveway. Instead we have had days of rain, which I don't mind, except in the autumn when all those leaves on all those trees on my place decide it's time to cease living and commence to falling. I was a dreamer once and still remember the blond like imaginations of nature in my youth - <a name="Ode to the West Wind">Ode to the West Wind . Well the north wind was also a dream and the leaves that I had envisioned blowing and scattering the to some distant horizon, instead, lay sodden upon the ground and I must work, work, work. Song of the Shirt | Academy of American Poets

I don't mind the work so much and in fact I have always enjoyed physical labor however I have a new dog`` - a year old border collie that has the boundless energy that I use to have but now I can only dream of. So I plod along raking and throwing. Little Mac my dog is pretty quick and I can only get a few rakes in before he returns with ball or Frisbee and plops it down at my feet - so it's a quick throw and rake. rake, rake.

My wife works, unlike myself who has abundant play time to spend with our new dog. Being the one in our household who does most of the cooking I dream of the well prepared and well presented repast. Tonight we shall have cabbage rolls. Okay maybe not cabbage rolls but something that tastes the same. Boiled cabbage layered in a pot with cooked rice, fried hamburger, tomato sauce and spices and placed in the oven to bake.

Got to go and play fetch- I mean rake.

Food Spoilage Table
THE GAG TEST
Anything that makes you gag is spoiled (except for leftovers
from what you cooked for yourself last night).

EGGS
When something starts pecking its way out of the shell, the
egg is probably past its prime.

MEAT
If opening the refrigerator door causes stray animals from
a three-block radius to congregate outside your house,
the meat is spoiled.

CANNED GOODS
Any canned goods that have become the size or shape of a
basketball should be disposed of. Carefully.

WINE
It should not taste like salad dressing.

POTATOES
Fresh potatoes do not have roots, branches, or dense,
leafy undergrowth.
GENERAL RULE OF THUMB:
Most food cannot be kept longer than the average life span
of a hamster. Keep a hamster in your refrigerator to gauge this.

Enjoy your new dog and what time did you say dinner was? It sounds really good and would love to join you and your wife and meet the new dog.

I loved stuff cabbages. There is not much snow to be found in southwestern Florida but I had plenty of that in the 8 years I lived in Maine and 27 years in Michigan. I am not saying that I enjoy the winter only that I understand all about it. The weather today is crisp but snow flurries are not in the forecast.

Winner of the most amusing post of the month award. I feel 'stressed' out. I am going to consume a healthy snack of sugar-free Jello and a can of Redi-Whip to take the edge off.
