Random: Do people in the UK turn their electricity entierly off while at work??? (Must get cold during winter :S)

I got this in an email after asking about costs

Gas and electricity : £30 in summer and may be £50 in winter ( remember that you will be working 8h/ day outside your house , so you will heat it just when you are back . )

My winters are nowhere near as cold as yours are and my heating bills can get pretty expensive!

Turns out they DO turn their electricity off. (I guess I will just have to save up money for a bill twice what they suggested then, I want my home to be warm!)

Well, turns out we have some odd heaters that heat up over night, and then release the heat during day. And people launder their clothes overnight, as the price is halved between, I think it was 11 and 7 or something....

The governor of this thread has been absent for a long while, so I think we can do whatever we want till she returns. I think I’ll become a singer and writer, since I enjoy singing and writing. I will build a big house in a farming community, like the one I was raised in.

The backyard is rather large, with an apple tree off to the right, rather than the plum tree I grew up with. On the far left corner is a barn for the horse and buggy.

On the inside of the house, just off to the right of the entrance, is a parlor, with a fireplace that can be used for special occasions, such as Christmas Eve. There’s a bookcase on each side of the fireplace, with whatever books you want to read.

We can spend an evening listening to phonograph records played on my brand-new Victrola.

You two are probably too young to appreciate the Caruso records I am listening to. For that matter, so am I.

We would use ours to store family history information (down below, where the phonograph records are supposed to go). Have you checked to see if there's a turntable on top?

By the way, I see our governor has returned. Do you have any orders for us to carry out, Astrid?

That sounds like a great idea. Someone will have teach me how to cook, of course. What if I heat up some frozen dinners? They usually taste pretty good.

So, everybody, I have a theological question for you: What is the most important thing of all? You tell me what you think, and then I'll tell you what I think, and we can compare.
