As a Christian it is SO difficult working in a secular workplace...where people continuously use God's name as a curse word or exclamation...where people gossip about others and things are said. It is even more difficult when you feel you are being done wrong but you know if you complain all Hell will break loose and there will be bad feeling. Not doing so means people will have got away with that wrong you feel has been done to you.

Today was such a day, I came away very annoyed and frustrated because people are trying to manipulate others which in turn affects me. I wanted to speak out but felt unable to. It's not easy living up to Jesus, turning the other cheek and keeping the peace and now I feel manipulated and used...wondering what tomorrow will bring...

I have spent over 40 years working for the man and I know that it is a jungle out there. There is always internal politics going on and those that would stab you in the back to get ahead. I always cringe when I hear God's name in vain but I would get insensitive to ordinary curse words as that seems to be part of the work vernacular. The way that I survive is that I consider God to be my employer and try to do my best on any given day. I agree, it is certainly a struggle trying to survive and it is very much a dog eat dog world.

Just do the best that you can and try not to take your anxiety and frustration from work home with you. It takes a brave person to go to work every day.

Give this problem to God - talk to Him about it and lay it at His feet and while you are talking to Him ask Him to bring another job to you that would be more pleasing to Him that He would be able to use you at it to bring someone to Him. A job that would make you feel that you were honoring Him at. Ask Him for this and then believe He will fulfill your request.

My recent example of a faith prayer is our going out to Las Vegas. It was a timeshare offer and we got a great deal on the hotel stay out there we just must give a few hours of our time to listen to a timeshare spiel then the cost is really low for the hotel visit at any rate the only timeshare spot to listen was on Saturday at noon so I went ahead and booked it and then requested that it be changed to Friday as I am a Seventh-Day-Adventist and really did not want to do this on the Sabbath.

Well I prayed and gave it to God and said Father you know I don't want to do this on Saturday as I would much rather be in church then than at that spiel. I believed He would change it for me and I was going to start calling the hotel everyday if I needed to and see if it could be changed. I forgot to call them on Monday, but on Tuesday I got a call from the hotel telling me that only one spot opened on Friday at noon and I could have it. Now I was not surprised by this news as I had asked My Heavenly Father to fix my problem as for me it was a big problem I did not want to break the Sabbath with secular sales pitch and God answered my prayer with a Yes and He fixed it.

So what I am saying is that if you lay your problems at His feet and it is in His will He will move mountains for you. If His answer would be no then maybe He wants you to shine at the job you are at and I would then pray who can I lead to You at the job that you are at. But if He doesn't want you there He will and is capable of helping you find another job that would make you happier and bring honor and glory to Him.....Praying for you... Darlene

I know this can be so difficult for you - but hang in there. You are the presence of Christ (his aroma) whether they know it or not. Don't let them put out your light.

Maybe you could make it more spiritual by telling the Lord that every time you hear a cuss word, you will treat it like God is calling you to pray for that person. On the other hand, would you get any work done?

I worked trucking and dock, heard it all the time, but I only expected it from the unregenerate...it's when the 'Christians' use such language that it becomes sort of dicey to deal with.

Agreed, the problem with being a Christian in a secular workplace is you are immediately at a disadvantage because you cannot retaliate to unreasonable behaviour.

I appreciate everyone's prayer and I also prayed. I had to come away letting it lie - so to speak, even though I feel I've been done wrong.

Regarding using God's name as a curse or exclamation word...it's easier to allow work colleagues to do it - even though I do cringe (not least because I used to be just like them!) but when your own parents use Jesus' name like that I seriously have a problem with it, although I'm completely aware it's part of their vocabulary and they don't even know what they are saying. I prayed about that too, tact is the order of the day I feel and I know that God will prompt me when He wants me to tackle this one and who knows where that might lead? Hopefully..

It's in the middle paragraph above, I had to walk away and let it lie psychomom. As a Christian I couldn't stir up a hornet's nest. I am frustrated about it though. It's in God's hands now.

That must be tough to deal with, MPW. :( I hear the "G D it" thrown around at my workplace from time to time as well. I don't like it, to say the least, but I have to remind myself that it's not a tacit thing thing to everyone that saying that sort of thing, especially when it's so commonplace in our modern vernacular, might offend someone. Some people simply don't get that.

Thank you psychomom and also wormwood, my mum says "Jesus Christ!!" as an exclamation and also as a curse word - I hate it. Yours is a great response! I'm beginning to feel prompted by the Holy Spirit to give a gentle response such as yours and I'm ready for the next time she says it. It has to be done with respect though, we are talking about my mum here. Thanks for the prayers, love MPW xxx
