How do I tell my friend that I don't like talking on the phone?I don't want to be rude, but I really don't like talking on the phone, and I don't want to hurt her feelings by telling her that I don't want to talk on the phone.

Just say it. It's not rude to inform someone that you don't prefer something. You aren't saying anything against her personally, and if her feelings are going to get hurt at all, then there's not really a way i can think of to prevent it. Just say you're this way with everyone and it's nothing personal against her. If she can't handle that you prefer to be a certain way, that's on her, not on you.

I've told a couple of my exes the same thing. One of them expressed the same feelings about it. Another told me to "deal with it" while we were on the phone.

You can express it without being rude. :) They may infer something rude from it (you never know), but if you clarify it's just a personal preference and they're still all farty about it, then that is on them.

Invite your friend to meet face to face somewhere
because you prefer this to talking on the phone.
After all its sort of like communicating here in CC,
so much gets lost in meaning and intent because
you can't read the person the way you do in face
to face conversation.

It's rude not to be honest with people.

Just tell her you prefer texting or talking on facebook or something. Tell her you are busy and that you just prefer to not be on the phone. I know how you feel, the phone is annoying and can be limiting. If you are chatting or texting, you could be doing other things at the same time.
I hope it goes well :)
