It would seem that Halal meat is now pretty much the norm here in the UK, brought about to appease the Muslim population and to Hell with the rest of us. Certainly many fast food outlets - too many to know all of them, restaurants and even some supermarkets. So what's to do? I have found myself buying meat from my usual supermarket which as far as I know hasn't yet publicised joining the Halal gauntlet. I avoid fast food outlets (although the rest of my non-Christian family don't seem too bothered) and always order a vegi dish from restaurants. However I am seriously considering becoming a vegetaian - this will be by no means an easy choice given the other two in the household will want to continue with a meat diet.

So what are your thoughts? Tips? Ideas? Has anyone else made this decision? Is Halal taking over in the US yet? I understand that as well as cruel slaughter methods the animal is also prayed over to Allah. I'm pretty sure that at some stage I have unwittingly eaten Halal. I'm guessing this wouldn't be considered a sin given I had no knowledge of it.

We used to buy our meat from a halal butcher because it was cheap (everything is great when it's cheap when you've just married and have no money lol) Then the butcher opened up another butcher not far from the original one, filled with Samsung LCD TVs displaying prices and I realised these guys are making a lot of money, including which I had given, which then they would probably use in offerings or whatever they have to spread the muslim faith. Once I told my wife my thoughts on this, we both agreed to not shop there any more.

I think it's time for Christians in Britain (sorry but I don't know the situation elsewhere) to consider if we are prepared to go back to the dark days before legislation was passed ensuring humane slaughter of animals for meat. Time to consider if we want to eat meat that has been prayed over to "Allah". Time for me to consider becoming a vegetarian I think. Shops/restaurants do not have to declare if their meat is Halal but almost all supermarkets/restaurants/fast food outlets stock at least some Halal. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2622830/Millions-eating-halal-food-without-knowing-How-big-brand-shops-restaurants-sell-ritually-slaughtered-meat-dont-label-it.html

America is a big country, and pork and meats are the most profitable products in many states, so they would be facing an uphill battle. It's not too prevalent here yet. I'm in the Pacific Northwest, though, so my experience may not be reflective of areas where they are much more impacting on the population.

I would become vegetarian to avoid supporting terrorism. I already don't eat soybean products because of Monsanto, and corn products for the same reason. (It's hard to resist!! FRITOS!!!) What we eat is hugely impacting on the world, when you think about it. Avoiding putting $.75 in a terrorists pocket is one less bullet they can buy. America, and the entire west, has made Isis, Hamas, Hezbollah, <insert terrorist group name here> rich by guzzling up oil and fossil fuels and lining their pockets. Now we face the consequences of funding insane people.

OK, update: I have found a butcher's shop selling locally produced meat - award winning butcher actually. I had a chat with the manageress and their meat is not Halal so I have started to get my meat from there. Wow what a revelation! Yes it's more expensive but you get what you pay for. I won't be buying my meat from supermarkets again!

Being Christian has zero to do with being Anti-Islam, Anti-Jew, Anti-Mormon or what have you.

It's just meat.

[h=1]Matthew 15:10-11King James Version (KJV)[/h]10 And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

I like meat! What can I say? I can't imagine not eating meat, so, if I ever get stuck in your situation I'd find a kosher butcher.

Now if I were normal, and could eat pork, like most people can, I'd definitely eat mostly pork. And then there is seafood. "Sea meat" (all manner f edibles from the sea) aren't Halaled at all, so more meat. Also, don't know about you guys, but, in the States, most of our lamb comes from New Zealand. No halal there yet, so one of the meat products the Muslims are pretending have to be prepared a certain way in your country can be imported from another country.

I do get what the Muslims are doing. They've been doing it to the UK longer than they've been doing it in the States, but it is happening. They're plan is to migrate to non Muslim lands until they are the majority, and then they plan to legally vote in Sharia Law. I really could care less if my meat is prepared by a religious belief. I do care when someone tries to force that belief on me though, so I wouldn't eat Halal meat for that reason.

But, as long as possible, I'd work at avoiding it before ever going all the way to vegetarianism. I like veggies, just not THAT much. (That and I also hate beans, I'm lactose intolerant, without a gall bladder, nuts are off the menu, and I'm a little intolerant to eggs, so can only eat them once every ten days, so no meat means not much protein in my case.)

There's a petition in your country about having Parliament look into how cruel it is to animals to stun first. Might want to check into that too.

From the cruelty view point Kosher meat is prepared exactly the same as Halal

God's word says to abstain from blood, things strangled, and meats offered to idols....Allah is an idol
Let's look at this in context:

1 Corinthians 10:
23“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. 24No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.

25Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, 26for, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”27If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience. 28But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, both for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience. 29I am referring to the other person’s conscience, not yours. For why is my freedom being judged by another’s conscience? 30If I take part in the meal with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of something I thank God for?

31So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 32Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God— 33even as I try to please everyone in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.

*

Eating halal meat is only wrong if someone you are with believes it is wrong and your eating it causes them to stumble.

I'm not aware of halal meat being sold anywhere outside of specialty markets in our neck of southern California, but I do know that there is far more hummus on the shelves than guacamole these days. Then again, our government actively stands in the way of any attempt to source our meats. In Minnesota most our meat comes from Wisconsin, and I don't think them good ol' boys are going to buy into the muslim thing any time soon.

I wouldn't buy it if I knew the money was going to jihadists. But again, are we able to know that for sure?

my take

I don't ask the store where the meat came from

if someone's at my house and they say they are concerned about halal meat, then I say 'I'll fry up some rice & beans

1 CORINTHIANS 10:25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience.
