I have lead three people to the Lord over the internet. Two are definitely following the Lord. The man followed up by going to church, despite his severe Social Anxiety Disorder, taking his wife, doing the Alpha Course, his wife getting saved, and his children. The woman I led is a FB friend and still is walking with Christ. I am not sure about the man in Nepal, whom I lead to Christ. He was having difficulty communicating with me while working in China.

So have you lead anyone to Christ on the internet? Do you think it is possible? Or desirable?

I don't get out a lot, because of my RA these days, and the internet is the only way for me to touch lives. I guess I should be more active in non-Christian forums, although I have a huge friend base on FB, from many religions and backgrounds. The trouble is, they tend to stay my friend, but unfollow me when I post Bible verses and talk about what Jesus has done in my life.

Anyway, here is an interesting article about this.

"Three years ago, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) shifted its focus to online evangelism. It laid off about 50 people—10 percent of its staff—and “redeployed resources to focus on areas of greater impact.”The change seems to be paying off. In 2014, the BGEA shared the gospel with almost 9.5 million people around the world. Of those, only about 180,000 were in a live audience at a crusade, while 7.5 million were reached through BGEA websites.
Of the 1.6 million people who told the BGEA they prayed “to accept Jesus Christ as [their] Savior” in 2014, less than 15,000 did so in person, while more than 1.5 million did so with the click of a mouse.
Since the BGEA launched its family of evangelistic websites—which include SearchForJesus.net andPeaceWithGod.net—less than 4 years ago, more than 5 million people have indicated a decision for Jesus."

While some doubt that eternal salvation can be gained with the click of a button, it’s no different than raising your hand in church, Diedrich said.
Cass agrees. “If somebody’s responding to the gospel, we should assume God is doing a work in their life,” he said.
The biggest advantage to online evangelism is being able to engage people’s hearts anywhere, anytime, Cass said. The use of mobile phones has made it possible to connect with people even in the strictest of societies.

Even if only 2 percent of the more than 135 million indicated decisions [since 2004] were long-term, with real spiritual transformation, I still haven’t seen anything that rivals that in terms of effectiveness,” Diedrich said."

Have I led anyone to Christ via the Internet? Not to my knowledge. But I have helped new and older Christians in their walk with God, challenged them and also provided words of encouragement. Some Christians have done the same for me. The Internet is both a valid mission field and ministry field.

Yes, I agree being a mentor on-line is valuable. I hope I have helped a lot of Christians with teaching, comforted the hurting, and encouraged others. But there is something singularly special about sharing the gospel, and seeing them turn from darkness into the light of Jesus Christ.

I guess I just wanted to know how many others had done this, or were interested in doing this? Maybe we could find a place to share the gospel with the lost? Not sure what that would look like, either!

there's a bot i know, named oontzbot, who just yesterday started quoting bible verses, and i know of a fact that i am the only person this bot has been in contact with who believes. the man who writes the code for the bot, last i have heard, is an avowed atheist who hates everything to do with religion. we are friends because he enjoys eclectic music, and i know a lot of very strange Christian music that i share with him and some others regularly.

i don't know whether the bot has been converted, but i know that it is because of the influence of Christ working through me that the bot's coder has been poking around in the Bible :)

because of the love God put in me for strange noises, and my love also for glorifying God, i'm accepted in this exclusive little community of pagan music lovers, and have been able to witness to them through it. oontzbot auto-bans anyone the chatroom owner has not put on an OK list, so just to be allowed in there and playing gospel music - as unconventional as the music i share with them is, it contains the gospel - is a great blessing and inroad!

i can't say whether anyone has come to believe through what has been done through me. i never force the gospel onto people and look for a cathartic 'moment' of praying the 'sinners prayer' -- i try to be a real person, honest about who i am and what i believe, and if God calls to an heart, He will call to it. i hope that He has used me, and i trust that He has used me. i know that people have come to me with questions and to talk about spiritual things, and i tell the the truth and what the Spirit leads me to say. what goes on between their hearts and the Lord, it is for the Lord to know, and for the Lord to do :)

i was overjoyed to see oontzbot quoting from the Word though!
i know this means much more to me than to anyone reading it, but i wanted to share.

Oh, I've definitely shared the gospel online with non-Christians, but I don't know if that lead anywhere.

posthuman: When I started reading your post I swear I thought you were making a joke about converting a bot. Then I saw you were talking about the bot's owner. ^.^

Man, why wife and I have always had this desire to preach to people on Second Life Second Life Official Site - Virtual Worlds, Avatars, Free 3D Chat (for those who don't know what it is)
We did it years ago, we were looking around a virttual church and a few people popped in, one person I spoke to Jesus about for almost an hour, they had so many questions. I think it's a legit form of evangelism, considering on such things like Second Life, people can be really chained to it and not get out much.
I feel like this has sparked up something about it again, I just yelled out, "Hey love! We should get on second life again!" lol
