I know it gets a little heated between the law and grace groups, but I think I would like to get to know some of the folks on the law side of things...so maybe this could be a thread where we could not bring up the issue and see if we have things in common? The fact is I like some of the people I debate, I like their zeal and passion to study, I think most are trying to live godly and sincere lives.... and of you law folks want to get to know a grace fellow? :)

yes some of the "law" people are pretty good folks. they have a zeal for God and a desire to be holy that is to be admired. so, such a thread would be nice, if possible.

All things are possible...:)

Jas 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.(KJV)

You know a lot of times I think we are saying the same thing we just use different words and then one side or the other starts pounding their point.... but we really are saying the same thing.....and when it looks like a tennis match back and forth I be gone......as at that point nobody is listening....

I bet the law and the grace people believe Jesus is their Savior and that we are saved by grace just like the Bible says. But I read all through my Bible where we are told to obey God even in New Testament....we have to at least submit our wills to God in order to obey that command.......Good luck with your thread....we're all just peeps wanting to love Jesus right?

We both read from the same Bible?

I'm sure they are happy to know that you approve! :D
Well maybe ...maybe not.. but we are called to seek peace with all in as much as its up to us...right?

1Th 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

1Jo 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

One thing about all this arguing of law vs. grace or works vs. grace whatever is that when everyone peels away their onion'esk layers of learned theology and actually tries to understand the point the other side is making, there is very much that both sides agree on. What is truly sad is all the name calling, condemnation and demeaning commentary that goes on. No Christian should ever be involved in such as that, but the BDF here on CC is full of such, and God must hang His head in sorrow. Can't see Him being proud of what goes on in the BDF..............

Now, let me offer a tidbit just as Food for Thought. One thing I find amusing is that people who say it's GRACE ONLY, and NOTHING ELSE must be done........rail against someone who says, well, what about the Commandments of Jesus? They are attacked as "legalists" ............... oh the horror! :)

YET..........the very same folks who rail against the need to obey the Commandments of Jesus INSIST ON FOLLOWING TO THE LETTER EVERY COMMANDMENT OF THE APOSTLE PAUL.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Seriously.............read the threads on the Bible Discussion Forum..........water baptism, women preachers.......appointment of deacons/elders............and on and on...........they quote Paul to the letter and INSIST IT MUST BE DONE THIS WAY.

But the Commandments of Jesus? Yeah, not so much.............????????????

Anyway, I find this very amusing..............

Now, to be clear, we SHOULD heed the teachings of the Apostle Paul, but goodness, does that make us Paulists?

:)

it seems to me that most of the arguments come from here: are we saved and kept by obedience or do we obey because we are saved?? and like you said, most of them ( and sometimes me) is not paying attention to what is being said, but just pound the point.

We obey because our obedience is a "fruit" of our salvation......that is sanctification, God, through the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit prepares us unto all good works...........He prepares us for His purpose for us..........

But, now, again, that's just me...........so

 nice, we all get heated about this issue and I think the passion is good as long as it is controlled.

Respectful discussions are not in and of themselves evil.............actually, they are beneficial to all believers in my opinion.

1 Peter 3:8-13
8Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: 9Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
10For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
11Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
12For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
13And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

Ecclesiastes 4:9,10
9Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!
Take a breather Brother Paul :)
