WHen you're heading west, take a left in Minnesota, then another left in ohhhhhh say Arkasas, and drive about 1000 or so miles and you'll be close to my neck of the woods. I'd love to meet y'all though if you ever head to the south east. Be safe!!

Oh, usually most people think us a little strange because we pray at meals... wherever we are. (Very rare exceptions... usually when we feel it would serve no purpose but to make people think we are putting them down... in some of those cases we just look at one another, and know that we are thanking God.)

We meet a Universalist Unitarian couple that we have gotten to know at Hardee's every Sunday after church. They just sit and watch their plates while we pray. We keep it short. I still don't really know what they think God is, but two weeks ago, the woman consented to let my wife pray for her back pain, right there in the restaurant. The husband said, "If it works, I'll let you pray for my legs." We didn't push any explanation... just, basically, said, "OK."

They still think it is weird that I once told them that at our church, most people worship with their eyes closed, and pray with their eyes open. LOL Although I don't think they really care... their services sound like a Rotarian meeting. They relate that they often have people come in to talk about investing in the stock market, or about retirement strategies.

The thing about my wife is that we almost never have a conversation with anyone that does not soon turn to God, and I think she is resisting dealing with where "differences" can lead in that vein.
Well this Blond knows a lot about common ground and can stay on it....not the Blonds job to convince or convict that is Holy Spirits job....my job to love and entertain....they say sometimes you can entertain angels unaware....personally I think my wings have been clipped for a short period of time.....Tell you wife not to worry...I have lived with so many different people growing up I learned to get along with most of them....Now if she comes at me like a tazmainian devil I might go run and hide but I come in peace...How....part indian I am Cherokee....really watered down....something about an indian long ago in the family history...way back....But this Blond comes in peace.....

Even tourist and I don't argue we just go radio silent and don't talk for a while..... then the air waves come back and we talk not yell it out... has only happened a couple of times....very quiet when we fight....lol

seriously?? we used to live in Hyde Park!

moved to Dutchess county from 25 years in Columbia county...miss it very much,
though both Mark and i grew up 'upstate'...me in Saratoga Springs and Mark in a little
town so small it's not worth naming. haha

we live out toward Millbrook now...but once a couple more kids move out,
we'll head back upstate and majorly downsize the house we live in.

used to drive through NH to take the kids to the ocean in Maine...
so beautiful there. :)

The Word Hoosier

Like barnacles, a thick crust of speculation has gathered over the word "Hoosier" to explain the origin of Indiana's nickname. Popular theories, diligently and often sincerely advanced, form a rich, often amusing body of folklore. Those theories include: "Who's here?" as a question to unknown visitors or to the inhabitants of a country cabin; Hussar, from the fiery European mounted troops; "Huzzah!" proclaimed after victory in a fight; Husher, a brawny man, capable of stilling opponents; Hoosa, an Indian word for corn; Hoose, an English term for a disease of cattle which gives the animals a wild sort of look; and the evergreen "Who's ear?" asked while toeing a torn-off ear lying on the bar room floor the morning after a brawl.

The best evidence, however, suggests that "Hoosier" was a term of contempt and opprobrium common in the upland South and used to denote a rustic, a bumpkin, a countryman, a roughneck, a hick or an awkward, uncouth or unskilled fellow. Although the word's derogatory meaning has faded, it can still be heard in its original sense, albeit less frequently than its cousins "Cracker" and "Redneck."

CRAZY!!! I think all the smart people USED to live in Hyde Park (they escaped!). Millbrook is fantastic -- technically, we lived in Pleasant Valley, but our mail came from Hyde Park. I was the music director/worship leader at our church in Hyde Park -- Resurrection Bible Church. Where do you worship there?

We love it in New Hampshire -- yes, really beautiful -- we were at the ocean just today! Very cold, but beautiful in its steely grayness!

So Thursday or Friday I have the wild hair to get out on the road Monday and start this state trip.....and then the contractor calls me and says I can start on your shed in about a week and a half....Blond forgot she asked someone to fix the rotted out parts on the shed...so trip delay....

Mental note to Blond....check calendar to make sure no appointments for about three weeks after shed is fixed......responsibility stinks......I'm retired I should just be able to leave right???? Oh well......better luck next time....To be continued...
