Genesis says that Abraham came from Ur yes. Not sure what you mean by pre-Egypt. Abraham moved in around where Hebron was, hence Hebrew. Jacob was renamed Israel, hence Israelites. Judah was son of Israel, hence jews.

The word Hebrew actually means to cross over and Abraham was referred to as a Hebrew because he crossed over into the promise of God.
