I find that when I watch some of the Christian channels to here the word of God, I just keep finding the ones that say sow a seed of large amounts of money. When I was new to my faith I watched Peter Popoff (I think was his name) he was preaching that God loved me and that if I wanted to grow as a Christian I should call them and they would pray for me which I did, I gave them my details and they sent out leaflets along with requests for money so they could pray for me further, I sent off £20.00 first then they asked for more, I sent £50 next then they kept asking for more. I believe in tithing and offering but just felt as if I was being hoodwinked. What are your thoughts on sowing a seed with Christian Television Networks?

The nature of TV is visual and that's mainly what you are going to get...and usually with much fanfare.
Internet radio may have some better picks.

There are some bad TV preachers out there that are just doing it for the money, but not all of them are bad.
If they say something along the line that you have to send money or you truly don't believe, or that you are not saved if you don't give then don't believe them. As money does not by salvation nor does it have anything to do with salvation as their are many ways to give then just financially. And some can not give financial as they are in the poor or poverty side, yet they still have faith and according to the Lord they are blessed for keeping their faith going through those tough situations.

That being said there is nothing wrong with TV ministers selling books, DVD's, CD's that they have made or written with study material or help aides for the bible. Some will tell you this is wrong, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. What would be wrong is how they then use the money they receive, as if the use it just to edify and buy nice things for themselves then it is wrong. If they use the majority of it to help out others then it is not wrong.

I can not really tell you a good channel as they all have and show these money hungry preachers on them, but I can point you to one person to watch if you like prophecy teaching and that is Perry Stone. He does both word and prophecy teaching and is very good at it.

I don't know about Christian channels on TV, but there are a few good YouTube ones. If you're into science, history and theology "Creation Magazine Live" is very interesting.

One of my friends at our church is the Program Manager for Channel 22, and he has told me that even his own station will air preachers of just about any persuasion. Doctrine really doesn't seem to be a concern of theirs. They have good shows and not so good ones.

A tv/video brodcasting can be a tool for a church, a single minister, or an organization. I think you have to look at the person(s) doing the teaching/preaching on these platforms in order to establish if it is good or bad. Just like Jesus said, we can know a tree by its fruit, and by using the bible we can reveal if their saying and doing is in the line of the will of God. But I don't watch these channes any more; I use too when I was new in the faith, but I do watch the videos that proven godlike ministers produce from time to time and from whom there are a long line of proven good fruits. Many sunday services are also brodcasted on video and I find that a great ressource, especially on youtube I enjoy searching for inspirational teaching.

Your comments and good advice have been great fully received. I think I will stear clear from these channels as I don't get a good feeling when I here them asking for money every chance they get. I do watch some sermons on Youtube and have recently starting listening to the radio which really helps me get motivated in the mornings.

Podcasts are another alternative. If you have an Android or Apple phone, there's an app known as DailyBible that gives you access to a handful of them from various ministries/speakers. You can also download podcasts through your web browser on your smartphone or computer.

The whole 'giving and receive blessings' is nothing more than a tactic for you to invest more of your money towards something that may or may not be confirmed as to how it's well spent and what goes towards those making the business (being the income for those who created and advertise/preach for that ministry). Make sure to check and question before giving into things that don't confirm, especially television.

I try to stay away from television ministries and any prosperity/evangelical type of gospel subjects for this reason. It preys on the vulnerability of people who may be struggling in any area of their life and long for the promises they claim or show.

I can honestly say that other than a Canadian show back in the early 80's called "100 Huntley Street" I have never watched Christian TV and never regretted it.

I watch almost no TV at all, and don't regret that!

Now as far as the internet, WAY too much time wasted and regret it many days! LOL

Only two that I learn from and enjoy is Andrew Wommack and Quick Study. Both are also online as well as TV. I've listen to several in the past and now these are the only two I listen to. Andrew Wommack will even send teachings free.

Hi a1_mandy
I would say that the channel is not as important as recognizing biblical truth but the part you said about them asking for you to sow a seed meaning send us money is terrible as hard as people need their funds, one thing they will not tell you though is that GOD likes a cheerful giver and that the motive behind your gift is more important than your gift.

Its the alter that sanctifies the gold.

if you give because you want something and not because you want to help the kingdom then you have wasted your money.

I know this is an old thread but I'll answer anyway. I enjoy not so much TV show ministries as much as isolated videos I have researched to be of Scripture based teachings I can trust. I have enjoyed with people Andy Stanley's videos especially the one's that have helped them stay in a love relationship in marriages. That was very biblically, meaning practically relevant. But he has many that are good I think.
