Here are questions I get asked all the time and they tend to derail some topics lol.

So here is the Atheist One Stop Shop, so to speak. This isn't here to cause offence or with intent to upset anyone. They are just questions Ive been asked by many people over the years, both on the internet and out in the street.

1) Because your an atheist, does that mean you believe in Evolution or the Big Bang etc?

Being an atheist doesn't mean by default that they believe in Evolution or the Big Bang etc. Atheism is simply the position that we don't accept the God claim. Thats all it is. You can be an atheist and believe in the big bang, you can be an atheist and not believe it. You can believe the world was created by aliens or you can say it formed from debris from other planets. It really doesn't matter what the atheist believes, the atheist is about what the person rejects.. And the atheist rejects the God claim. Me personally, I don't know how it all began.

2) As an atheist, that must means you have a miserable life and have nothing to live for?

On the contrary. As an atheist Ive got everything to live for... Ive just got nothing to DIE for. We are only here for a very short time and we make the most of every day because we don't believe there is life after death. We believe in life before death.

3) If there is no God then there are no consequences.. What's stopping you doing whatever you like?

This links into the previous question and there are many answers. Empathy and putting yourself in others' shoes, respect for others and their belongings, consequences etc.. If I'm only here for a short time then why would I want to spend it in a jail cell? I don't want to be away from my loved ones. I don't want to lose my position in my job or The standing in my community etc. So as you can see there are many reasons why a non believer would not just do whatever they like.

4) What if I'm wrong?

What... Wrong about your particular God? What about the other few thousand that people believe in? What if your wrong about any of those?

Ive got no problem admitting I'm wrong about something. Facts and evidence ( or the lack thereof) determine my worldview.

5) Did some thing awful happen in your life to make you an atheist?

No. (This may differ for other people)

6) Why do you hate God?

I don't hate God, I just don't believe he is real. Not believing the Loch Ness Monster is real doesn't mean you hate the Loch Ness Monster.

7)Why don't you accept The Bible as evidence for a claim?

Because The Bible IS the claim.

Those are the main questions I get asked all the time. Obviously another atheists answer may differ slightly because atheism is not a strict set of beliefs.. Its simply the rejection of a particular claim.

I'd be happy to add to this as time goes on.

I think that by definition, a "Christian" is someone who isn't interested in atheism.

I think the only one here interested in atheism is you.

However, I think there are some atheist forums you could visit where the people are VERY interested in atheism. I'm sure you'd have a lovely time there.

You were interested enough to reply.

And so you know, something like this was actually suggested by a Christian on here not so long ago

Hey ColinCat, if Atheism (and Evolution) are true, how come Richard Dawkins hasn't evolved yet (he still acts like a Neanderthal Man!!!).

Just kidding. Apparently my sense of humor hasn't evolved yet either.

Carry on!!!

Thats why the athiest movement have decided to copy Christianity by setting up a church where they sing songs and have talks instead of sermons etc, they may feel good about it, but they will never emulate the electric atmosphere in a church of believers where the HOly SPirit is moving.

Yeah, your problem is you have no excuse for your unbelief. And one day you will be weeping and gnashing your teeth with the rest of the unbelievers. The sad part is, y'all DON'T have to suffer that. You have NO excuse for not believing in God.

Makes me wonder what these athiests are trying to do. Why are they so active and hostile in thier never ending quest to prove the one true God doesn't exist. Are they trying to really prove it to use or inwardly trying to prove it to themselves?

Eh, a lot of people look for outside verification for their own life choices.

Others feel as strongly about the lack of a God as we do about His existence. For them I suppose it's a moral issue, although I'd bet they're more on the agnostic side and just trying to prove to themselves one way or another that they've made the right choice.

Believe it or not I know some atheists who don't flaunt the fact that they are atheists. Some of them are genuinely nice people and I enjoy their company - we just don't go down the religion road when we talk, because unless their position changes, I'm wasting my breath.

But on the internet, it seems a lot of atheists are... quite militant, because they are the vocal minority, just like the ones who lobby incessantly to change courthouses etc.

And it got show down, which apparently also happened to you.

Proselytizing for atheism on a Christian chat site. Who would of seen that one coming, right?
