Is there a way to ignore particular threads so they won't show, like u can for people

Not a big issue and not difficult either. Just an easier way for me to scroll through the list to the threads I'm interested in and eliminating those I'm not, so when I scroll I don't have to keep hitting next page. I don't comment on every thread that interests me so going to my profile doesn't always help.
Pretty sure there is an Alert option on the Settings page which alerts you to anyone commenting on a thread you either authored or are commenting on. If you only view those Alerts that should do the trick.

Ignore as in omit them from showing up altogether? There's no way to do that, but you can peruse threads of yours and those on your friends list (created or those simply participated in) rather than skimming the forum in full. This is under "My Activity" in your profile page, and you can filter by threads you're active in, threads your friends/contacts are active in, or both.
