In light of the big interview with Bruce Jenner last Sunday, which I accidently saw, since it was after a hockey game and the TV was still on, here is a very good article on how these gender reassignments don't work, plus how to respond as Christians to transvestities and those who would seek to change from male to female or female to male.

Grow in Faith with Daily Christian Living Articles

When Johns Hopkins studied its sex-reassignment patients, it discovered that they were no better adjusted after their surgery than before, so the university ceased such operations. The physician who headed the study later told The New York Times: "My personal feeling is that surgery is not a proper treatment for a psychiatric disorder, and it's clear to me these patients have severe psychological problems that don't go away following surgery."
Dr. McHugh reports a recent study of sex-reassignment patients which found that their suicide mortality rose almost 20-fold above the comparable non-transgender population. He concludes: "'Sex change' is biologically impossible. People who undergo sex-reassignment surgery do not change from men to women or vice versa. Rather, they become feminized men or masculinized women. Claiming that this is a civil-rights matter and encouraging surgical intervention is in reality to collaborate with and promote a mental disorder."

Now to some theological facts.
One: none of us is the person we were created to be. "God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them" (Genesis 1:27). As fallen people, we have each distorted the image in which we were made, and feel a deep longing to fulfill our God-given identity and purpose.
Two: suffering people are desperate for hope. Sex-reassignment surgery and hormone treatments are drastic measures. When we are in pain, we will try whatever promises to help. We need compassion and community, not ridicule and rejection.
Three: separating the body from the soul heals neither. According to Dr. McHugh, changing the physical gender does not heal the psyche. That's because God made us in his image, as unified in diversity as our Three-In-One Lord. Where we are wounded most deeply, we most need the transforming power of the Spirit.
So, here's what the church should say to Bruce Jenner: God's hope for you isn't to become a woman, but to be the man you were created to be. God loves you and his Spirit longs to heal you and transform you into the image of Christ (Romans 8:29). As beggars helping beggars find bread, we share with you the healing grace we need as well.

Funny Sirk.
I will try to be serious.

I would walk up to Bruce, look him the eyes and say....

...." You're a man, dude, snap out of it.....its a bit late in the game to switch teams now. "

We pray for him and anyone else stuck in a confused state.

I wonder how much of his decision to do this is out of desire to be relevant.

Im being honest.
Who knows?

Strange lifestyle choices and fame go hand and hand.
Its their norm and almost to be expected.

It's sad, but very much their reality.

The church should only show him Christ. That's all we are to do with those in the world.

Agreed. The church just needs to tell people that Jesus loves them and wants to heal their hearts.

What a merciful message, Angela! :)

Every image I see of Bruce Jenner just breaks my heart. He has the saddest eyes.... I can't imagine what's going on in his head. If not for the grace and power of love in Jesus Christ, I'd be devastated for him.

I know God loves Mr. Jenner and is willing and able to heal him. I pray that for him in Jesus' name.

Oooooh dear Sirk! But remember,....that's why we are awesome! We ARE Christians! We live in a society where freaks and violence gets more air time than Jesus! We are rare,....we are Gods children! I'm VERY excited about it,...no matter if Bruce Jenner wears white Prada's after labor day or not! :)

Jenner is purportedly a Catholic? I'd wonder if that is true if this would be worthy of excommunication.

I'd say someone close to him should hand him a Bible with tabs on certain scriptures. Starting with:
Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Deuteronomy 22:5

“A woman shall not wear a man's garment, nor shall a man put on a woman's cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord your God.

1 Corinthians 6:9
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,
Bruce? Surgery, wigs and paint, don't make a man what he ain't.

I saw an interview with a male who's on the show, Orange is the New Black. (S)he said that calling a trans-woman a man is an act of violence.

That's how far afield of common sense the trans-afflicted community, as well as the homosexual, is hoping to take America if allowed.
The media leads the way. Had this been 20 years ago not only would this dialog not occur but a true journalist would have responded; No, that is not true. In fact, if one of the no-no's in addressing a trans-afflicted person is not to ask them if they are pre or post-op, and you are the sex you've cut yourself up to be, don't then be a hypocrite in your own community as a whole and hyphenate your chosen gender with the alert to all who hear; "Trans". (I.E. Transition. I.E. Transitioned female, Transitioned male)

But that's just too much common sense. Which as we know is terribly, terribly, not PC.

As one who deals with this issue also,I see way too many who are trying to seek their healing from human hands which more often then not WILL FAIL. It can do no else. At best all it is is an alteration BUT CAN NEVER be a healing. He is looking for peace and the power to over come this in THE WRONG PLACE. The only place we who are dealing with this will EVER have peace is in Christ and to allow Him to work in us. These things are allowed for God's glory and they NEVER EVER can be used as an excuse to do what we want to do. God has given us a plumb line in which we are to live.

And I too can say the same as Paul did

2 Corinthians 12

[SUP]7 [/SUP]And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. [SUP]8 [/SUP]Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. [SUP]9 [/SUP]And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. [SUP]10 [/SUP]Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

I don't think they would listen to someone they know well if there mind is already made up let alone listen to someone they don't know but one thing I am sure of is that people can tell when someone cares and people respond positively to love and love never fails.

another heart-breaker for sure, satan snaring one of our own
to parade before the whole world - just one more way to
try and make something un-holy acceptable.

this is an instance where our silent prayers will speak much louder
that our spoken words.
