I had an ex friend who always loved bringing up 9/11. ALWAYS!!!!! He talked about it constantly. I hated it. Yea, it was sad, but, to talk about it ALL THE TIME? That's not right. IMO I believe we should try harder to talk about positive anniversaries. Like a wedding, communion, etc. Not things like a terrorist attack on our country. I'm NOT going to celebrate an anniversary that killed 3000 people. Or, the Sandy Hook, Aurora movie theatre shooting, mall shootings, etc. In the end I'm not celebrating anniversaries where they glorify killing innocent people. Funerals are different. We are celebrating people's life. Do you guys get what I'm trying to say?

I think, in general, you're right about not "celebrating" the anniversaries of these type of events. When that happens, the bad guys win. We should never forget these tragedies, however, in an effort to never allow them to happen again.

I think that maybe teaching children, "This is what happened, this is why it is bad." is one thing. But bringing it up constantly is no good I think. Remembering it? Yeah, but always bringing it up in conversation is sorta pointless unless you're actively doing something to stop it from happening again.

I mean never celebrating AND forgetting them totally. Why do I say that? Because it will make the terrorists realize that they can AND will win. I'm at least not going to celebrate these kinds of "negative anniversaries" at all. Only positive anniversaries. That's only me.

I don't know what to say, other than, thank you for creating a thread topic I've never seen before on CC. That's quite talented!
