I was wondering if you guys can help by answering some questions:
1) What is the Amish life look like? Simple and very family oriented.
2) What are the languages Amish people speak? German & Pennsylvania Dutch...Is there certain words Amish people use among themselves? Jah, Mam, Dat.
3) How do Amish people view the world around them? English
4) Since Amish, people don’t go to college. What do they do if someone gets sick? Get a Doctor or go to one.
5) What do Amish do in the winter to keep warm? Wood burning stove
6) Can someone from the outside world join the Amish community? Yes, but must go through a proving time determined by Ordnung.
7) Is there certain cloth for men and women? Unknown
8) What kind jobs do they beside farming Blacksmith, harness repair, cabinet making/woodworking.
9) Are women allow to have a job? Before they get married - school teacher, house keeping, baby sitting, selling produce, baked goods, quilts hand crafted items. Most times after married they want them to stay home and take care of the house and children.
Modern Amish probably depend on the rules set forth by their Ordnung so may have more modern life styles than in the past as in Restaurants, using electricity in their businesses, phones etc. Possibly driving cars or owning tractors. etc.

Seriously, dude? You ask this on the Internet? Why get people to help you cheat when you actually have the whole Internet to do your own homework? Doubly seriously since you're asking on a Christian site and you're 25, so you have got to know "don't cheat" already.

The advantage of being 25 -- don't choose a class if you don't feel like doing the homework.

Maybe he was asking on a Christian site to avoid such harsh responses as that? Now, surely there was a more Christian way to remind him that it was his assignment to do and not ours

As a college student, I trust you know how to do research at your library. If not, ask a librarian: they are there to help you learn the fine art of research.

Asking a bunch of of random Christians what they know about the Amish community is like asking a bunch of Texans about BBQ -- you'll get a lot of opinion but few facts.

I've often wondered how empty campus libraries are now, considering just about everything can be found online. lol

And, wait? Texans aren't of one accord when it comes to a proper bar-b-que? Whoa! Thought they were.

i'm in graduate school, so i can answer that for you: they're actually pretty full. the wi-fi signal in the library is pretty strong, plus there is an abundance of comfortable chairs & couches, and a coffee shop.

anyone who thinks there are going to be a bunch of Amish on an internet forum hasn't really got the basics down yet, IMO.

my intuition is that i kinda don't expect the OP to be back, ever, so i guess i can go ahead and say how funny it is to me that it probably took twice as long to find a Christian forum, sign up, log in, create a thread and ask those questions as it would to just go to a search engine and look up all the answers.

Comfortable in a library AND a coffee shop? Yeesh! Next thing you'll be telling me is a school has air-conditioning and no need for a pencil sharpener on a window sill. lol

I used to get that kind of question about once an hour on Yahoo Answers. "Sure, like we're just waiting for someone to come along to do their homework for them. Not like we need a life right?" But I never ever expected someone to ask for help cheating on a Christian Site.

Then again -- comfortable seating in a library threw me too. lol

i wish they'd turn the A/C off haha -- it's noisy and too cold for me!

but yeah, the library has a lot of nice chairs, and there are usually a lot of people in there. not because of the books, mind you -- the stacks are still empty. but to use the chairs and internet signal while they play on their laptops.

i don't know about the pencil sharpeners. they are there, but i use pens instead, because i found penciled noted tend to fade & smear. and in art class, i don't trust pencil sharpeners - i whittle my pencils & charcoal with a pen-knife.

i've noticed a number of people who don't keep notebooks at all - they just type noted on their laptops instead. ??

I did think the old #2 pencil was a thing of the past. So was the bookshelf of encyclopedias every home with kids had when I was growing up. Probably replaced with a subscription online to Encyclopedia Britannica. I just have trouble imagining a household of kids not fighting over who gets to use the Smith-Corona based on which paper is due first.

I really did walk a mile to the bus stop when I was a kid... in the snow, down a mountain, (but I was living in my uncle's mansion at the time, so don't go picturing barefoot. That was my brother and only because he'd take off his shoes when he left the house. lol), ... and then back up on the way home, so I am officially equipped to do all the "young whippersnapper" stories. :D
