I promised myself a year without a pet the end of July it will be a year and I am thinking of getting a cat or dog but would like suggestions and some help.

If I get a cat it would be male only as females are too temperamental at least the ones I owned in the past were. If it is a dog I don't want a tiny one but small to medium male or female is o.k.

So suggestions please and feel free to post pictures and help the Blond & tourist out with finding and deciding on a pet. Many thanks.....Blond

Get a snake. They have had to live with a bum rap for thousands of years, and need friends.

O.K. Blond is going to be boring in this area....cat or dog suggestions please.... Since I am TERRIFIED of SNAKES the likelihood of that becoming my pet is zilch...nada, no way in hockey sticks..... There are plenty of them living outside the condo and so no barnyard animals will do either.....even though cute giraffes are out and so are penguins....

Help a Blond out here it will probably be the last animal I/we own as I'm not getting any younger....so help me figure out a nice cat or dog bred or mutt type of the domestic variety.... Thank you ever so kindly.....

And yes it is o.k. to be jokesters here too... but must post a picture to get away with it.....lol

We have a conure, been going 25 years and has outlasted 3 dogs, 3 other birds, a tortoise (we had to give him away), 2 hamsters and 4 wives (just kiddin on the wives). Our best was probably a Scotty Dog, great with kids and very personal.

I have a cat and they are adorable, but since you mentioned about you and tourist getting older and being the last pet you own, I would highly consider a dog because they literally a man's best friend and always be there for you no matter what and you never have to worry about a smelly litter box. They also are very protective and if you were to have an emergency like a possible fire or what not that dog would be trained to wake you up and get help sooner whereas a cat wouldn't do that.

FYI: You are not old in the least, but I admire you thinking of the future in this regard many people don't and they end up regretting the decision later on

We have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Myself, I prefer cats, they do good in the
barn for mice. They do stay inside 50% of the time. They are less trouble
than the dogs, less mess to clean-up.

The dogs are outside dogs, they have all the room they need. They are good
with helping round-up the cows. So, I guess it's what you really desire. They
both can be great companions.

They both get along, so no trouble there. The dogs do tear up more stuff
than the cats. Go with what your heart tells you, you can't go wrong.

Well, he is awfully cute:eek:. I would definitely want him just stuffed that is. I wouldn't want a real one that slithers. I have had a bad history with A snake. Never again
Yeah I don't understand how people want to have a snake as a pet. I never want to have something that could potentially kill me. My step brother has a few as pets and I can honestly say I'm glad I have never seen any of them. To each their own, though.

We had one of those things too...it was all food before people but still sad when she passed.
I had one too. He died of cancer after 12 years. I dug his grave. My dad gave the eulogy. There were tears but not mine. I kept those inside of me.

Said goodbye to my budder-buds cat after 14yrs. Still hurts. My best (only) friend. Irreplaceable, so please...Thank you, Jesus, tho, for allowing me to have him for a time. Wish I knew you, (and him) better, I would have handled the end better. I'm sorry, Jesus. I'm sorry, buds. Please forgive my self-centered sin.
