Over the years, many people tell me that Christians should not learn dancing (e.g. ballroom dance, salsa, etc.) as it is un-Christian. Married people who learn dancing will fall in love with their dance partner and cause them to take the step to divorce. Single people who learn dancing fall in love with their dance partner bringing them closer to non-Christians and walk out of the faith. In addition to that, these people also added on that dancing is a sexual act.

What do you think? My social circle is getting very small and I love to dance. I would very much be interested to learn salsa. Should I or should I not?

I really think it depends on the type of dancing. You just need to be on your guard and avoid any type of dancing that is overly sexual.

And as Willie pointed out, there are several places in the Bible where people danced in praise of God. There are Christian dance teams that do praise dance -- you could try to find one or start a group yourself.

Yes as santuzza said it would depend on the style of dance, but dance in itself is not wrong.

Psalm 149:3
Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.

2 Samuel 6:14
And David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

Psalms 30:11You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness

So, if I really wanna learn dancing, just focus on praise dance and not ballroom, salsa and the like?

Not a thing wrong with Ballroom. This is what you might think about avoiding.

There are at least three or four other dances that could have been done there, without trying to make it look like a seduction scene.

No you can do other forms of dancing besides just praise but remember whatever we do we do it for God, because if it wasn't for Him we would not be able to do them.

I was just showing how the bible supports dancing by those scriptures, but I would suggest to stay away from provocative or nasty styles of dancing. Ball room is perfectly fine !!!

Here is another thing to consider;

There are multiple forms of Christian music; gospel, Christian rap, Christian rock, Christian heavy metal, and so on.

Don't you think if God allow for us to have those different forms of music to praise Him, He would not want us to dance to it as well ???

Dancing by the bible does a number of things, it edify's, uplifts, helps one through morning, esteems, etc...........

One of my regrets in life is I couldn't salsa. Absolutely nothing wrong with dancing. The only two I'd advice you not to go for (at least in public) are pole dancing and a strip tease. Once married, add those two.

I discoed -- a lot. A whole lot. I'd start when the music started and ended about three minutes after it ended. One of my friends was dancing with me once, (he could salsa -- arrrgghhhh! lol) and laughed. He said I was the only one dancing who looked like I was enjoying myself. I was. Dancing is up there with chocolate and raspberries! That good! It is joy. It is hapiness. Nothing wrong with it. I may be the only person in the world willing to admit -- I discoed all night long!!!

T'ain't nothing wrong with dancing, except watching sourpusses giving us the
.

Easy solution, walk to the other side of the dance floor back to them and shake your groove thing.

If Salsa does not keep you from God. If Salsa does not cause you to sin or cause your brother or sister to stumble -- then I see nothing wrong with Salsa!

Colossians 3:23 (NIV)

23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,
